For those interested, the sentencing in the trial I was on has been done. The former mayor got 3 years probation, 100 hours community service, an order to pay $27k in fines and is forever barred from holding public office. The councilman got 3 years probation and has to repay $13k. The lawyers already previously said they would appeal.
