Looks like FL State - Miami game is still on for Saturday

LSU - FL has been "postponed" after a total fiasco mostly on the part of FL trying to delay the game.  Game is likely to be cancelled and stricken from the records.  This will result in the loss of  $ Millions to both schools.

Georgia - SC has been postponed until Sunday afternoon

October 7 is … National Frappe Day

A hallmark of Greek coffee culture from the 1950s onwards, the humbly delicious frappe has earned a yearly celebration. The frappe is distinguished by being one of the few beverages improved by the use of instant coffee!

Supposed, the frappe was created by a tired Nestle sales representative at the Thessaloniki Trade Fair who was beset by caffeine cravings. It’s often said that creativity flourishes in the face of restraint, and so it was when this beleagured man took some instant coffee, cold water, and ice, and shook his way to an internationally enjoyed drink.

There’s a surprising amount of science behind the frappe’s froth. Spray-dried instant coffee, and its lower oil content are the key to creating long-lasting bubbles. Freeze-dried instant coffee won’t cut it. The next time you complain that you can’t get a good coffee anywhere in a country, you might just be right!

Over-hyped Matthew continues up the FL Atlantic Coastline with true wind speeds and tidal surges far less than being reported by weather forecasters.  Large numbers of people without electricity is the biggest issue.

Over-hype example:

Fox News anchor Shepard Smith is no stranger to extreme coverage of extreme weather. This time, however, he may have outdone even his coverage of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

During the course of warning Florida residents about the dangers of staying in their homes, Smith bluntly warned Florida residents that if the storm changed path, they and everyone they know might die.

SMITH: Daytona Beach, all the way up to Jacksonville.. this moves twenty miles to the west, and you and everyone you know are dead. All of you. Because you can't survive it. It's not possible, unless you're very, very lucky. And your kids die, too.

Just checked the data from a weather buoy 20 miles offshore of Cape Canaveral which would be in the eye of the storm and highest recorded wind speed has been 64 mph.

Watching the weather channel last night and no Jim Cantore getting rain-soaked and blown about on the beach as is is wont during these things.  They had some little guy out there instead, I guess to make it look worse, as he was less steady on his feet than big, bad Jim.

Today is Friday, Oct. 7, the 281st day of 2016. There are 85 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On Oct. 7, 1916, in the most lopsided victory in college football history, Georgia Tech defeated Cumberland University 222-0 in Atlanta.

On this date:

In 1765, the Stamp Act Congress convened in New York to draw up colonial grievances against England.

In 1849, author Edgar Allan Poe died in Baltimore at age 40.

In 1858, the fifth debate between Illinois senatorial candidates Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas took place in Galesburg.

In 1929, former Interior Secretary Albert B. Fall, one of the main figures of the Teapot Dome scandal, went on trial, charged with accepting a bribe from oil tycoon Edward L. Doheny. (Fall was found guilty and sentenced to a year in prison; he served nine months. Doheny was acquitted at his own trial of offering the bribe Fall was convicted of taking.)

In 1949, the Republic of East Germany was formed.

In 1954, Marian Anderson became the first black singer hired by the Metropolitan Opera Company in New York.

In 1960, Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kennedy and Republican opponent Richard Nixon held their second televised debate, this one in Washington D.C.

In 1979, Pope John Paul II concluded his week-long tour of the United States with a Mass on the Washington Mall.

In 1982, the Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice musical "Cats" opened on Broadway.

In 1985, Palestinian gunmen hijacked the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro (ah-KEE'-leh LOW'-roh) in the Mediterranean. (The hijackers killed Leon Klinghoffer, a Jewish-American tourist, before surrendering on Oct. 9.)

In 1991, University of Oklahoma law professor Anita Hill publicly accused Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas of making sexually inappropriate comments when she worked for him; Thomas denied Hill's allegations.

In 1996, Fox News Channel made its debut.

Ten years ago: Anna Politkovskaya, a journalist who'd chronicled Russian military abuses against civilians in Chechnya, was found shot to death in Moscow. (In 2014, a Russian court sentenced two men to life in prison and three others to terms ranging from 12 to 20 years for murdering Politkovskaya, but it remains unclear who ordered the killing.) The Bush family christened the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush, named after the 41st president, in Newport News, Virginia.

Five years ago: The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to three women: President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, Liberian activist Leymah Gbowee, and Tawakkul Karman, who began pushing for change in Yemen long before the Arab Spring. The Minnesota Lynx completed a near-perfect postseason by beating the Atlanta Dream 73-67 to complete a three-game sweep of the WNBA championship series.

One year ago: President Barack Obama apologized to Doctors Without Borders for the American air attack that killed 42 people at its hospital in Afghanistan, and said the U.S. would examine military procedures to look for better ways to prevent such incidents. The Congressional Budget Office estimated that the federal government ran a budget deficit of $435 billion in the just-completed budget year, the smallest shortfall since 2007. Tomas Lindahl of Sweden, American Paul Modrich and Turkish-American scientist Aziz Sanca won the Nobel Prize in chemistry for showing how cells repaired damaged DNA work that inspired the development of new cancer treatments.

Basic physics and geography make it pretty near impossible for a hurricane offshore in the Atlantic along the middle to north Florida coast to create a significant tidal surge in the northern Gulf of Mexico.  All hype there to begin with, locals hoping for some emergency relief funds.

Basic physics and geography make it pretty near impossible for a hurricane offshore in the Atlantic along the middle to north Florida coast to create a significant tidal surge in the northern Gulf of Mexico.  All hype there to begin with, locals hoping for some emergency relief funds.

George Orwell had a dream too.

Federal agencies spend north of $1 billion each year on public relations to influence the American people, according to a new government report.

Another $430 million goes toward the cost of employing thousands of public relations professionals at salaries averaging $90,000

Update from Steve O's wife Kimieko:

Steve was moved back to the Rehabilitation Hospital yesterday. We are starting over again. They are going to assess his abilities today. Then, he starts physical, occupational, and speech therapy tomorrow. He is a little down because all his progress was taken from him.
Plus, the new strokes left him worse off then before. The good news is I went to a stroke support group.I talked with a stroke survivor. His stroke was really bad too. He was able to get back the use of his arm, hand and leg. He said Steve can get his speech back as well. It just takes therapy and time. He reassured me that there is no time limit on your recovery.

Morning, muchachos.  Woke up with an eye problem this morning.  Just couldn't see going to work.  Think I'm going to go to Cabela's instead.
Good plan.  Looking down a few sights will fix you up in no time.
As long as it's his dominant eye.
I'm betting raz is ambioptictrous.
Do you think his wife knows?   :o    :-X
I was born this way.
And that's ok.

Because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and, doggone it, people like me.

Have an aunt and uncle in St. Augustine. They're on a cruise right now, hope their house isn't damaged too bad when they get back.

Many folks on cruises now are getting an extended vacation as all ships have diverted, and it will be at least another couple of days before they are given the OK to return to east coast port.

I hope you had a nice meal prior to that powerhouse.

I smoked a La Palina Classic on the walk to the train station today. I rushed it a bit but it was still very nice.
