Today is Tuesday, July 12, the 194th day of 2016. There are 172 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On July 12, 1984, Democratic presidential candidate Walter F. Mondale announced his choice of U.S. Rep. Geraldine A. Ferraro of New York to be his running-mate; Ferraro was the first woman to run for vice president on a major-party ticket.

On this date:

In 1543, England's King Henry VIII married his sixth and last wife, Catherine Parr.

In 1862, during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln signed a bill authorizing the Army Medal of Honor.

In 1909, the House of Representatives joined the Senate in passing the 16th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, allowing for a federal income tax, and submitted it to the states. (It was declared ratified in February 1913.)

In 1948, the Democratic National Convention, which nominated President Harry S. Truman for a second term of office, opened in Philadelphia.

In 1957, President Dwight D. Eisenhower was flown by helicopter from the White House to a secret mountaintop location as part of a drill involving a mock nuclear attack on Washington.

In 1965, the Beach Boys single "California Girls" was released by Capitol Records.

In 1967, six days of race-related rioting erupted in Newark, New Jersey; the violence claimed 26 lives.

In 1975, the African island nation of San Tome and Principe became independent of Portugal.

In 1977, President Jimmy Carter defended Supreme Court limits on government payments for poor women's abortions, saying, "There are many things in life that are not fair."

In 1988, Democratic presidential candidate Michael S. Dukakis tapped Sen. Lloyd Bentsen of Texas as his running-mate.

In 1991, a Japanese professor (Hitoshi Igarashi) who had translated Salman Rushdie's "The Satanic Verses" was found stabbed to death, nine days after the novel's Italian translator was attacked in Milan.

In 1994, President Bill Clinton, visiting Germany, went to the eastern sector of Berlin, the first U.S. president to do so since Harry Truman.

Ten years ago: Hezbollah guerrillas kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and killed eight others in a cross-border raid. (The bodies of the kidnapped soldiers, Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, were returned to Israel in 2008 in exchange for five Lebanese militants.)

Five years ago: President Barack Obama awarded the Medal of Honor to Sgt. 1st Class Leroy Arthur Petry, who'd lost his right hand grabbing a live grenade to save his comrades in Afghanistan. Ahmed Wali Karzai, the powerful half-brother of President Hamid Karzai, was gunned down in his heavily fortified home by a close associate. A memorial service for former first lady Betty Ford in Palm Desert, California, was attended by Michelle Obama, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Rosalynn Carter and former President George W. Bush. Prince Fielder hit a three-run homer and Roy Halladay and his relief combined on a six-hitter to lead the NL over the AL 5-1 in the All-Star game.

One year ago: On the final day of his three-nation South American tour, Pope Francis put into practice his call for the world's poor and powerless to not be left on the margins of society by visiting a flood-prone slum in Paraguay and insisting that the Catholic Church be a place of welcome for all - sick and sinners especially. Defending champion Novak Djokovic (NOH'-vak JOH'-kuh-vich) outplayed Roger Federer in four sets, 7-6 (1), 6-7 (10), 6-4, 6-3, to win his third Wimbledon title and ninth Grand Slam championship. Olivia Jordan of Oklahoma was crowned Miss USA during the pageant in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

On that note I am all set to go to the Outer Banks the week of August 1st to get the design underway for my boat, it will be just about 1/2 of Pops Pride at +\- 18 feet.

Already had the LC46 and LC50.  Both fairly uniform flavor and strength throughout.  LC 50 a bit more in your face with flavor, prefer the somewhat more subtle and rich approach of the 46.  Of course OTT and two more sizes to go.

A razor blade could correct that. Or you could think of it like a rug with another team on it. I never understood why anyone would want to wipe their feet on "their" team. Makes more sense to me to get your rival team and stomp the shit out of it. Then again, you'd have to purchase said rival item... which ain't gonna happen.

No and no. And no screaming eagle medallions with live-to-ride mottos either. And no conchos.

The luggage is a Saddlemen TS3200DE. Looks like this:

did an online order for screening in a porch for the lady. building codes requires a permit so I ordered the materials when the application was submitted. just 2 screened walls. 8'x10' and 8'x12' with screen door. lumber, sill seal, paint, screen, door, trim, caulk, Tapcons, screws. in Florida you have to use 'approved' connection anchors and finding the 'approved' list for Tapcons and coated screws was a bitch. they needs construction details, itemized material list, etc. took longer to do the permit (3 days) than it will take to put the walls up (1 day).

