Happy Tuesday! In between insults we'll occasionally discuss cigars. Join in and perhaps learn something along the way. Warning: don't proceed if you have thin skin but don't be afraid to post either... And welcome aboard!

Morning, boyos. Happy Tuesday.

That's nuts. Looks like we'll get into the 90s today and for the next 3 days. The air is thick and you can feel it the minute you walk out.
-
My first meeting is over. It might be time to find some coffee.
-
How does the Diesel Rage measure up?

How does the Diesel Rage measure up?
Pretty standard Diesel. Good smoke, but it wasn't anything that made me want to run out and find a deal.

Opened the door for the first time and it's actually on the cooler side right now. Guess the heat is coming later in the day.

That being said, I think $4 per at the sis is a solid price for these. Not great, but solid.

If they had me in sales, I'd be happy to tell you all about the creamy texture of sunflower seeds, the faint aroma of coffee beans on the retrohale and the finish so smooth you feel like you're going to drop it. But alas, I'm not, so I'm going with not great, but solid. ;D

Sure enough, I didn't even scroll down far enough to see that one. Didn't figure there'd be two deals posted. Though, now that I've seen it, not sure it was worth the extra bit of scrolling.

I don't think schools where teachers have to reach into their own pockets to pay for supplies for their classrooms are suddenly going to find the money to install AC.

Today is Tuesday, Aug. 24, the 236th day of 2021.
There are 129 days left in the year.
Today’s Highlight in History:
On August 24, 1814, during the War of 1812, British forces invaded Washington, D.C., setting fire to the Capitol (which was still under construction) and the White House, as well as other public buildings.
On this date:
In A.D. 79, long-dormant Mount Vesuvius erupted, burying the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum in volcanic ash; an estimated 20,000 people died.
In 1932, Amelia Earhart embarked on a 19-hour flight from Los Angeles to Newark, New Jersey, making her the first woman to fly solo, non-stop, from coast to coast.
In 1949, the North Atlantic Treaty came into force.
In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Communist Control Act, outlawing the Communist Party in the United States.
In 1968, France became the world’s fifth thermonuclear power as it exploded a hydrogen bomb in the South Pacific.
In 1981, Mark David Chapman was sentenced in New York to 20 years to life in prison for murdering John Lennon. (Chapman remains imprisoned.)
In 1989, Baseball Commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti (juh-MAH’-tee) banned Pete Rose from the game for betting on his own team, the Cincinnati Reds.
In 1992, Hurricane Andrew smashed into Florida, causing $30 billion in damage; 43 U.S. deaths were blamed on the storm.
In 2001, Tom Green, a Mormon fundamentalist with five wives and 30 children, was sentenced by a court in Provo, Utah, to five years in prison for his conviction on four counts of bigamy and one count of failure to pay child support.
In 2003, the Justice Department reported the U.S. crime rate in 2002 was the lowest since studies began in 1973.
In 2008, on the final day of the Beijing Games, Kobe Bryant hit two 3-pointers in a big fourth quarter to help the United States defeat Spain 118-107 and win the men’s basketball gold medal for the first time since 2000.
In 2019, police in Aurora, Colorado, responding to a report of a suspicious person, used a chokehold to subdue Elijah McClain, a 23-year-old Black man; he suffered cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital and was later declared brain dead and taken off life support. (Three officers were placed on leave but returned to the force after prosecutors found insufficient evidence to support charging them.)
-
Ten years ago: A defiant Moammar Gadhafi vowed from hiding to fight on “until victory or martyrdom” and called on residents of the Libyan capital and loyal tribesmen across his North African nation to free Tripoli from the “devils and traitors” who had overrun it. Steve Jobs resigned as CEO of Apple Inc.; he was succeeded by Tim Cook.
Five years ago: A 6.2 magnitude earthquake reduced three central Italian towns to rubble and killed nearly 300 people. Astronaut Jeffrey Williams, commander of the International Space Station, marked a U.S. record-breaking 521st day in orbit, a number accumulated over four flights. (Upon his return to earth 13 days later, Williams had logged a grand total of 534 days in space).
One year ago: Republicans formally nominated President Donald Trump for a second term on the opening day of a scaled-down convention; during a visit to the convention city of Charlotte, North Carolina, Trump told delegates that “the only way they can take this election away from us is if this is a rigged election.” Anger over the shooting of a Black man, Jacob Blake, by police spilled into the streets of Kenosha, Wisconsin for a second night. Authorities in Portland, Oregon, said protesters repeatedly set fire to a police union headquarters building and were repelled by officers spraying tear gas. The World Health Organization said using plasma from the recovered to treat COVID-19 was still considered an “experimental” therapy; the statement came a day after President Donald Trump announced an emergency authorization of the treatment. University of Hong Kong scientists claimed to have the first evidence of someone being reinfected with the virus that causes COVID-19. Citing “significant errors” in jury selection, California’s Supreme Court overturned the death sentence for Scott Peterson but let his murder conviction stand in the killing of his pregnant wife.

