Saw 2 good movies that have max impact on the big screen: Star Wars and The Revenant, both very powerful & interesting on many levels.
Frontier life was brutal & bloody. But so is life in the galaxy frontiers.
Really, both come down to battles of good vs evil.
Had a couple good brews, PDR Sungrown Habano torp. (always reliable for good flavor, draw & construction), spiced shrimp & crab chowdah.

Was really impressed with the new Star Wars, and that was even with really high expectations. Looking forward to it coming out on DVD in a week or 2.

Today is Wednesday, March 23, the 83rd day of 2016. There are 283 days left in the year. The Jewish holiday Purim begins at sunset.

Today's Highlight in History:

On March 23, 1775, Patrick Henry delivered an address to the Virginia Provincial Convention in which he is said to have declared, "Give me liberty, or give me death!"

On this date:

In 1792, Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 94 in G Major (the "Surprise" symphony) had its first public performance in London.

In 1806, explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, having reached the Pacific coast, began their journey back east.

In 1914, the first installment of "The Perils of Pauline," the legendary silent film serial starring Pearl White, premiered in the greater New York City area.

In 1919, Benito Mussolini founded his Fascist political movement in Milan, Italy.

In 1933, the German Reichstag adopted the Enabling Act, which effectively granted Adolf Hitler dictatorial powers.

In 1942, the first Japanese-Americans evacuated by the U.S. Army during World War II arrived at the internment camp in Manzanar, California.

In 1956, Pakistan became an Islamic republic.

In 1965, America's first two-person space mission took place as Gemini 3 blasted off with astronauts Virgil I. Grissom and John W. Young aboard for a nearly 5-hour flight.

In 1973, before sentencing a group of Watergate break-in defendants, Chief U.S. District Judge John J. Sirica read aloud a letter he'd received from James W. McCord Jr. which said there had been "political pressure" to "plead guilty and remain silent."

In 1983, President Ronald Reagan first proposed developing technology to intercept incoming enemy missiles — an idea that came to be known as the Strategic Defense Initiative. Dr. Barney Clark, recipient of a Jarvik permanent artificial heart, died at the University of Utah Medical Center after 112 days with the device.

In 1996, Taiwan held its first direct presidential elections; incumbent Lee Teng-hui (lee dung-hway) was the victor.

In 2001, Russia's orbiting Mir space station ended its 15-year odyssey with a planned fiery plunge into the South Pacific.

Ten years ago: U.S. and British forces freed three Christian peace activists — one Briton and two Canadians — near Baghdad, ending a four-month hostage ordeal that saw an American in the group killed. Police took DNA samples from 46 members of the Duke University lacrosse team after a woman hired to dance for a party charged she'd been raped. (Three players were indicted on charges of attacking the woman, but the rape counts were later dropped and the players exonerated.) Stephane Lambiel of Switzerland won his second straight World Figure Skating Championships title, in Calgary, Alberta. Conductor and opera company director Sarah Caldwell died in Portland, Maine, at age 82. Desmond T. Doss Sr., a conscientious objector whose achievements as a noncombatant earned him a Medal of Honor in World War II, died in Piedmont, Alabama, at age 87.

Five years ago: Academy Award-winning actress Elizabeth Taylor died in Los Angeles at age 79. NATO ships began patrolling off Libya's coast as airstrikes, missiles and energized rebels forced Moammar Gadhafi's tanks to roll back from two key western cities. A blast blamed on Palestinian militants ripped through a bus stop in Jerusalem, killing Mary Jean Gardner, a 59-year-old British tourist and wounding two dozen other people, including five Americans. Army Spc. Jeremy Morlock pleaded guilty at his court-martial at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state to the murders of three unarmed Afghan civilians (he was sentenced to 24 years in prison).

One year ago: Sen. Ted Cruz launched his bid for the Republican presidential nomination at Liberty University, a Christian school in Lynchburg, Virginia, founded by the late Rev. Jerry Falwell. Lee Kuan Yew, the founder of modern Singapore who was feared for his authoritarian tactics and admired worldwide for turning the city-state into one of the world's richest nations while in power for 31 years, died at age 91

Really want to get a BlueRay player, but would need a new tv in order to do that, and I'm reluctant to get a new tv when my current one still works like a champ. I'll still be slumming with the DVD, for now.

Morning flip. I was impressed by the latest SW movie also.  The basic story line progression was the same as the earlier versions, but the new young woman star was casting perfection.

Smoked a "new label" Fallen Angel box press yesterday with about 2-3 months rest.   Definitely a totally different cigar then the old label and definitely not as good IMHO.  I would not call it a bad cigar but more of a mehhh no more than "average" I guess would be about right.  That said I would not buy them again either.  One burn issue along the way but otherwise construction seemed fine.  And, it might get better with some more aging.

Fortunately I have a nice supply of the old labels!

Looks like we will soon have to go visit Golf to smoke indoors, unless of course we go to Jamie's!

Ohio Bill Would Ease Smoking Ban for Private Clubs
A new bill in Ohio could make it easier for private clubs to allow smoking in their clubs. Last week, Sen. Joe Schiavoni, D-Boardman, introduced S.B. 295, a bill that would modify Ohio’s indoor smoking ban to greatly increase the number of private clubs where smoking would be allowed. Currently, smoking is permitted in private clubs that are located in a freestanding structure, do not have any employees and are non-profits. S.B. 295 would modify all three of these conditions. For-profit clubs would be able to allow smoking. They would also be able operate alongside other businesses so long as they properly deal with ventilation. Employees would be able to work in the club so long as they are 18. The clubs would have to pay a new annual fee to the Department of Health’s smoke free indoor air fund. Ohio law already contains exemptions for retail tobacco shops and family-owned businesses where all employees are related to the employee.

