Today is Friday, June 10, the 162nd day of 2016. There are 204 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On June 10, 1692, the first execution resulting from the Salem witch trials in Massachusetts took place as Bridget Bishop was hanged.

On this date:

In 1864, the Confederate Congress authorized military service for men between the ages of 17 and 70.

In 1921, President Warren G. Harding signed into law the Budget and Accounting Act, which created the Bureau of the Budget and the General Accounting Office.

In 1935, Alcoholics Anonymous was founded in Akron, Ohio, by Dr. Robert Holbrook Smith and William Griffith Wilson.

In 1940, Italy declared war on France and Britain; Canada declared war on Italy. Jamaican-born Pan-African nationalist Marcus Garvey died in London at 52.

In 1942, during World War II, German forces massacred 173 male residents of Lidice (LIH'-dyiht-zeh), Czechoslovakia, in retaliation for the killing of Nazi official Reinhard Heydrich.

In 1944, German forces massacred 642 residents of the French village of Oradour-sur-Glane.

In 1967, the Middle East War ended as Israel and Syria agreed to observe a United Nations-mediated cease-fire.

In 1971, President Richard M. Nixon lifted a two-decades-old trade embargo on China.

In 1981, 6-year-old Alfredo Rampi fell down an artesian well near Frascati, Italy; the story ended tragically as efforts to rescue him proved futile.

In 1985, socialite Claus von Bulow was acquitted by a jury in Providence, Rhode Island, at his retrial on charges he'd tried to murder his heiress wife, Martha "Sunny" von Bulow.

In 1991, 11-year-old Jaycee Dugard of South Lake Tahoe, California, was abducted by Phillip and Nancy Garrido; Jaycee was held by the couple for 18 years before she was found by authorities.

In 2004, singer-musician Ray Charles died in Beverly Hills, California, at age 73.

Ten years ago: Two Saudis and one Yemeni were found hanged at the Guantanamo Bay military prison, the first successful suicides at the base after dozens of attempts. Justine Henin-Hardenne won the French Open, beating Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4, 6-4. Jazil cruised to victory, holding off Bluegrass Cat in the Belmont Stakes.

Five years ago: In a stern rebuke, Defense Secretary Robert Gates warned in Brussels that the future of the historic NATO military alliance was at risk because of European penny pinching and a distaste for front-line combat. Tony La Russa managed his 5,000th game as his St. Louis Cardinals lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 8-0.

One year ago: President Barack Obama ordered the deployment of up to 450 more American troops to Iraq in an effort to reverse major battlefield losses to the Islamic State. Pope Francis took the biggest step yet in cracking down on bishops who covered up for priests who raped and molested children, creating a new tribunal inside the Vatican to hear cases of bishops accused of failing to protect their flocks.

I've seen the YO, never tried it.  If you're going to the event anyway, I usually pick a couple of the guest's offerings, worth a try unless they're like $15 each...

That's usually how I'd do it, also. Just trying to figure out if it's worth my time to head over there. I think I've seen someone here mention the Mile Marker 82, but I may be mistaken.

At least he doesn't have to deal with that stupid iphone anymore
Yep, much better to deal with an Android that does not work.

just had the $3 sub of the day from Subway, Yes it's Friday
so it must be Tuna fish. I was across the street from one on 34th, since I was exchanging
a micro HDMI to HDMI cable for the correct mini HDMI to HDMI cable at B&H's customer service counter.
They have a separate entrance on 34th for customer service.  Seems just about anyone can take your
money in the store, but there are a select few, that can refund it.  This is the NY Metro area, I once bought
a Teac receiver on black Friday from Radio shack, and there was a dead Sony in the box.  they check everything.
Radio Shack was like "we don't sell Sony recievers."  of course you do I replied you just charged me for a new Teac instead.  the box had been opened from the bottom, and retaped.

Some nice news from USAToday:

WASHINGTON — Six U.S. airlines were approved to begin the first scheduled flights to Cuba in more than 50 years, the Transportation Department announced Friday.

The airlines were approved to fly to nine Cuban cities other than Havana. But the department is still considering which airlines will get a combined 20 daily flights to the capital out of 60 proposals, which will be announced later this summer.

The carriers approved Friday are American Airlines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Silver Airways, Southwest Airlines and Sun Country Airlines.

Flights will depart from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Chicago, Philadelphia and Minneapolis/St. Paul. While charter flights have been allowed for years, the announcement resumes scheduled airline flights.

The nine destinations in Cuba are Camagüey, Cayo Coco, Cayo Largo, Cienfuegos, Holguín, Manzanillo, Santa Clara, Santiago de Cuba and Varadero. Each city could have received up to 10 U.S. flights per day.

I can't believe there are nine airports on the island that are ready for commerical airlines however.
PS is you want to get to Gitmo....Santiago de Cuba is your airport of choice.

Why no United??

Are you dieting so you can slim down and maybe attract that cute secretary down the hall, or dieting so you don't die?  If the former, stay on the diet.  If the latter, screw the diet.  It's makes no sense to prolong life and misery at the same time.
Neither.
Just enjoy finding another way to make your life miserable.
At least you have control of this one!
Life is fine. I just had a shitty morning followed by a shitty lunch.
You ought to plan on leaving a little early, taking or buying a La Palina (or another) cigar and visit this quiet little spot:
That sounds like a great idea,  plus I happen to have a La Palina with me.

Unfortunately, already have plans that don't include cigar smoking.

On the bright side,  I AM leaving early.
Leave now, go there and get your cigar in, then carry on with your other plans.  Do I have to do all the thinking around here?

Speaking of melamine....need to give Yellowstar a shout for not stopping by.
Was wondering about Chip as well this morning. Hasn't been here or on FB is quite awhile. Hope everything is ok with him and his clan.
Swapped notes with Chip last week, still dealing with a very heavy load trying to hang on.  He fully plans to be back when life gets a little kinder to him.

Maybe there is a little justice left in this country.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A federal appeals court rejected former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle’s appeal of his sentence of more than 15 years in prison Thursday for child pornography offenses and illicit sexual conduct with a child.

A three-judge panel of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the 188-month sentence handed down by U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt in Indianapolis.

Afternoon men, finally where I want to be
You are all set!
I have to live it up before the warden gets home lol
Might as well take advantage of the free time.  I am fixing to fire something up myself.
I really like this La Imperiosa, there's a fairly dominant element I can't put my finger on that's different from the Calaveras
Have not tried one in a good while but they were Meh (as Bean would say) when I first got them
Strikes me as a blend that will age well
Will try one over the weekend, seems like they have been in my humi close to a year.  Got them the same time as Travellin Dave will let him do the thinking.
Oh, the pressure.

Not sure it's the LC 2014 but it's very good cigar
I found a very interesting beer on the way home, Stone Mocha IPA. A 9% dbl IPA with coffee and cocoa flavors, should be interesting may try it tonight as it was warm
Bean might like to try that "beer".
He doesn't know what he's missing
That's an IPA, so while not a beer I would drink it is still falls within the "beer" category in the definitive "What is beer and what is bullschit" reference guide.  Author unknown, but rest assured, he's an expert on the subject.

El Centurion with coffee, as the earlier discussion of that stick gave me a hankerin'.

Anybody notice Tony didn't give any details on his big plans for tonight.... ???
The plans got canceled. Or postponed until tomorrow morning. Contractor is coming over to discuss a possible renovation.
