Ole Blue
-------------------------

A young Southern boy goes off to college, but about 1/3 of the way
through the semester, he has foolishly squandered away all of the money his
parents gave him.

Then he gets an idea. He calls his daddy. "Dad," he says, "you won't
believe the wonders that modern education are coming up with! Why,
they actually have a program here at college that will teach our dog Ole
Blue how to talk!"

"That's absolutely amazing," his father says. "How do I get him in
that program?"

"Just send him down here with $1,000" the boy says. "I'll get him
into the course." So, his father sends the dog and the $1,000.

About 2/3 way through the semester, the money runs out. The boy calls
his father again. "So how's Ole Blue doing, son," his father asks.

"Awesome, Dad, he's talking up a storm," he says, "but you just won't believe
this they've had such good results with this program that they've
implemented a new one to teach the animals how to READ!"

"READ," says his father, "No kidding! What do I have to do to get him
in that program? "

Just send $2,500, I'll get him in the class." His father sends the
money.

The boy now has a problem. At the end of the year, his father will
find out that the dog can neither talk, nor read. So he shoots the dog.

When he gets home at the end of the semester, his father is all
excited. "Where's Ole Blue? I just can't wait to see him talk and read
something!"

"Dad," the boy says, "I have some grim news. Yesterday morning, just
before we left to drive home, Ole Blue was in the living room kicking back
in the recliner, reading the morning paper, like he usually does. Then he
turned to me and asked, ' So, is your daddy still messin' around with that
little redhead who lives on Oak Street ?'

The father says, "I hope you SHOT that son of a bitch before he talks
to your Mother!"

"I sure did, Dad!"

"That's my boy!"

So how was your yellowstar golf outing?
We played well, 4man scramble, good enough for 2nd place.  Didn't leave many shots out there...maybe 1, but we made 3 or 4 big 20'+ putts too.  How was Monday?
You Cheat?

I remember playing in GA a few years back before visiting the Masters, my dad and I played with this guy who would throw his ballmarker down a foot or 2 in front of the ball, then pick the ball up, and replace it on the ballmark when it was his turn. One, why in the world do you think no one would notice you doing that, and two, why the hell would you do that when you're not playing for money? What's the point? Idiot.

Sounds like a loser, something just irks me about cheating in golf.  It's one of the few, if not the only, self-policing sport...hopefully it stays that way.

I may be old....but aren't there four??   And speaking of fours....aren't they like 14-15?
I was doing the Two-sday for their 'peace' signage...and don't bring up the age question...you can't get in trouble if you don't ask right?
Dave, there's no "may be" about it, you're old. And in regards to the other question, if there's grass on the field, play ball!
Anymore there isn't much grass to be found, so that's no longer a valid measurement.

Not really, no. She'll be about the same until she gets the tube out of her. Skin on her back is damn near raw from having to change the bandaging and tape around it every few hours. Really something I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Is that the growler?  How do those hold up for you after opening?  I can't figure out any patterns yet but some seem to do better after opening than others.  Not sure if it has to do with the way it was filled, or the style of beer, but some are great for 2-3 days, some barely make it to the end of the day.

It's a care package... got some of that, some Choklat, and a couple different Founders from Scott in exchange for some of that Mother Earth SinTax and a few others.  West coast PB stout for east coast PB stout.

This one is doin quite well. Got it on Friday....the glass I had last nite was still great. The IPA's don't seem to do quite as well but still drinkable after 4-5 days. IMO. Not flat yet, at least. I don't know about the Ojo Blanco the wife likes....but she hasn't complained.

Tuesdays, huh?  Morning, all.  Put a Horny Goat PB porter in the fridge for later, a little motivation to get through the day.
Is that from a NJ care package or did you find a local source?

It's a care package... got some of that, some Choklat, and a couple different Founders from Scott in exchange for some of that Mother Earth SinTax and a few others.  West coast PB stout for east coast PB stout.
Sounds like a win-win.

