Post by: CigarBanter on August 09, 2016, 12:00:23 AM
It's Tuesday again! In between insults we'll occasionally discuss cigars.  Join in and perhaps learn something along the way. Warning: don't proceed if you have thin skin but don't be afraid to post either... And welcome aboard!

Be very, very quiet.....  Tomorrow is trash day...  And I need to be very quiet while my wife sleeps, so I can collect all that crap she has been saving, place it into trash bags, and get it out to the curb and into the trash bin without waking her up...  I'm throwing away 3 big green trash bags full of her stuff...  Ought oh.... I hear her coughing in the bedroom, but she's not taking the time to check on me to see what I'm doing.... haha.    Geez, I haven't had this much fun since I got mad at her and threw her shoes away.  I thought she would miss her shoes, but she never did say anything....  :)

I found a large toy train that toddlers can sit on and scoot around on.  She normally keeps track of toys in the house.  I placed it in front of the trash bin so she can't see it from the house.  Now to see if it makes it into the trash before she catches it first....?

It's time to sneek back into bed.  I hope she doesn't notice the extra space in the spare bedroom...!  I've closed the door, so hopefully the trash will be picked up before she goes in there....  Trash pickup is around 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.  Good night everyone...!

Today is Tuesday, August 9, the 222nd day of 2016. There are 144 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On August 9, 1945, three days after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan, a U.S. B-29 Superfortress code-named Bockscar dropped a nuclear device ("Fat Man") over Nagasaki, killing an estimated 74,000 people.

On this date:

In 1842, the United States and Canada resolved a border dispute by signing the Webster-Ashburton Treaty.

In 1854, Henry David Thoreau's "Walden," which described Thoreau's experiences while living near Walden Pond in Massachusetts, was first published.

In 1902, Edward VII was crowned king of Britain following the death of his mother, Queen Victoria.

In 1934, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed an executive order nationalizing silver.

In 1936, Jesse Owens won his fourth gold medal at the Berlin Olympics as the United States took first place in the 400-meter relay.

In 1944, 258 African-American sailors based at Port Chicago, California, refused to load a munitions ship following a cargo vessel explosion that killed 320 men, many of them black. (Fifty of the sailors were convicted of mutiny, fined and imprisoned.)

In 1969, actress Sharon Tate and four other people were found brutally slain at Tate's Los Angeles home; cult leader Charles Manson and a group of his followers were later convicted of the crime.

In 1974, Vice President Gerald R. Ford became the nation's 38th chief executive as President Richard Nixon's resignation took effect.

In 1982, a federal judge in Washington ordered John W. Hinckley Jr., who'd been acquitted of shooting President Ronald Reagan and three others by reason of insanity, committed to a mental hospital.

In 1995, Jerry Garcia, lead singer of the Grateful Dead, died in Forest Knolls, California, of a heart attack eight days after turning 53.

In 2010, former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens, 86, the longest serving Republican in the U.S. Senate, was killed in a plane crash in the southwestern part of his state while on his way to a fishing trip (four others also died in the crash outside Dillingham).

In 2014, Michael Brown Jr., an unarmed 18-year-old black man, was shot to death by a police officer following an altercation in Ferguson, Missouri; Brown's death led to sometimes-violent protests in Ferguson and other U.S. cities.

Ten years ago: The White House said neither Israel nor Hezbollah should escalate their month-old war, as Israel decided to widen its ground invasion in southern Lebanon. Physicist James A. Van Allen, discoverer of the radiation belts surrounding the Earth that bear his name, died in Iowa City, Iowa, at age 91.

Five years ago: President Barack Obama announced new fuel efficiency standards for work trucks, buses and other heavy duty vehicles. In a surprise announcement, the Federal Reserve said it would likely keep its Fed funds rate at near zero through 2013 to help the ailing U.S. economy. Polygamist leader Warren Jeffs was sentenced in San Angelo, Texas, to life in prison for sexually assaulting one of his child brides, and received the maximum 20-year punishment for a separate child sex conviction.

One year ago: A year after the shooting that cast greater scrutiny on how police interacted with black communities, the father of slain 18-year-old Michael Brown led a march in Ferguson, Missouri, after a crowd of hundreds observed 4˝ minutes of silence. Frank Gifford, the Pro Football Hall of Famer who led the New York Giants to the 1956 NFL title and later teamed with Howard Cosell and Don Meredith in the "Monday Night Football" booth, died in Greenwich, Connecticut, at age 84.

