Sheesh.
Had to fix me some nachos and eat them up.
I'm eating something similar,  just without the tortilla chips.
That would be called a queso.
Queso with a spoon?  Surely not.
Sure. Usually made with goat cheese. You spoon it on tortillas.

Damn, now I'm hungry.
But no tortillas in the mayor's meal.  I think he's eating chilli.
Let me guess. Dr. Atkins?
Something like that. Basically just not eating too many carbs. Specifically tonight, it was a salad with taco meat,  salsa, and a little cheese.

Today is Saturday, June 11, the 163rd day of 2016. There are 203 days left in the year.

Today's Highlights in History:

On June 11, 1776, the Continental Congress formed a committee to draft a Declaration of Independence calling for freedom from Britain.

On this date:

In 1509, England's King Henry VIII married his first wife, Catherine of Aragon.

In 1770, Captain James Cook, commander of the British ship Endeavour, discovered the Great Barrier Reef off Australia by running onto it.

In 1919, Sir Barton won the Belmont Stakes, becoming horse racing's first Triple Crown winner.

In 1936, Kansas Gov. Alfred "Alf" Landon was nominated for president at the Republican national convention in Cleveland.

In 1942, the United States and the Soviet Union signed a lend-lease agreement to aid the Soviet war effort in World War II.

In 1959, the Saunders-Roe Nautical 1, the first operational hovercraft, was publicly demonstrated off the southern coast of England.

In 1962, three prisoners at Alcatraz in San Francisco Bay staged an escape, leaving the island on a makeshift raft; they were never found or heard from again.

In 1977, Seattle Slew won the Belmont Stakes, capturing the Triple Crown.

In 1985, Karen Ann Quinlan, the comatose patient whose case prompted a historic right-to-die court decision, died in Morris Plains, New Jersey, at age 31.

In 1986, the John Hughes comedy "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," starring Matthew Broderick, was released by Paramount Pictures.

In 1993, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that people who commit "hate crimes" motivated by bigotry may be sentenced to extra punishment; the court also ruled religious groups had a constitutional right to sacrifice animals in worship services.

In 2001, Timothy McVeigh, 33, was executed by injection at the federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana, for the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing that killed 168 people.

Ten years ago: Al-Qaida in Iraq vowed "major attacks" after the death of leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (AH'-boo MOO'-sahb ahl-zahr-KOW'-ee) in a U.S. airstrike. Rafael Nadal won his second consecutive French Open title, beating Roger Federer 1-6, 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 (4). Se Ri Pak beat Karrie Webb to win the LPGA Championship. "The History Boys" won six Tony Awards, including best play; "Jersey Boys" was named best musical and won four awards. Civil rights activist James Cameron, who'd survived an attempted lynching and went on to found America's Black Holocaust Museum, died in Milwaukee at age 92.

Five years ago: Rejecting calls by Democratic leaders for him to resign in a sexting scandal, Rep. Anthony Weiner instead announced he was seeking professional treatment and asked for a leave of absence from Congress. (Weiner ended up resigning his office.) Ruler On Ice posted a huge upset in the Belmont Stakes, taking the lead from Preakness Stakes winner Shackleford in the straight and winning the final leg of the Triple Crown.

One year ago: Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the U.S. military's reach could extend even further into Iraq if the anti-Islamic State campaign were to gain momentum, and held out the possibility of a greater role for U.S troops on the ground. "Free jazz" pioneer Ornette Coleman, 85, died in New York. Country singer-songwriter Jim Ed Brown, 81, died in Franklin, Tennessee. Actor Ron Moody, 91, best known for playing Fagin in the 1968 film "Oliver!," died in London.

Puerto Rico was doing OK when the gubmint offered decent incentives known as "section 936" to business to locate there, particularly pharmaceutical, electronics, petrochemical and manufacturing.  It built up their education system, expanded universities, economy was good.  For every dollar of "incentive", it was figured that Puerto Rico gained over $30 of value.  When brilliant politicians rescinded 936 ten years ago, industry moved to Ireland and other tax havens and Puerto Rico started its current decline.  Now it requires government handouts that are worth about 25 cents per dollar given.  Good economics!  But hey, they sure showed those greedy companies!

Next year I will explain it all but in the interim the issue is simply massive Government Corruption and our Gubment has been bailing them out and covering it up for a long time.  That 936 money was largely U.S. $ run thru the PR Gubment.

Problem now is the PR crooks stole all the quiet bailout $ too so they had to let the cat out of the bag that they were broke.  Basic Gubment Ponzi scheme.

The major hedge funds have been loaning mostly retirement funds to PR at higher than normal rates because all along they new there was no risk because the corrupt U.S. Gubment would cover their asses all the way.  Just like the housing bubble.

Can't agree with that one.  Team sports are great and necessary in perspective.  Take out the participation trophies, lessons learned in having to train, prepare and rely on others, deal with adversity and loss is a fundamental life lesson.  Besides, if done right, it's fun.

The key is "if done right" and at the youth level and now largely at the high school level they are not "done right".  They are daddy ball and have been at least as long as I have been alive.  Non team sports offer everything you mentioned and much more, you win you loose you make it or break it all on your own and they are based on your performance not on anyone's opinion.

Don't disagree with you, but isn't that unfairness a taste of real life?  I can only speak from my experience with my kids who participated in that imperfect system, but they got a lot out of it.  They were also involved with non sports extracurriculars which I feel are equally important.

Good morning,  folks.
Morning Mr. Mayor.  What's on the athletic calendar for today?
First we have soccer. Then appointment with the contractor. Then 8 hours (or at least it'll feel that way) of dance recitals.
Sounds like a nice day but sure glad you are getting to enjoy it instead of me. :)
I'm told I will look back on these days fondly... Right now I don't see it.

I agree with you on this one NJDave. Plus how will you ever find out your kid has a special talent if she doesn't try? Maybe some day my daughters will play for Cleveland.
Hey, we've got the Lake Erie Monsters playing at the Q tonight trying to sweep their way to the Calder Cup. Go minor league hockey!

What are you having done?
We're just talking right now. I can't emphasize that enough. About a possible extension on the 2nd floor (over the already extended kitchen). And a couple of other small odds and ends.
Simply stated:  he is doing whatever the warden tells him to do.
It was definitely her idea but I'll admit that I like it and it will work well for our family. Now the $ involved is something completely different.
Right, it was her idea and she told you to bring the money  ;D

On the patio watching NASCAR Bush race.  Just lit a Heisenberg to smoke for Tony that he gifted me.

Never had one before, rather odd shaped cigar but looks nice.  They call it a pyramid.

Brief moments that you need to take advantage of, a one week gap between rec baseball and travel baseball, I coach both so the next 6 weeks will be busy

I think I'm done with family obligations for the weekend. Recital was nice but long. In fact, long friggin' day all around.
