Today is Monday, April 11, the 102nd day of 2016. There are 264 days left in the year.
Today's Highlight in History:
On April 11, 1966, Frank Sinatra recorded the song "Strangers in the Night" for his label, Reprise Records.
On this date:
In 1689, William III and Mary II were crowned as joint sovereigns of Britain.
In 1713, the Treaty of Utrecht was signed, ending the War of the Spanish Succession.
In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln spoke to a crowd outside the White House, saying, "We meet this evening, not in sorrow, but in gladness of heart." (It was the last public address Lincoln would deliver.)
In 1921, Iowa became the first state to impose a cigarette tax, at 2 cents a package.
In 1945, during World War II, American soldiers liberated the Nazi concentration camp Buchenwald in Germany.
In 1951, President Harry S. Truman relieved Gen. Douglas MacArthur of his commands in the Far East.
In 1965, dozens of tornadoes raked six Midwestern states on Palm Sunday, killing 271 people.
In 1970, Apollo 13, with astronauts James A. Lovell, Fred W. Haise and Jack Swigert, blasted off on its ill-fated mission to the moon.
In 1979, Idi Amin was deposed as president of Uganda as rebels and exiles backed by Tanzanian (tan-zuh-NEE'-uhn) forces seized control.
In 1989, Mexican officials began unearthing the remains of victims of a drug-trafficking cult near Matamoros; one of the dead was University of Texas student Mark Kilroy, who had disappeared while on spring break. (Several cult members were later convicted of premeditated murder and sentenced to 50 years in prison.)
In 1991, the musical "Miss Saigon," which sparked controversy over charges it was racist and sexist, opened on Broadway.
In 1996, seven-year-old Jessica Dubroff, who'd hoped to become the youngest person to fly cross-country, was killed along with her father and flight instructor when her plane crashed after takeoff from Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Ten years ago: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (mahk-MOOD' ah-muh-DEE'-neh-zhahd) announced that his country had succeeded in enriching uranium on a small scale for the first time. Israel's Cabinet declared Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (ah-ree-EL' shah-ROHN'), who had suffered a stroke, permanently incapacitated, officially ending his five-year tenure. A suicide bombing during an outdoor Sunni Muslim prayer service in Karachi, Pakistan, killed more than 50 people. June Pointer, the youngest of the Pointer Sisters, died in Los Angeles at age 52.
Five years ago: A bloody, four-month standoff in the West African nation of Ivory Coast ended when troops loyal to the elected president, Alassane Ouattara (ah-lah-SAHN' WAH'-tah-rah), routed and captured his rival, Laurent Gbagbo (loh-RAHN' BAHG'-boh), the longtime strongman who'd lost the vote but refused to give up power. A subway bombing in Minsk, Belarus, claimed 15 lives.
One year ago: President Barack Obama and Cuban President Raoul Castro sat down together on the sidelines of the Summit of the Americas in Panama City in the first formal meeting of the two countries' leaders in half a century.

Some interesting twists in the New Orleans Will Smith Murder. May not have actually been Road Rage but a planned assignation. Guy who shot him was a former football player but did not make it to the NFL and His Father was shot and killed by a New Orleans City Cop. (Smoked Bacon?) Will Smith had dinner with that cop before heading home at which time the shooter may have intentionally rear-ended Smith's car to get him out in the open.

The really cool thing about Golf is they do not like for their parents to come to the tournaments because "we make them nervous", no kidding, son played 3 years on a State Championship High School Golf Team and I never once saw him hit a ball in a match, nor did any of the other parents on that Team or most other Team's.

Nah, if she's retired too, she will most likely be sleeping in and wouldn't hurry with the shower and hairdrying until much later, so Tex will be able to escape out to the deck or porch with his coffee and EPC 2nd.

I'm going to pretend I didn't read this stupid-ass quote.
Hahaha. Thought I was the only one bothered by it.
Certainly not his finest work
Shit, you expect me to select my own quotes now?
This just happens to be the one attached to todays' news and birthdays.
You want a hand selected quote?
“Ninety percent of all problems are caused by people being assholes.”
“What causes the other ten percent?” asked Kizzy.
“Natural disasters,” said Nib.”
― Becky Chambers, The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet
“World is so beautiful, but alas! There are so many assholes.”
― M.F. Moonzajer
“He's a moron being an asshole. You don't shoot people for being assholes, or the human race would be extinct.”
― L.S. Hawker, The Drowning Game
and finally...
I was talking about Vonnegut...sheesh
But Dave posted it, so it's just like he said it himself.
And I posted this as well!
That is a good one, LMFAO
Has a bit of a Tuesday feel in here

I'm sure the day will come where you wake up on a Monday morning, no alarm, no meeting, no job, no traveling, nothing pressing to attend to, and you'll say to yourself, "Mondays aren't so bad after all".
Yea, but in truth, they are not Mondays....they are just "the next day" so it doesn't really count.
6 Saturdays and a Sunday.

