I didn't mean to commandeer your posts @LuvTooGolf but I wanted to try something. In the past, I recall quoting the previous jam items and keeping them all together so that you didn't need to scroll back to see what was offered throughout the day.

It can become a bit ugly and unwieldy but I also wanted to try merging posts. I think it looks pretty good.

Do you have a forced vacation policy like Raz? We have something similar, where we can only bank so many hours, then we stop accruing them. But it's well over 300 hours, so I'm not quite there yet. 210 in the bank right now, with 8 coming off that when I'm out on the links tomorrow.

No I don't have a forced policy. I will however lose my time if my contract is not renewed. I always keep just enough in case I get sick and that's about it.

We shall see. They added a tobacco use surcharge a few years ago with little fanfare, the rationale being smokers cause higher medical payouts. And that's an argument they can easily make here, since covid treatments are costing them tens of thousands of dollars. And since we self-insure our medical benefits, it's the company paying those costs. I imagine some people may make a fuss, but ultimately, I don't know that there's much they can do about it. Get the shot, pay the surcharge or quit.

My point is this and I will drop it here. I know of a woman who has terrible health issues and her doctor told her do not get the vaccine. That it would complicate her condition and possibly kill her.

Those issues definitely exist, and maybe they will make exceptions in those cases. But the vast majority of people who are electing to not get the shot are not doing it for medical reasons.

With the amount of money involved, you would think they would have a decent surviellance system and on site security so they'd know when a damn truck pulls up and gets fully loaded after hours.

Should have a larger surcharge.  Nah, not going to change the remaining holdouts minds.  They should stop wasting time and money trying to convince them.

Speaking of HR, got an email about our new benefits next year, and one of the things they're doing is adding a $25 per pay surcharge for the unvaccinated. Wonder if that will change anyone's mind about getting the shot.
That's interesting. Please do keep us posted on this one. I have a feeling this won't be the end of the story.
You have to think... Here come the lawsuits with a lot of these supposed rule changes, etc. I heard on the radio of a Doctor who will only see vaccinated patients. Discrimination?
Almost all of these cases that do go to court have been decided in favor of the businesses right to manage their business.
Indeed. Not much different than a business suing (and winning) for the right to not provide a wedding cake to a gay couple or some other ridiculous shit.

My point is this and I will drop it here. I know of a woman who has terrible health issues and her doctor told her do not get the vaccine. That it would complicate her condition and possibly kill her.
There are valid cases like that, which is why it's all that much more important for all/most others that are not compromised to get it.  That would minimize the risk to her and others like her.  (and currently small children).

Should have a larger surcharge.  Nah, not going to change the remaining holdouts minds.  They should stop wasting time and money trying to convince them.
I agree, it only amounts to $650 per year, so that's not going to defray much of the cost associated. And you're right, we've probably hit the plateau for folks getting vaccinated at this point.

Or all the businesses and entertainment venues that require proof of vaccination or negative test.

But smoking and alcohol are sin taxes so companies and government can tax and charge with impunity.
This is a political event.

Today is Thursday, Sept. 9, the 252nd day of 2021.
There are 113 days left in the year.

Today’s Highlight in History:

On Sept. 9, 1850, California became the 31st state of the union.

On this date:

In 1776, the second Continental Congress made the term “United States” official, replacing “United Colonies.”

In 1893, Frances Cleveland, wife of President Grover Cleveland, gave birth to a daughter, Esther, in the White House; it was the first (and, to date, only) time a president’s child was born in the executive mansion.

In 1919, some 1,100 members of Boston’s 1,500-man police force went on strike. (The strike was broken by Massachusetts Gov. Calvin Coolidge with replacement officers.)

In 1932, the steamboat Observation exploded in New York’s East River, killing 72 people.

In 1948, the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea (North Korea) was declared.

In 1956, Elvis Presley made the first of three appearances on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”

In 1957, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the first civil rights bill to pass Congress since Reconstruction, a measure primarily concerned with protecting voting rights and which also established a Civil Rights Division in the U.S. Department of Justice.

In 1960, in the first regular-season American Football League game, the Denver Broncos defeated the Boston Patriots, 13-10.

In 1971, prisoners seized control of the maximum-security Attica Correctional Facility near Buffalo, New York, beginning a siege that ended up claiming 43 lives.

In 1991, boxer Mike Tyson was indicted in Indianapolis on a charge of raping Desiree Washington, a beauty pageant contestant. (Tyson was convicted and ended up serving three years of a six-year prison sentence.)

In 2005, Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Michael Brown, the principal target of harsh criticism of the Bush administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina, was relieved of his onsite command.

In 2015, Queen Elizabeth II became the longest reigning monarch in British history, serving as sovereign for 23,226 days (about 63 years and 7 months), according to Buckingham Palace, surpassing Queen Victoria, her great-great-grandmother. New York became the first U.S. city to require salt warnings on chain-restaurant menus.

Ten years ago: New Yorkers and Washingtonians shrugged off talk of a new terror threat as intelligence officials scrambled to nail down information on a possible al-Qaida strike timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

Five years ago: Defying the White House, Congress sent President Barack Obama legislation giving the families of victims of the September 11 attacks the right to sue Saudi Arabia. (Obama vetoed the bill, but Congress overrode his veto.) Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, speaking at an LGBT fundraiser in New York City, described half of Republican Donald Trump’s supporters as “a basket of deplorables,” a characterization for which she ended up expressing regret. Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson were among those inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

One year ago: The top U.S. general for the Middle East, Gen. Frank McKenzie, said the Trump administration would pull thousands of troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan by November. President Donald Trump acknowledged that he had downplayed the coronavirus in the weeks after it emerged, saying he was trying to be a “cheerleader” for the country and avoid causing panic. Officials said the wildfires burning in Oregon’s forested valleys and along the coast had destroyed hundreds of homes; in Washington state, flames devoured buildings and huge tracts of land. A federal report said vaping by U.S. teenagers had fallen dramatically, especially among middle schoolers.

Let's agree to disagree on this one, Rick. Pretty sure there would be a legal issue if I was a plumber and I refused to service Asian-American homes. I guess one could come up with a number of excuses and get away with it but I don't believe you have the right to say that you don't serve that kind.

Now that the kids are back in school, I need to give serious thought to getting outside and enjoying a cigar on my lunch break.

I have running around to do after work and rain rolls in this afternoon. My man cave is a workout room until maybe winter. Which is not a bad thing.

So glad we got rid of the huge pine tree that was next to our house. Damn thing would drop needles in the gutter like it was getting paid. Plus, it was an eyesore.

For today the over/under is 10. If you are asking what that means, how many names do you recognize from Today's Birthdays?:

That last one might technically be the first repeat. Not sure though. I noticed that lately they may have two separate offerings for the same sticks but the quantities differ.