Morning boys, been away from the banter for a while.  signed for a GMC Terrain AWD yesterday.  My wife  & I will pick it up tomorrow.  I am trading in the 2001 regal, and getting her 2007 Pontiac torrent.  Unfortunately, i smacked up the front a bit on that one on Sunday.  It's being towed by the insurance company today.  Everybody OK.

It measures 5 1/2 x 56 and features a broadleaf wrapper over Nicaraguan fillers. Like the original Warhead, the cigar is limited to 2,000 boxes of 10 and features a band that is shaped like a classic warhead. Pricing is set at $10.95 per cigar. That price is just to high.

did you see that I am still riding around (till tomorrow) in a 2001 buick.  It needed $1,800.00 in work, that I said put off since I am trading it in.  They only gave me $700.00 for it.

Well we were going to be buying the new car anyway... Since I made her car undriveable ( the radiator was a casualty of the accident) we were able to go test drive cars anyway.  I just lost the flexibilty of going to test drive the small buick SUV with 0 percent financing... 4 cyl with a turbo.   I'm just lucky she agreed to the 4 cyl with 185 Horsepower,
vs the 301 HP V6.  yes the V6 was more responsive, but significantly less gas milage, that they had to give it a bigger gas tank.

Definitely cheaper than Cigar Monster by a few bucks.  I'm sure I could get 15 of them for a cheaper per stick price but they were something I liked THAT much.  Just something I'd like to always have around.  Same with how I feel about the My Fathers, just a little too strong to want to smoke all the time.

Buy 10 at Cigar Monster (2x five packs, $26.98 each) and they're $4.40/ea assuming there's a $10 off coupon.  Buy 15, and they're $4.48 each with catsrule.  $4.50 each at CI and you only have to buy one 5-pack.

Just about done mowing the lawn.  Spring weather, so it doesn't suck nearly as much as it usually would mowing the lawn in late July.

Old Sol Cubano Sumatra toro.  Oliva made.  Great construction, ash lasted about 2 inches while mowing.  Nuts, wood, mild coffee, Simple, light, easy going kinda smoke.  IIRC they turn a bit sour in the second half, so I'll probably be pitching it soon.

The only chicken wings I have ever eaten have come from Popeyes Fried chicken, not much to celebrate I am afraid.

Geez, Chip, live a little!  I love me some Buffalo Wild Wings...
What can I say, the warden doesn't let me out much. Maybe one day I will try a fancy wing dinner.

We actually make our own and use the BWW sauces.  I do miss wings from the east coast, though, where every bar/restaurant had their own and they were all good.  People don't do wings out here.

But that is from salt water.  You also have an ameboa, Nigleria fowlerii in fresh water that enters through the nose and proceeds to kill you by eating your brain.  Thought to occur only in the deep south where water can maintain a temperature of 80 degrees, but there have been cases in Minnesota as well.

Have you had the Belching Beaver?  If not I'll bring ya a bottle when you're out here.  It's very sweet and peanut buttery, but it has an oddly low ABV (5.3% ABV).  More PB flavor than the Mother Earth but the lower ABV makes it tough to justify drinking all that stout beer.  If I'm gonna drink that many calories may as well feel a bit of a buzz.

but our Mexican food is hit or miss.  Unless you think Taco bell is good.  Just like Dominoes isn't good pizza.
Dominoe's isn't pizza period.  Then again, it made Tom Monaghan enough money to build his own town in south Florida (Ave Maria)
I got Mexican food out the gazoo here with everything from the best to the worst but no wings to amount to anything  so we just cook them at home best we can, smoke them and pretty good but definitely the East Coast has it on the wings.  Tried a Buffalo Wild Wings and that is enough to make you hate wings, tried Hooters and that is enough to make you hate Tits!!  We also are limited on good pizza here but a couple of decent places.  Had some sort of pizza in a place in Charleston last trip that was cooked in a $100,000 brick oven that was sure enough good.  Agree Domino's is not even pizza.

