What's up cigar enthusiasts?! Any cigar deals on the various internet sites that are worth talking about? Join in this discussion and perhaps learn something along the way. Warning: don't proceed if you have thin skin but don't be afraid to post either... And welcome aboard!

Morning, muchachos. Still evening here. Gotta love the PNW summer nights, when darkness falls at 10pm. Just got back into the cigar room after making the rounds visiting the neighbors.

Today is Thursday, July 7, the 189th day of 2016. There are 177 days left in the year.
Today's Highlights in History:
On July 7, 1976, President and Mrs. Gerald R. Ford hosted a White House dinner for Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. The United States Military Academy at West Point included female cadets for the first time as 119 women joined the Class of 1980.
On this date:
In 1846, U.S. annexation of California was proclaimed at Monterey (mahn-tuh-RAY') after the surrender of a Mexican garrison.
In 1865, four people were hanged in Washington, D.C., for conspiring with John Wilkes Booth to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln: Lewis Powell (aka Lewis Payne), David Herold, George Atzerodt and Mary Surratt, the first woman to be executed by the U.S. federal government.
In 1898, the United States annexed Hawaii.
In 1919, the first Transcontinental Motor Convoy, in which a U.S. Army convoy of motorized vehicles crossed the United States, departed Washington, D.C. (The trip ended in San Francisco on Sept. 6, 1919.)
In 1937, the Second Sino-Japanese War erupted into full-scale conflict as Imperial Japanese forces attacked the Marco Polo Bridge in Beijing.
In 1946, Italian-born Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini was canonized as the first American saint by Pope Pius XII. Jimmy Carter, 21, married Rosalynn (ROH'-zuh-lihn) Smith, 18, in Plains, Georgia.
In 1948, six female U.S. Navy reservists became the first women to be sworn in to the regular Navy.
In 1954, Elvis Presley made his radio debut as Memphis, Tennessee, station WHBQ played his first recording for Sun Records, "That's All Right."
In 1969, Canada's House of Commons gave final approval to the Official Languages Act, making French equal to English throughout the national government.
In 1981, President Ronald Reagan announced he was nominating Arizona Judge Sandra Day O'Connor to become the first female justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.
In 1987, Lt. Col. Oliver North began his long-awaited public testimony at the Iran- Contra hearing, telling Congress that he had "never carried out a single act, not one," without authorization.
In 1990, the first "Three Tenors" concert took place as opera stars Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras performed amid the brick ruins of Rome's Baths of Caracalla on the eve of the World Cup championship.
Ten years ago: Over Chinese and Russian objections, Japan introduced a draft U.N. Security Council resolution to sanction North Korea for test-launching a series of missiles. (The Council unanimously adopted a compromise resolution on July 15.) Syd Barrett, co-founder of Pink Floyd, died in Cambridge, England, at age 60.
Five years ago: Rupert Murdoch's media empire unexpectedly jettisoned News of the World, Britain's best-selling Sunday newspaper, after a public backlash over claims it had used phone hacking and other illegal tactics to expose the rich and famous, royals and ordinary citizens. A Texas Rangers fan, 39-year-old Shannon Stone, died from a fatal fall when reaching out to grab a baseball tossed his way by All-Star outfielder Josh Hamilton during a Rangers game. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," the final movie based on the wizard fantasy books, debuted in London on its way to becoming the year's top-grossing movie.
-
One year ago: President Barack Obama met at the White House with the head of Vietnam's Communist Party, Nguyen Phu Trong, as the U.S. pressed ahead to conclude talks on a groundbreaking Asia-Pacific economic pact. Subway said it had mutually agreed with Jared Fogle to suspend their relationship after the home of the sandwich chain's longtime pitchman was raided by federal and state investigators. (Fogle later pleaded guilty to one count each of distributing and receiving child porn and traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a child, and was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison.) Three people were shot to death in a Baltimore neighborhood near the University of Maryland campus.

Cops shot one in MN last night so that may take the heat off of Baton Rouge, after all Al Sharpton can only be in one place at a time.

Well once again they are promising us an increased teleworking schedule due to the outrageous commuting issues here so hopefully in the next month that will occur, meaning I only have to come to the office 3 times per week max! That also means that as of the first week of August I would have far fewer than 60 days (probably somewhere around 45) in this office but honestly I might hang on another couple of months on that basis.
Oh yeah take off 2 more days in the office for the team building costume party.

