Highways in the area already starting to get backed up, rapid stations with hundreds of people. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a million people down there, as nice a day as it's gonna be. I will gladly watch from the comfort of my cubicle.

Somebody needs to tell these morons the 4th of July is a national holiday and nobody will be in the courthouse to file their lawsuit.

Cigar Trade Groups Plan Lawsuit Against FDA

The Cigar Association of America (CAA), Cigar Rights of America (CRA) and International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers’ Association (IPCPR) will file a lawsuit by early next month challenging the legality of the impending regulation of cigars by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). The three groups held a joint meeting last month and leaders of the IPCPR were at a meeting held by the CRA today in Doral, Fla. Also in attendance were many cigar manufacturers. Multiple individuals in attendance told halfwheel attendees were told by CRA that a joint lawsuit will be filed by the three groups on July 4. A source told halfwheel that three organizations were still negotiating a finalized legal strategy. Even if a joint lawsuit cannot be agreed to before early July, it seems inevitable that at least one of the three would file a lawsuit individually before the first set of rules take effect on Aug. 8. Glynn Loope, executive director of CRA, declined to comment on today’s meeting. So far, two cigar companies have filed a lawsuit against FDA’s restrictions, which will require cigars to receive FDA approval, introduce new warning labels, place restrictions on free samples and require smaller changes at the retail level

According to Oklahoma president David Boren, the Big 12 will take action against Baylor in the wake of a sexual assault scandal that’s rocked the campus while making national news.

Boren said the Baylor situation was discussed on a recent teleconference and that the league will make an announcement about its plans, Wednesday.

Boren, who was attending an Oklahoma regents meeting, told reporters Tuesday: “Hopefully they’ll get things straightened out down there. The conference is going to make some statements about it, take some actions.

“How do you express approval or disapproval until you get the facts? Other than the media reports. You can’t evaluate all the facts just from media facts. Let’s put it this way. Give us the full facts to make sure we’re getting accurate information. I suspect the media information has been pretty accurate, but we’ll find out for sure.”

Today is Wednesday, June 22, the 174th day of 2016. There are 192 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On June 22, 1941, during World War II, Nazi Germany launched Operation Barbarossa, a massive invasion of the Soviet Union.

On this date:

In 1611, English explorer Henry Hudson, his son and several other people were set adrift in present-day Hudson Bay by mutineers aboard the Discovery.

In 1870, the United States Department of Justice was created.

In 1911, Britain's King George V was crowned at Westminster Abbey.

In 1937, Joe Louis began his reign as world heavyweight boxing champion by knocking out Jim Braddock in the eighth round of their fight in Chicago. (A year later on this date, Louis knocked out Max Schmeling in the first round of their rematch at Yankee Stadium.)

In 1940, during World War II, Adolf Hitler gained a stunning victory as France was forced to sign an armistice eight days after German forces overran Paris.

In 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, more popularly known as the "GI Bill of Rights."

In 1945, the World War II battle for Okinawa ended with an Allied victory.

In 1959, the Swedish film "Wild Strawberries," written and directed by Ingmar Bergman, opened in New York.

In 1969, singer-actress Judy Garland died in London at age 47.

In 1977, John N. Mitchell became the first former U.S. Attorney General to go to prison as he began serving a sentence for his role in the Watergate cover-up. (He was released 19 months later.)

In 1987, actor-dancer Fred Astaire died in Los Angeles at age 88.

In 1993, former first lady Pat Nixon died in Park Ridge, New Jersey, at age 81.

Ten years ago: During a visit to Hungary to commemorate the 1956 revolt against communism, President George W. Bush said war-weary Iraqis could learn from the Hungarians' long and bloody struggle against tyranny. The Bush administration confirmed it had gained access to international banking records as part of a classified program to choke off financial support for terrorism. The Red Cross admitted Israel as a member and allowed it to use a Star of David as its symbol.

Five years ago: President Barack Obama announced in a White House address that he would pull home 33,000 troops from Afghanistan by the following summer. James "Whitey" Bulger, the longtime fugitive Boston crime boss and fixture on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list, was arrested in Santa Monica, California.

One year ago: The Obama administration released a report on global warming that said failure to act on climate change could cause an estimated 57,000 deaths a year in the United States from poor air quality by 2100. South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said the Confederate flag should be removed from the grounds of the state capitol, reversing her position on the divisive symbol amid growing calls for it to be removed. Oscar-winning film composer James Horner, 61, was killed in the crash of his plane in Los Padres National Forest. Italian actress Laura Antonelli, 73, died in Rome.

Another moron move around here surfaces this morning.  The lady that does our Travel Order/Voucher management (she is an old beach but at least knows what she is doing) is retiring so yesterday they turned it over to the bigger idiot of the two IT guys who had the job a long time ago and never could perform at any level so they made him a secondary IT person about 15 years ago.  ::)
So no more traveling on rainy days then?
No more getting paid for your travel is more like it, well actually does not matter if he is here or not because he is totally worthless.

I just hope my boss stays here until my azz is gone, she is very promotable but tells me she is tired of the BS and will probably just stay right where she is until she can retire in about 3 years.  But, we all know how that goes.

Edit:  She is not as lucky as I am because she hates the bitch she works for and I don't blame her.

Time for the constitution to apply some lube to the paper shredder - here comes the fold.

Senate GOP May Vote on Gun Bill

Republicans in the Senate are looking to bring a gun control bill to a vote, although it has opposition from the National Rifle Association and other conservative groups, according to The Hill.

Maine Sen. Susan Collins, a Republican, launched the bill to block those on terror watch lists from buying guns. The bill has support from both Republicans and Democrats.

The usual RINO's:  Sponsors said around 10 Republicans in the Senate were onboard for the bill, including co-sponsors Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Pennsylvania's Pat Toomey and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

Like Clint Smith says, "One is none  two is one, and three is just a good time."

Nah, my threat model is generally low, so I'm a one-gun carrier. To replace the Glock 22 as my carry gun, the FN will have to engender an immediate and significant improvement to my shooting.

The second one is just going in the safe, maybe for future trade-bait.

My colleague tried to schedule a meeting today at noon and an email fight ensued. NO MORE! Call me inflexible, I don't give a rat's ass anymore.

Meeting was originally scheduled for 10 but his other meeting ran over. Why is my meeting less important?

OK, rant over.

Here's a story TexDave should love!

California state Sen. Leland Yee (D-San Francisco) — one of the state’s strongest advocates for gun control — was arrested Wednesday on charges that include scheming to defraud citizens of honest services and conspiracy to illegally traffic firearms.

Not too old that cartridge was not developed until 2002.

Good caliber for hunting in North America excluding large Bears or Moose.

I am not a big Model 70 fan because I am not a Mauser action fan but I am in the minority, here is a review by one of the more reputable gun reviewers.

Yeah, I should have said Pre-2006, when Winchesters were still completely made in Connecticut.

In Irvine, right next to the 405.  And not smoke friendly from what I can tell.  Big "smoke free property" sign out front.  I'm just here two nights, anyway, and have plenty of work to keep me occupied.

They all have that for in the building, but there is usually one of those tall smoke stations somewhere to the side of the front door and in the courtyard.

Did not see anything in the courtyard at this one but didn't ask. Most places with that no smoking property sign means not in the pool/courtyard area also.  Whatever, I have some drink coupons for the flight home tomorrow, so I'll be partying with a 100+ of my close friends.