Baton Rouge, La. Considers Banning Smoking in Bars & Casinos

First it was New Orleans, now the second largest city in New Orleans will consider banning smoking in bars and casinos. The ordinance, which is likely to be voted in on April, is likely to already have five of seven needed sponsors. Like New Orleans, Baton Rouge is home to a variety of casinos which provided $9.8 million to the city-parish last year. Since a smoking ban was enacted in New Orleans last year, several casinos have reported a notable drop in revenue, including an over 30 percent drop year-to-year for certain months at Harrah’s New Orleans

BlueRay, with 7.1 sound please.....
Good morning guys  8)
Really want to get a BlueRay player, but would need a new tv in order to do that, and I'm reluctant to get a new tv when my current one still works like a champ. I'll still be slumming with the DVD, for now.
No HighDef flat screens in the house yet?  40 inch 1080p is now very affordable, with 4k out there now. either way, BlueRay disk might come packed with a DVD, worth it to get that package, watch DVD now, use Blueray in the future.
this from the guy whose TV in the living room's best input is SVHS! It is a good ole RCA 36 inch TV, Dual Analog tuners, so picture in a picture hasn't worked for years since FIOS went digital. but in the man cave media room, BlueRay, 42inch flat screen with 7.1 sound.

Morning men.  New guy here is plying me with donuts and has the coffee made when I arrive.  Not used to that treatment.  I might have to marry him.
Some guys never learn. Put a ring on that finger and the doughnuts will stop. Don't do it.
Good advice.  That's why you're the Mayor.
Yep, marry a nice donut and next thing you know the donut hole has grown back together.
And it eventually starts to sag and the glaze flakes off. If only the fresh ones weren't so damn expensive.
Send all of your old donuts to Yankeetown, FL, I know a guy...
Does this guy offer any assistance with getting a new cell phone plan?

old colonial house, don't have a wallspace or a room big enough for that.  plus, I am cheap, don't want to spend more than $500 for a TV, although I did go above that for the Denon Reciever for the media room. Originally spent $200 for a used Onkyo, then the wife complained I was buying used stuff, hello store card and 1 year no interest financing. when the wife asked how much, after I got it home, hell it was only $635....

Sounds like a BD electronics quandry.
You can get a BlueRay player as they don't cost much more than a standard DVD (when you can find them).  They play regular stuff too until you upgrade the TV so you can enjoy it more.

the problem is most BlueRay players only have HDMI outputs for video.  Old TV's don't have HDMI inputs.
It is a case of no place for the HDMI gazinta, to go in to.

Good quality constructed cigars still but not the taste they once had back in the day, just like RyJ, H Upmann and the other Altadis brands..  I would say still a good quality entry level mild smoke, IMHO.

You bringing donuts?

Morning men.  New guy here is plying me with donuts and has the coffee made when I arrive.  Not used to that treatment.  I might have to marry him.
Some guys never learn. Put a ring on that finger and the doughnuts will stop. Don't do it.
Good advice.  That's why you're the Mayor.
Yep, marry a nice donut and next thing you know the donut hole has grown back together.
And it eventually starts to sag and the glaze flakes off. If only the fresh ones weren't so damn expensive.
Send all of your old donuts to Yankeetown, FL, I know a guy...
LMFAO!

It's a heavy Monte day, between the Page and CigarFu.
Never been a Monte fan.
Seems like more hype because of the name than anything else.
Good quality constructed cigars still but not the taste they once had back in the day, just like RyJ, H Upmann and the other Altadis brands..  I would say still a good quality entry level mild smoke, IMHO.
Before we knew we had a choice, and smoking could be more than making smoke.

I been checking off my retirement living needs list and looking pretty solid.

Guns - only plan on purchasing 1 or at most 2 more in the next 300 days.
Reading Material - Added on a couple of Earnest Hemmingway works yesterday so now the bookshelf is pretty well set for at least 2 years of reading.  Magazines, 3 year subscriptions all in place.
Technology - New iPhone(s) in October, new computer in place, still need new iPad.
Cigars
- 5-7 years worth in the humi's
Alcohol - Does not keep that well so mostly will be a buy as needed.
Pussy - now there is a seriously deficient supply :(

I'll start with one to avoid - Pineapple Sculpin. Sounded good but very average at best, flavor seemed artificial

Best new beer I've had recently was the Stone Bittersweet Chocolate, really good

I have only been drinking dark stuff, haven't had anything impressive in the IPA world latey that's new

Agreed about the Pineapple.  Sculpin has enough of a citrus taste by itself.  Addition is too much.
As for the Stone, I'll try it because I trust you.... ::)  Other than the Drink By's... I'm not a big fan of Stone.

I was out at lunch and it is perfect out!  Choose wisely.
No pressure...

I don't have them with me, but I bought a pair of Rakes(quad ligero) on St Patty's Day, along with the Pickle Works.
they had other gimmicky cigars, chinese finger traps, and numchucks at the B&M event.

You know, i think I'm going to leave soon, too
If I get home early enough, Gabrielle can take the car to dance class,
so nobody has to pick her up.

Like Joe as part of the Today Show as opposed to today's giggling feminist crap.

You back home CB?
Indeed.  Good visit with all kinds of different weather.  Spent a couple of days down San Antonio way - Alamo, Riverwalk, SeaWorld even Bucee's.   Crowds everywhere what with the kids on Springbreak.

Yeah with spring break and SXSW it was a crazy week.  If Bucee's ain't got it you don't need it!

Another late evening work conference call going here. Just glad I was able to sneak a smoke in on my way home and take advantage of the decent weather.

Had a CAO La Trav maddie gifted to me by a generous Texas buddy. It was good but I don't enjoy them as much as I used to. Although I always preferred the non-maddie on that line.
