Good morning, Dave. The house is still standing. The most concerning leak was in the kitchen where the first floor jets out a bit and now looks I'll have to get the roof looked at.

We've been hearing sirens all night. I can only imagine it's an absolute mess out there. The good news is that the sun is shining. Oh, and that the Yanks won after three straight losses.

My MoWPAM apparently has a new chapter. I got the 2 emails about the separate orders last night (5er in each, for some reason). Checked the account today, and while one of the orders was put through no charge, the other was charged to my debit card. So I guess I have to call them this morning for the third time. Wish I'd never ordered these damn things.

I think this is how Dean gave up on them too. You need to speak to a manager and use as few words as possible to avoid confusion. I would seriously write it out with bullet points and make it easy enough that a 5 year old could understand it.

I think it is going to be ok. The storm was worse than expected. It was raining sideways for a really long time. I have heard tons of stories of flooded basements, etc. I collected about 2 inches of water in a 5 gallon pail. It was coming through a light socket in the kitchen where I turned the power off at the breaker a few year back (it's a long story). We've been seriously talking about redoing the kitchen and we may have to add the new roof to the remodel.

Edit: And obviously a new light.

They're supposedly refunding the money to my account, and offered me $20 for a future order. Not sure that will ever get used, but whatever. And at the end, the guy apologized and said he guaranteed this wouldn't happen again. I said, I get that you probably have to say that, but since this is already the 3rd error on this 1 order, please don't use the word guarantee.

Related to Dave's issue with CI, I am really getting fed up with incompetent customer service. More and more I find myself having to explain things that I have already explained and the person on the other end just doesn't listen enough to get it. Every one is so distracted. Often times they are trying to multitask and nothing gets done properly. I tell my kids all the time to focus on the one task they are working on. If that task is wiping your ass, do it well before you move on to the next.

Rant over.

Here's the reason, IMFO - people don't listen to understand, they listen to respond. Just waiting for you to stop so they can say whatever they've been told to say, or worried about what comes next without paying attention to what's happening now.

And it's not so much a multi-task, it's a single task, but the wrong one. I can't remember the number of times I've picked up something in a restaurant or drive-thru lately where at least one employee was standing around on their phone. I mean, what the fuck is that all about, anyways?

And this isn't a lack of understanding, it's something simple that was easy to do that was just fucked up. The initial error of it pending, I can understand. Their computer system has never been great, updates be damned. But then the first lady fucked up by sending the wrong order down when I called. And I know she did it wrong, cause it was wrong on the packing slip. Then the second woman, to put through 2 orders and charge my card for one of them, without any authorization to do so? What if I had been someone who didn't have enough money in my account to cover it? Now I'm being charged fees and whatnot, all because of their error. Customer service is just shit these days.

There is a Wendy's near my house that I refuse to go to because they NEVER get the order correct. That's almost an accomplishment in itself.

Ok, now rant is really over.  ;)

In other news, we got a call from the oldest's school yesterday. They're delaying their return to school by a day to give the new 9th graders into the school a chance to acclimate. My question is, what about the 10th graders that have also never been in the school thanks to virtual learning?

Also, it shouldn't be THAT much of a shock to their system, because the high school and middle school are actually in the same big building, they just keep the 2 separated. So it's not like they're journeying to a foreign land or anything, just moving to the other side of the 2 long hallways.

Today is Thursday, Sept. 2, the 245th day of 2021. There are 120 days left in the year.

Today’s Highlight in History:
On Sept. 2, 1969, in what some regard as the birth of the Internet, two connected computers at the University of California, Los Angeles, passed test data through a 15-foot cable.

On this date:
In 1666, the Great Fire of London broke out.

In 1789, the United States Treasury Department was established.

In 1864, during the Civil War, Union Gen. William T. Sherman’s forces occupied Atlanta.

In 1944, during World War II, Navy pilot Lt. (jg) George Herbert Walker Bush was shot down by Japanese forces as he completed a bombing run over the Bonin Islands. (Bush was rescued by the crew of the submarine USS Finback; his two crew members, however, died.)

In 1945, Japan formally surrendered in ceremonies aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, ending World War II.

