It's Tuesday again! In between insults we'll occasionally discuss cigars.  Join in and perhaps learn something along the way. Warning: don't proceed if you have thin skin but don't be afraid to post either... And welcome aboard!

December 27 is............ Fruitcake Day

Fruitcakes, we’ve all seen them in the movies or in grandma’s kitchen. The heavy and dark cake that looks like it went through seven stages of baking and sounds like a fist thumping against a wooden table when set down on a surface. Yet, there is a day made for it. That’s right, this day is called Fruitcake Day and it’s made for the celebration of the cake that we all seem to find synonymous with a brick.

History of Fruitcake Day

While none of us know the true creator of the fruitcake, many historians believe that fruitcakes originated from Rome, and one of the earliest recipes known comes from ancient Rome listing pomegranate seeds, pine nuts and raisins that were mixed into a barley mash. Then there are records from the Middle Ages documenting that they added honey, spices, and preserved fruits into the original mix. Starting in the 16th century, sugar from the American Colonies along with the discovery that high concentrations of the sugar could preserve fruits, ended up creating an enormous excess of candied fruits, thus resulting in making fruit cakes more affordable and popular in regions around the world.

Fruitcakes have an incredible shelf life, they can remain on the shelves for many, many years and still be edible and non-harmful to the human body. An example of this is in a 2003 episode of The Tonight Show, where Jay Leno sampled a piece of a fruitcake baked in 1878 which was kept as an heirloom by a family in Michigan. For years now, the fruitcake has been a joke in American culture, being ridiculed for its name and how it appears. A recurring example of this can be found in a variety of television shows and movies, where the fruitcake will fall on a person’s body and they will complain about it being as hard as a brick.

Fortunately our hosting was finished last Tuesday and we got everything all back to normal yesterday, other than the warden wanted to leave the Christmas Tree up until Saturday.  Did get the outside decorations taken care of yesterday too.

This time of year is difficult. Call me a scrooge but I can't wait until it's over. Still have a houseguest. And she wants to "fix" things around my place. You'd think that would be a good thing but almost everything she's touched was better off prior to her "helping" me out. Essentially creating more work for me. 2017 can't come fast enough as far as I'm concerned.

Run the houseguest(s) out of town and take over your own house, the Holiday's will be much more pleasant that way.

Fortunately, I had no houseguests. The warden went to Tucson to be with her family, so my sons and I have been bachin' it. Most of the celebrations were at my dad's house. I came down sick late afternoon Christmas, so did nothing but binge on Breaking Bad yesterday. Decided to go to work today. Still not healthy, but got bored.

Somebody on Facebook put up a Stetson Revenger, in box, for $50 with two extra bands, so I treated myself to that. Took advantage of the Uncle Lee deal and the MB3 deal, so my humidor is about stuffed. But I've resisted temptation of guns so far.

Got to go to the post office and ship gifts to the DIL that were too big to carry on the plane with her.   Warden got her a couple of items from the Magnolia Market and holy cow, she was so excited about "things from Waco"......... Just glad she liked them but I was surprised at how excited she was about things from Waco.
Chip and Joanna are all the rage this year.
So probably gone into the sunset next year.
Dunno. They may have some staying power.

Buffalo announced Tuesday that Ryan and his twin brother Rob (Bills assistant head coach) were relieved of their duties. Offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn was named the team's interim head coach.

"I spoke with Rex earlier today and we mutally agreed that the time to part ways is now. These decisions are never easy. I want to take this opportunity to thank Rex for all his efforts and wish him all the best moving forward," Bills owner Terry Pegula said in a statement Tuesday.

CARRIE FISHER DEAD IN LA

Of course, Princess Leia was her iconic role, but Carrie also starred in "The Blues Brothers," "When Harry Met Sally," "Postcards from the Edge" and many, many more.

She famously battled substance abuse throughout her life. In 2013, she was hospitalized for complications from bipolar disorder.

Carrie is survived by her daughter, Billie Lourde, her brother, Todd Fisher, and sisters Tricia and Joely Fisher. Billie made an appearance alongside her mom in 'The Force Awakens.'

Carrie was 60.

Speaking of Work Mayor, you thinking about getting a job anytime soon?
Thinking about it, yes. I have a couple of prospects. Gonna wait until the new year at this point, though.
Yeah, waste of time looking until about the 2nd or 3rd week of January.

Nope. Shouldn't have come in today. Regressing steadily. Waiting for the taxi to take me home.
see what happens when you get bored, & decide to go to work! ::)
Yeah, that was a real error in judgement.
No shit.
I think "no shit" would be a welcomed change of pace. Just sayin'.
Indeed.

This damn taxi driver doesn't shut up though.
Uber?
No, state government doesn't deal with Uber. Yellow Cab. This is a commie state.
But you're getting your company (tax payers) to pay for it, gotcha.
Taxpayers, yes. But I'm one too. And at least I tipped the driver.

There's no judgement here. I've seen the government spend money on far more frivolous things.