I can practically taste that PB porter.  Hope it's good.  Also, they use the same font on their label as Ballast Point.  So there's that.
PB is the dominant flavor...delicious

Sounds like a nice mix of all the others.  Higher ABV than the Belching Beaver, more Peanut Butter than the Mother Earth.
A little less sweet than Sweet Baby Jesus and fuller than Terrapin Liquid Bliss (Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter), both of which are worthy alternatives.

Beer that is sweet and taste like PB. just don't sound good to me at all . I want my beer to taste like beer.

All I can say is that I used to feel the same way.
Same here, gotta try it

Attention 3d!

Warm Water Sparks Flesh-Eating Disease Warning in Florida
Florida isn’t the only state to report Vibrio vulnificus infections. Alabama, Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi have also recorded cases, and a 2013 outbreak linked to contaminated shellfish sickened at least 104 people in 13 states, according to the CDC.
But that is from salt water.  You also have an ameboa, Nigleria fowlerii in fresh water that enters through the nose and proceeds to kill you by eating your brain.  Thought to occur only in the deep south where water can maintain a temperature of 80 degrees, but there have been cases in Minnesota as well.
da beads, da beads!

I can't believe Dean has not brought this to our attention and it appears LSU left it off the early morning update too.

NATIONAL CHICKEN WING DAY
CELEBRATED ANNUALLY ON JULY 29

The only chicken wings I have ever eaten have come from Popeyes Fried chicken, not much to celebrate I am afraid.

Geez, Chip, live a little!  I love me some Buffalo Wild Wings...

Many years ago, before most any people had ever heard, about "buffalo wings", my younger sister came home after her first or 2nd year at the University of buffalo.  she had us saving the chicken wings from whole chickens in the freezer.  she deep fried these wings for about 12 - 16 minutes, just the wings no breading.  In the mean time we we doing three other things. melting a stick of butter in a saucepan, and adding a bottle of Franks hot sauce.  cutting up celery and carrot stick, and making a real good blue cheese dressing.  wings come out of the pot, and dried on paper towels, than tossed into a big covered bowl with the hot/butter sauce, and then shaken for about a minute.  wings were placed on a platter, served with the celery and blue cheese dressing.  We were taught that it was important to dip the wings into the blue cheese dressing, and to restore sanity to our mouths, occasionally have a blue cheese dipped piece of celery or carrot.  We thought she was nuts. This was 1979 or 1980 or so.  after a few meals like this, we went out a bought an electric deep fat fryer. now you have the secret to making authentic buffalo wings.  some folks add some ketchup to the sauce to reduce the heat.

I have my ash trays on top of a used whiskey barrel on my back patio.  It's probably the most flammable thing out there, haha.  When the day comes that we move the first thing I'll do is chop that thing up and have a fire.  Bet it'll smell amazing.  Besides, even if it were regular ol' untreated wood, it's not like it's INSTANTLY flammable.  Ever try starting a fire in a pit without any starters or fluids??!

even fuel oil #2 is not flammable just sitting there. An open flame will not light it.  pour some gasoline on top you can light it.  one place I worked many years ago, taught marine fire fighting/damage control.  we had a open top oil filled 30 foot tank, we used to put out with water. (sweep the flames to one side of the tank, keep cooling it down, it will go out.)

My thought wasn't that the ashtray would catch fire, but that inevitably it would get burn marks all over it and look kinda junky. Not like a metal or ceramic one that you could just wipe out and have it look like new again.

I do understand your sentiment but... it'd be like worrying that your trash cans are dirty.
Fucking ridiculous.  What's next?  Are we gonna clean the crapper too?

Or sweep and vacuum the floors when we're just gonna walk all over them?  WTF?
Is the car done?

With that, I'm out.  Have a good evening all.  Stay away from the flesh eating bacteria and brain eating ameboas.  Drink PB Stout and Porter!!!