Tim Tebow has given up on his NFL dream and is now setting his sights on becoming a Major League Baseball player, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

"Tim Tebow is transitioning from football to baseball," Schefter said on ESPN Radio. "He spent the last nine months honing his baseball skills, honing his outfield abilities ... He truly wants to pursue a career in baseball right now."

Tebow, who will turn 29 on August 14, did play baseball in high school. He was an All-State player and led his team to the semifinals of the Florida state tournament.

According to the report, Tebow will hold a workout "for all Major League Baseball teams" later this month

Lol, just got 4 new tires for one of my cars yesterday. Had a nail in one, and it couldn't be repaired. Needed new ones anyways, so had them replace them all. Also was making a grinding noise, which is what prompted me to take it in originally. They wanted to replace the rear brakes for $700. Told them to GFT.

It's the wardens car anyway, who needs brakes.
Lol, you're right, it is! Got a quote elsewhere for $260, think I'll take that one.
Hell yeah, she drove it without a back door why worry about brakes?
Different car. That one is long gone. Plus, it had a back door, it just didn't open. ;)
Some women are that way.
Hi-yo!

no. but it has pressure sensors built in which activate if they lose 4# of air. they take 45# and one was at 40#, put my compressor to it in the rain. all is good until I find the leak, probably a small nail.

Perla del Mar, originally a Cuban brand, literally means “Pearl of the Sea.” Legend has it that some of the earliest explorers who hit the shores of Cuba discovered a golden leaf, which they immediately named Perla del Mar. This historic brand is being reintroduced by J.C. Newman, the very same boutique factory that gave us premium blends like Brick House and El Baton.

Perla del Mar is a box-pressed Nicaraguan handmade. Dressed in a silky Ecuador Connecticut wrapper, it offers smooth sailing from the very first glance. Inside, a blend of all Nicaraguan long-fillers from three distinct growing regions merge in perfect harmony. Flavors are smooth and creamy, and they do wonders to please the palate from start to finish.

Perla del Mar received a well-deserved 90-rating noting: "Sweet woody notes, toast and hints of graham cracker make for a tasty smoke. The draw on this short, thick cigar is open and full, delivering substantial amounts of smoke."

Ah, a well-deserved 90 rating…. They're everywhere!  They're everywhere!  Enjoy Dean.  Oh, and the cigar too.
not a bad cigar but definately not worth the price point!
hi Mike.
I agree, generic pleasant...not worth a cost premium.  I've gotten them pretty cheap on the Devil every now and again.

Yeah, quite a few but I likes them.  Yep, upon Travellin Dave's strong review I got some HN's also.

Already got quite a few also but can't have to many stogies in the war against the FDA.  There will be no more new cigars introduced for at least 2-3 years if not forever and being as almost all of these top shelf 101's are being dumped and/or closed out then well worth stocking heavily at these prices.

An email from JR:
Introducing Dim Mak—the latest super-premium release from the company that brought you the enormously popular La Jugada Nunchuck and Chinese Finger Trap lines, MoyaRuiz.
Dim Mak gets its name from the mythical martial arts technique, which is said to cause delayed death, due to a single blow from the hand used only by grandmasters as a last resort when death becomes the only option. MoyaRuiz incorporates this idea as a harsh statement to the FDA about their overbearing tobacco regulations that will hamper the growth of our industry, while also coinciding with Cigar Dojo’s own Japanese influence due to the DOJONATION communities massive support for MoyaRuiz since the beginning.
MoyaRuiz proudly proclaims that Dim Mak is their most complex offering to date, as it features the company’s first use of fully aged proprietary Dominican tobaccos. The binder is from Nicaragua, and a gorgeous oily brown Habano wrapper grown in Ecuador completes this intense recipe. The result is a delicious medium to full bodied smoke with hearty notes of leather, coffee, earth, and a plethora of exotic spices. However, a written description does not do this stick full justice, as you will have to experience it yourself to appreciate its abundant complexity and refinement.

I'm in a large webex meeting at the moment. What a clusterfuck. People keep trying to share their own screens and interrupting the presenter.
And you are a technology based company, right?
We're not. We're an insurance company. Hence getting rid of IT because those services can be bought outside for less.
Guess I thought in this day and age you needed IT for manage all the actuarial s, all the form processing and management of accounts.

Business executives can't ever seem to get it figured out that it's better to have to pay more for good IT people than to pay for the fukups of people who don't really give a damn about your company.

Ha, not applying Cheapy Cheapo practices when it comes to hiring.  That is for cigars and bathroom remodeling projects.

If I needed an IT person he'd be at the top of my list.  Hell, throw in a dozen donuts every Monday morning (cheapy cheapo perk).  Unfortunately I'd be eating them, too.
