I haven't been able to relax for the past week and a half due to, "It's that time of the year again..." Annual Health Insurance Enrollment.... This year the month premiums have completely eaten through my wife's Soc. Sec. and then some coming in at a total of right at $9,000 (just an extra $750 a month.) I've been looking over the various plans that I'm still offered from AT&T retirement, thinking there's got to be a better selection.
I called my doctors office and asked to talk to the person that does the billing. Do you know of which insurances seem to be the most popular, and may be cheaper...? Aaaaaa, Aaaaaa, why would I know that...? Well, you do have to deal with insurance payments all day, don't you...? Oh yes... but, but, but, it's up to the people to select their own insurance. Damn, they do nothing but deal with health insurance companies all day, and have no idea of what they are doing... Unbelievable...!
I called my enrollment benefit office, and they were a little helpful. But their answers always made you wonder if they really knew what they were talking about. If I have a $100,000 hospital bill, this plan will pay 90% right...? Oh yes, of course it will, (duh, duh) I think...?
Finally I call the actual insurance company help line (United Health.) I explain that a $9,000 policy ($750 a month), seemed pretty steep for what we were using it for. Four visits each, 8 total to the doctors office $145 x 8 = $1,160, plus our pills were mostly generic ($7 - $18 retail.) So I asked about one of the 5 insurance plans, Southwest SelectMed Option 1 for only $145.00 a month. Now that would be nice to save $600 a month...! My question was, "The total annual out-of-pocket maxiumn is $4,000 ($2,000 for each of us), what does that mean...?" Answer, "Ok, let's take your wife for example. She pays all of her deductibles and copayments and it reaches $2,000. After that the insurance pays 100%." Same for you, once you've paid all the copayments and have reached $2,000, you will receive 100% too.
Ok, let me get this straight. I can take this cheap $145 a month insurance policy, and once it hits $4,000 for the both of us, it pays 100%. So, $4,000 + ($145x12=) $1,740 for a total for both of us would be: $5,740. And if only one of us was sick, it could be as low as $3,740. Now this does not include our meds, but our meds only come to around $400 a year since they are all generic.
I asked, "Why would I take a $9,000 policy which pays everything, when I can take the cheaper policy that at the worst maxes out at $5,740....? I'd save on the min. $3,260 and possible as much as $5,260. The girl at the help desk said, "I always wondered that myself...!
I'm turning 65 next May, so if any of you have recently gone through the Medicare Part A, Part B, and other parts and have any good advice, please message me and let me know. I have studied the Medigap programs yet, but I think there's some thing fishy there too... (Don't hold me to this), but I was looking at one Medicare gap coverage insurance and it said something like, "$350 deductible for emergency room, $50 deductible for lab work, etc (x-rays and whatever). Then I looked at what Medicare part A covered, and it was 100%, and there were no deductibles for those things. So you think your paying for this extra coverage, but they're taking advantage that you didn't know these bill are already covered... ugh..!!!
Well, that's enough of that..!!!!

Morning Dad, long time no see! You been doing ok?
Hi, and thanks I've been doing fairly well. Just racking my brains over the insurance and such, with Medicare coming up in 7 months... And of course YouTube has me scared to death over Hillary and the Russians, and such.

My 4 year old grandson and I were laying on the bed watching cartoons in the bedroom. I fell asleep. My wife came in and said, "Are you asleep....?" My grandson leaned over and worked my chin like a ventriloquist dummy and said, "Yes mawma, I'm asleep...!"
My wife thought that was really funny....

Actually there are still a lot of good deals to be had they are just not in our usual easy places and not usually as apparent as we have become accustomed to prior to the FDA rape of the industry. Just like Fish said about the bid deals, you got to be patient and watch for the right deal to come along. Also, you might have to buy in larger quantities than we became accustomed to over the past 10 years.

I'm so glad Obama fixed the health insurance in this country.
I also have open enrollment this week. It gives me hot and cold fevers.
Yeah, he fixed it alright! Real Good he fixed it for you and Dad has a very typical story of the fix.
Trump conspiracy driving the prices up to benefit all the Republican Insurance stockholders.
Excuse Commie Dave he is practicing for his visit to the college campus where they can't even eat Mexican food because it insults the Mexicans.

Exactly, the big cheeses never lose in the deals while 5,200 mostly minimum wage and part-time employees have their lives and reputations destroyed.