Been searching for any info on costs for that Macanudo NYC club without success. You see anything? I guess it's one of those "if you have to ask, you shouldn't be there" places. Got me curious...
After additional searching, cocktail menu shows prices of $20 and up.
Table service requirements of $30 minimum per person and $15 cigar purchase.
Didn't give prices on wines or wine by the glass.
Outstanding scotch menu and strong American whiskey as well.
Draft beers: Guinness, Goose Island IPA, Bass, Stella Artois and Hoegarden. About a dozen bottled beers...eh.
Profile from New York Nightlife:
Given the location, it's no surprise that the clientele at this wood-paneled shrine to tobacco tends toward the pinstripe-and-cuff-link variety. What is shocking is how reasonably priced the cigars are. (They start at $11.) But who knows if that will last—Macanudo is already grandfathered in as one of only a handful of bars where smoking is still legal. "Oh, yeah, baby," croons the bartender, rubbing his fingers together. "I can't wait!"

Door #2 has Ovals back down to sane price range. Wrong vitola, but still.
Oval shape makes that vitola doable.
Does not matter, the Ovals and the Room 101 offers have disappeared and been replaced with some Oliva's and MOW's.

@Mayor Tony
$27
cheese-and-fruit-platter
a fine assortment of domestic and imported cheeses and fresh fruit accompanied by table water crackers.
$18
grilled-chicken-quesadilla
grilled chicken, sautéed onions, peppers and melted cheese, topped with avocado dip and a dollop of sour cream.
$24
maryland-style-crab-cakes
hand-breaded jumbo lump crab cakes served with spinach and our special tartar sauce.
$22
shrimp-cocktail
succulent jumbo shrimp served chilled with cocktail sauce, lemon and a sprig of thyme.
$18
macanudo-personal-pizza
traditional italian margherita-style pizza topped with fresh mozzarella cheese and basil.
$18
super-nachos
tostadas covered with chili con carne, grated monterey jack and cheddar cheeses, topped with sliced jalapeños, sour cream, pico de gallo and fresh guacamole.
Doesn't sound TOO unreasonable, given where you are.

Found it interesting that the title of the write-up for the Ovals was "Hurry". Makes sense now.

Good morning, fellas.
Morning Mr. Mayor.
Something wrong with the website? Names are not showing up and pages that you are not on are showing as a blank in brackets... :o
Hmmm. I'll have to take a look. Tapatalk seems to be OK. Not sure if I'll be able to fix anything from the phone though.
Signed off then on again and issue resolved, no need to put in a ticket Tony.
Strange. But glad it worked out.

Sounds like a nice spot for Tony or Flip to hang out at.
http://www.cigarjournal.co/club-macanudo-at-the-knick-opens-as-rooftop-cigar-lounge-overlooking-times-square/
I'll definitely have to check that out.
Probably cost $50 to walk in the door, $20 drinks and $15 Macanudos, CAO's and LADCs.
Maybe they have a coupon code?
Wonder if I can bring a styrofoam cooler full of beer in there?
One way to find out. Good morning, Mark.

I haven't looked yet. But I've gone to a couple of rooftop bars where they allow smoking. Just buy a couple of drinks and bring your own smokes. So I'm not willing to spend too much. I may take a walk over one of these days just to check it out.

FBI Director James Comey told a Congressional committee Thursday that Hillary Clinton's actions in using a private email setup as secretary of state did not meet the standard of prosecution. While he said Clinton did not lie to the FBI during its probe, he would not say whether she lied to the American people.

Steel cases and a lot of quality ranges don't allow you to use it. Not much value in target shooting with junk ammo loads IMFO.

Don't run into the steel bullet ban at the places where I shoot. As for value, it fed through the gun and the bullets generally went where I expected, so, I dunno. I generally stick with American Eagle or Federal, Winchester for competition. But I've had no problems so far with Tul.

Not steel bullets but mostly steel cases because they are prone to split. Indoor ranges generally don't allow the steel bullets.
That said a lot of people shoot it but I don't shoot anything except premium ammo in my guns.

Well, a lot of ranges ban steel-core bullets as well, supposedly because they tend to ricochet and they're hard on the backstops. As for the cases, that's just an attempt to make money, isn't it? Can't re-sell the spent cartridges.

Yeah sorry, strange week. Was in Ocean City until Tuesday, wife and daughter still there for a dance competition. Have had to go into work late due to having to drop my son at camp in the morning therefore work has been a scramble because I have to leave at the same time for travel baseball games so not a lot of free time

Man they are sure dumping some $hit for ammo on the market these days.
What do you consider $hit ammo?
$hit like this and many others
I tried out the TulAmmo on Sunday. I had no problems with it in my Wyndham. I'd use it for target practice.
Not steel bullets but steel cases because they are prone to split.
Well, a lot of ranges ban steel-core bullets as well, supposedly because they tend to ricochet and they're hard on the backstops. As for the cases, that's just an attempt to make money, isn't it? Can't re-sell the spent cartridges.
Once again, I learned a lot today.
Forget it in your sleep to make room for tomorrow, that way if you learn something worth knowing you have storage space.

Hope you got the cigars in over the weekend, because it doesn't sound like there is much time during the week.

I did, smoked a PC in Md but nothing since. Have a game in Denville tomorrow evening so will likely have to wait until Saturday