My own tastes run closer to the rat-bike or bobber ethic than the heavy custom and goo-gaws. But, yeah. I try to keep things simple. Motorcycles are meant to be ridden. That means they get dirty and they get dinged and scratched.  Anyone who spends more time futzing with the bike than riding is a poseur, and I've come perilously close with all the futzing I've been doing. Time to ride.

Cusano 18 robusto and coffee here.

Morning, Deano. Whatcha gittin' from Home Depot... pallet of pavers?
did an online order for screening in a porch for the lady. building codes requires a permit so I ordered the materials when the application was submitted. just 2 screened walls.
That sex must be outta this world.
it is!
but I am being paid for this also. no senior citizen discounts either.

Here y'go, Steve. New windshield.

nice bike. too bad you had to put the other seat on though. guess it's cheaper than buying her a bike.
I'd buy her a bike in a heartbeat if she was remotely interested in riding her own.

Coupla years I'll get a Road King and turn this one into a hot-rod.
down here I see a lot of guys with what were nice bikes until they turn them into Rat Bikes, then they look like crap.

Time to ride.
got a buddy that bought his 9th and 10th bikes. a 2016 full dress Harley for his wife and an Indian. has quite a collection/investment, but they mostly sit in his shop.
Good friend of mine is the same way with cars.  Currently at 9.  Just built himself a second 3 car garage (with a lift) so the driveway/street doesn't look like a used car lot.
Thart's taking it to the next level, for sure.
Yea, and especially when you consider the cars...although he mostly sticks with GM.

Are you using Tapatalk? One of Tapatalk's idiosyncrasies is that if response from the server is slow, it gives up, assumes the site is down, and essentially makes you return to the forum selection list. Has to do with them being the data middleman.
Yes, Tapatalk. Plus the phone has crappy reception in my building. Plus I  can no longer access the site through the company's Internet.

That, and I hate the fact that the winner decides the home field advantage for the Series. I understand they looked dumb when it ended in a tie one year and they wanted to prevent that from happening again, but that's just about the stupidest thing in sports.

And now that I've ranted about that, time to pack it up. Seeing an advanced screening of the new Ghostbusters movie tonight as part of a promotion through work. Get to see if it's as bad as the whining manbabies think it will be, just because it has 4 female leads. Hazzuh!

I think the group would be good. It's the "let's remake everything" shit that goes on in place of an original thought that bothers me. What a money grab... "hey, this was successful in the Xx's. Let's do it again, but this time..."  ::)

That's the problem, that they are trying to remake it in first place.  The only sequel which I've ever seen which was better than the original was "Aliens".  And that is saying a lot, as "Alien" kicked ass.  Of course they couldn't stop there, which was too bad, as the subsequent versions were meh.

Sequels are one thing. Remaking the same exact movie again...

GhostBusters, Footloose, Point Break, RoboCop, Red Dawn, Total Recall, Carrie, etc,etc

Let's have the new SNL crew remake CaddyShack. That made some money.

Later Dave, enjoy the movie.  I have no problem with it being female leads, I just wish it wasn't a remake of the original.  Can't anyone write any original material any more?

No. It's cheaper to rip someone off or remake an existing movie from the film production catalog. Why take a chance? I mean, every "good" movie costs millions of dollars to make.  ::)

Does anyone still watch the Homerun Derby anymore? I'm tried of the Chris Berman schtick... BACK, back, back.
He sounds like Joe Pesci running out of breath to finish a sentence. Retire already! Just 'cause you have a lifetime contract doesn't mean you have to stay a lifetime! Sheesh
Can't stand him. I can barely tolerate him for NFL Countdown, no way I could handle all that back back back shit.
He is rather obnoxious but a fixture at the Home Run Derby.

Priceless. Just another reason he needs to hang it up.

Berman’s line after Stanton won was, “In the year we lost Muhammad Ali, down goes Frazier.”

In case you are somehow unaware, the “down goes Frazier” quote is from George Foreman’s match against Joe Frazier. It’s easily one of the most famous sports quotes of all-time, and an obvious way to go considering Todd Frazier got beat in the championship round.

Numbers don't lie but liars use numbers.   Texas kills more elderly drivers than any other state and we did not make the top 10 because of the way they use the numbers where as most just base states on the total killed.
There are also different classifications for "older drivers" but the most accepted is 70 not 65.

The Fatality Rate for those between 70 and 80 is lower than those under 30 but when they hit 80 they really need to quit driving!