Apparently the warden signed into something, and now I'm getting daily emails. Some of the gift card deals look really good... almost too good to be true. So, that's why I was asking.

We could always delve into the Hitchhikers Guide....
“Funny,” he intoned funereally, “how just when you think life can’t possibly get any worse it suddenly does.”
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.
The last ever dolphin message was misinterpreted as a surprisingly sophisticated attempt to do a double-backwards-somersault through a hoop whilst whistling the ‘Star Spangled Banner’, but in fact the message was this: So long and thanks for all the fish.
The chances of finding out what’s really going on in the universe are so remote, the only thing to do is hang the sense of it and keep yourself occupied.
It is a well known fact that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.
“Nothing travels faster than the speed of light with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws.”
Protect me from knowing what I don’t need to know. Protect me from even knowing that there are things to know that I don’t know. Protect me from knowing that I decided not to know about the things that I decided not to know about. Amen.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I have had varying degrees of success and failure. knowing the fine print on the deal is crucial.
say to get $25 off, some places have a minimum spend of $37.50 to $50. is is always recommended that you
tip your server on the undiscounted value of the bill, since they did that much work. Most places happy to take them. may not be good for every night of the week or holidays(fine print). some times they are for two or 4 people. went to a new restaurant, with a 4 person coupon, with only 3 people, we ordered apps entrees, dessert and drinks, and our bill for 3 was much higher than the average coupon cutter, but they wouldn't let us use it, since we were short
one person(as opposed to being a short person!). I have used them on vacation, and locally. Occasionally they run a $5 sale, you can get a $25 off coupon for $5. I stock up then. they appear immediately in your account, and you can print them off. there usually is a time limit to use them, and if the place stops taking them, or goes out of business, they tell you to log in, get the credit back and pick another place. I have some that are over a year old, and I don't expect to have any problem using them, anytime soon. turned in some ones I bought for Tennessee, and got Jersey ones last year.

No, been a rough month with my back, then illness. This is all bullshit, but I'm down 10 lbs. Just need a healthy month.
My back reacted poorly to the month of treadmill, no more of that so once I feel better it's eliptical time

I did notice the min. purchase disclaimer(s) and some are location specific for chains, but other than having short turn expiration's, I thought some could be a good value... especially for 4 people.

There was something like the $5/$25 deal going when I got the first email. Today, there is a spend $20, get $50 freebie. I may give this a try. There are quite a few places we frequent on the deals list. We are already use Gift Card Granny and similar sites with good success. Thanks for your feedback.

I remember my mom keeping up with those. Credit card reward points, same concept though not as much fun as watching the booklets fill up.

What's up, fellas? Slow Monday here. Much appreciated change after the previous few weeks.
Afternoon Steve, Mike
Howdy, Scott. You back down to your playin' weight yet? If not, Dan Marino has a solution... ;)
No, been a rough month with my back, then illness. This is all bullshit, but I'm down 10 lbs. Just need a healthy month.
My back reacted poorly to the month of treadmill, no more of that so once I feel better it's eliptical time
most people use their feet on the treadmill, didn't you get an instructional video? 8)
I'll have to revisit my technique
TWSS - cheap shot but it adds to the post count. Trying to catch up with CCB.
Got a lot of work to do CB. We don't accept Green Stamp transfers.
It just dawned on me, some of these youngun's will have no idea what you are talking about.
Forever stamps yes(hope you didn't stock up on them anticipating another postal rate increase!), but green stamps
and the catalog for prize redemption, no idea.....
Yup, exactly why I brought it up.

When you heading out here again Bean?
Looks like I may be going to Granbury in the next month or two. I'll plan on making a swing by Austin way. Keep you posted.

Resorting to TWSS's to pad your post count. Sheesh.

Since when have you had to justify your posting CB?
