Don't own an 870, I have a Mossberg 590A1 and an FN.   Neither is ever not loaded unless being cleaned but might have to rack one just to enjoy that sweet sound..

Loaded with 2 #1 Bucks and then alternating with Hornaday Slugs.  Mossberg holds 8+1 and  FN is 7+1 - No Rookie Here !