In 1960, Wilma Rudolph of the United States won the first of her three gold medals at the Rome Summer Olympics as she finished the 100-meter dash in 11 seconds.

In 1963, Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace prevented the integration of Tuskegee High School by encircling the building with state troopers. “The CBS Evening News” with Walter Cronkite was lengthened from 15 to 30 minutes, becoming network television’s first half-hour nightly newscast.

In 1998, a Swissair MD-11 jetliner crashed off Nova Scotia, killing all 229 people aboard.

In 2005, a National Guard convoy packed with food, water and medicine rolled into New Orleans four days after Hurricane Katrina.

In 2008, Republicans assailed Barack Obama as the most liberal, least experienced White House nominee in history at their convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, and enthusiastically extolled their own man, John McCain, as ready to lead the nation.

In 2018, Sen. John McCain was laid to rest on a grassy hill at the U.S. Naval Academy, after a horse-drawn caisson carrying the senator’s casket led a procession of mourners from the academy’s chapel to its cemetery.

In 2019, a fire swept a boat carrying recreational scuba divers that was anchored near an island off the Southern California coast; the captain and four other crew members were able to escape the flames, but 34 people who were trapped below died.

Ten years ago: In a dramatic reversal, President Barack Obama scrubbed a proposed clean-air regulation aimed at reducing smog, yielding to bitterly protesting businesses and congressional Republicans who complained the rule would kill jobs in America’s ailing economy.

Five years ago: President Barack Obama departed for China on his final official trip to Asia. Tropical Storm Hermine hit Florida as a Category 1 hurricane, wiping away beachside buildings and toppling trees onto homes. Samsung Electronics recalled all of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones after finding batteries in some of the flagship gadgets exploded or caught fire.

One year ago: The family of Daniel Prude released a video and records showing that Prude had died of asphyxiation after a group of police officers in Rochester, New York, put a hood over his head and pressed his face into the pavement for two minutes. (Prude, a Black man, died after being taken off life support in March, seven days after the encounter with police.) The German government said Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny had been poisoned with the same type of Soviet-era nerve agent that British authorities identified in a 2018 attack on a former Russian spy; experts say the findings pointed strongly to Russian state involvement in the poisoning of Navalny, who was recovering in a German hospital.

They all had open house last night, but since it was literally an open house and all being done outdoors, didn't see the point of going. Though, the oldest is quite pleased that she gets an extra day of break. Lol

There is a Wendy's near my house that I refuse to go to because they NEVER get the order correct. That's almost an accomplishment in itself.

Ok, now rant is really over.  ;)
Going to be the norm rather than the exception moving forward. Don't quite understand the shift in workforce dynamic, don't know the its "Biden giving all the lazy people more money than they were making",  but there seems to have been an across the board loss in integrity following COVID gap.

Travel day yesterday not fun, but we got here.   Second leg of my flight stuck in Bmore for about two hours.  Actually surprised it was not more. 45 minute flight took almost an hour and a half with plane flying around the worst of it.

good morning guys. I think. NY/NJ had a number done on them by Bitch Ida. at least down here we kind of expect flooding and damage.
I asked the widow lady to move back in to help me out. it was either that or assisted living and boarding cats. she really did feel terrible for walking out on me and has been a great help in the last few days.
going to try and bomb the house soon. her dogs brought fleas with them. bombed the spare room last night so we have a safe place for the animals. I can sit outside and smoke cigars for two hours I guess.
with staples out and cast knee to toes it's about impossible to do anything on crutches. life is what it is and dealing with it daily can be extremely frustrating.
lost two friends yesterday. one to covid the other to an inoperable brain tumor. another in hospice with cancer, just waiting for the phone call.

Morning, Dean. Sorry to hear about your friends. Glad you've got some help now, but of course she brought fleas with her, because 2021 seems to be trying to outdo 2020 in terms of sheer fuckery. Kick back as much as possible and let the body rest up.

Fire is Mother Nature's way of cleaning up.  There are a bunch of dumbass humans who resist it, so the cleanup just gets stronger.  Mother Nature burns all their toys.  And if they really press the stupid button, she starts burning them.  It's a good thing.