The Cleveland Browns acknowledged Wednesday that the team has hired former Baylor coach Art Briles.
Browns coach Hue Jackson brought in Briles as a guest coach. Cleveland has four of Briles former players on the team _ quarterback Robert Griffin III, receivers Corey Coleman and Josh Gordon and offensive lineman Spencer Drango.
Briles was at practice Wednesday dressed in Browns’ coaching attire. Jackson said Briles will not be working for the team for an extended period of time/
Briles was fired from Baylor, May 26, after an independent review found that the football team believed itself to be above the rules when its players were faced with allegations of sexual assault.

Here's the SteveO report for those interested, if it hasn't already been posted.
He has Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and apparently has for a long time. They had to take him off blood thinners because they couldn't control his nose bleeding with them. But taking him off the blood thinners means he will continue having strokes, which have already damaged half his brain. The doctors say he won't survive a trip to LA where his family is, so Kim's going to put him in hospice in Vegas. She's called for all those who want to pay respects in person to do it now, because nobody knows how long he'll last.
Fuck.
This is a really bad week.
Morning, muchachos.

Those prognostications are always a crapshoot anyway. But that was the time it might take the Hodgkin's to kill him. The strokes are another story. His brain's getting carved up, and it's a race to see whether cancer or clots are the first to blow up a vital center. I'm hoping it'll be sooner rather than later, because I don't see any hope he's waking up from this.

Totally agree. Can't imagine what he's having to live with right now, if he's even aware of it, which I'm not sure he is. But you know it's torture for the family.

Sad note for LSU Fans.
LSU's beloved Mike the Tiger VI dies after battle with cancer
Mike VI was euthanized by his attending veterinarian David Baker, ending what may be the world's most famous case of a tiger battling cancer.
Mike was born on July 23, 2005 and came to LSU when he was two years old.
There is no clear timeline on when the new tiger will be identified, but Baker said Mike VI took about three months to find and bring to LSU.

11 years seems like a short life span for a Tiger.

I think that is on the short side some but seems like around 15 years is about the average.

Sure was thoughtful of them, hope my name is on their birthday list too.
New emails released by WikiLeaks in connection with its dump of John Podesta’s email server indicate that Qatar, an Islamist state in the Persian gulf, gave former President Bill Clinton a check for $1 million for his birthday
Speaking of birthdays, forgot to wish Chip a happy birthday yesterday. Hope someone sent him a $1M check.

No.
I'm gonna go look for one. Pretty sure I received one at CF this year. If so, I'll give a review tomorrow. Either way, Fish can eat shit.

Sounds like a wrapper that wants to be everything. A bit schizophrenic.

Good evening, Tex. Had to take off a little early on my penultimate day because the Mrs took the girls to the doctor's and I had to take the boys to flag football practice.

I absolutely did. Max was kicking ass and taking names today. It was really fun to watch. I think it's because his brother scored last weekend. They have a tournament this weekend and he wants to do well.

Fun to watch the little fellas play. Gets harder to watch when they reach the high school level because mostly you are just hoping they can get up off the ground after every play.

Very true. Although the worst collision I've seen thus far that required an ambulance was for a cheerleading accident. Two girls hit each other in the air while they were individually flipping.

@Fish: If you give a shit... Found a Diesel Rage Shorty and will be smoking it tomorrow afternoon.

Cheerleading definitely has its risks too.

No, rain and wind. Remnants of a typhoon off the Pacific. We're geographically protected from hurricanes, but this is threatening to be as close as it gets.

I'm 40 miles from the gates to the park, but only 20 from the park itself. So, about the same here. 38 degrees and pissing rain. Wind is gonna set to blowing soon, but it's coming from the north so not so bad. Here in Enumclaw, we don't care about the wind until it's coming from the east. That's when it comes screaming through Chinook pass, which functions like an epic Venturi. When that happens, trees start blowing over and it gets effin' cold.

It's a good night to be in. Got whiskey on the rocks, a recliner by the fire, and the warden's making spaghetti and sizzling up some peppers and onions. I'm fighting cold symptoms, but still feeling pretty good.

Donald Trump beshits himself badly, and all Hillary can manage is a 7 point lead. Since the error margin of any poll is 5% plus, she's gotten a 2 point bump from the Donald acting like a moron. This election is fukin' hilarious.
The Don should go on TV, drop Trou', and tell Hillary she's welcome to come grab his junk. I bet it'd trigger a damned landslide for him.