If Urban Meyer doesn't sure up that Jacksonville O-line, he's going to get his franchise QB killed.
Then again, you don't go from worst to first on a couple of draft picks. Love how these teams jump on a big offensive star , then expect them to do something without protection.

Exactly. Even with great protection, these guys need time to adjust to the NFL game, which happens at a much higher speed than the college game.

Space Mountain is like that for me. Once when I was riding it, I had my hands in the air and my finger grazed some track as we were whipping by. Had my hands clutched to my chest the rest of the ride and said that was enough.

I wouldn't call it scared, I'd call it a healthy respect for leaving a ride with the same number of hands and digits I started with.

Just yesterday, I saw a video of the Aerosmith coaster at Hollywood Studios with the lights on. Doesn't have quite the same effect as 60 mph in the dark, that's for sure.

We need a new word to describe a particular mix of emotion that is becoming increasingly common. When you're amused, horrified, sad, angry and scornful all at once. Y'know that feeling when your kid does something really stupid and gets bloodied by it and there's that one moment of horror and adrenaline and fighting the urge to laugh, but your first reaction is to yell at them, "What the fuck were you thinking??" That.

Had that experience as well. Basically the generic "wild mouse" ride but inside. Probably won't be going on that one much any more. The herky-jerkey motion is a bit much for my back . Matterhorn is worse, as much as I like that ride. Will just be doing the "smooth" metal coasters going forward.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mREi_Bb85Sk
When I saw the title, I absolutely expected a song filled with fart noises.
It was a bit before your time, but one I always enjoyed. The guitar, not the farts.
Now we've got to get Mr. Raz to record us a version of it.
I can't improve on perfection. Glen Campbell could. But not me.

No need for improvement. Enough of an effort just to get through it.

Another steamy day in store here. Already saw some schools are closed because of it.
Global warming! Can't close them for every little thing. Put some AC in!
I don't think schools where teachers have to reach into their own pockets to pay for supplies for their classrooms are suddenly going to find the money to install AC.
They just need to put the money they do collect into the school.
No joke. The corruption is real.
In public schools, they just add more layers of high paid administrators. In Catholic schools the church just skims off the top for "rent and utilities and such" because they know they can make the kids do fundraisers and make the parents pay for any incidentals or activities.

A'ight, so far as I know, nunyuz was born in Commiefornia within 20 miles of the beach like I was. So here's your West Coast Cultural Anthropology minute for the day.
This is Tom Blake. The picture was taken in 1922, but if I'd cropped it carefully and asked you to guess when it was taken, I bet most of you would guess it was much later because you don't have to spend more than a minute or two in SoCal now to see a bunch of guys that look just like this. It might seem a trivial thing to note. It's just a consequence of being in the water at the shore, right? Yes and no. Tom Blake always looked like this. When everyone else, and I mean EVERYONE else was spending most of their waking hours in suits with carefully greased hair, Tom Blake looked like this. All the time. He lived out of a van in California, or in a shack on the beach in Hawaii, wore baggy shorts and sandals, and simply ignored everyone else's definition of a "normal life" in favor of surfing. In the 1920's. What we now refer to as "the surfer look" can be traced back to one man - Thomas E. Blake. He was not just a typical surfer, or the prototypical surfer, he was the archetype. And he was the archetype not because he invented the look - Pacific Islanders had been looking like that for millennia - but because he decided if it was appropriate for the beach, it was appropriate everywhere else, too...and fuck you and your expectations very much if you disagreed.
He is the guy who invented the hollow-core surfboard, and the first to put a skeg (fin) on a board. He also invented the sailboard, the underwater camera, and wrote the first book on surfing.
Oh, and no, he wasn't a California boy. He was born, and ultimately died, in Wisconsin.

It looks a bit like Kingda Ka and I won't be doing that one again. Once was plenty.
Space Mountain is like that for me. Once when I was riding it, I had my hands in the air and my finger grazed some track as we were whipping by. Had my hands clutched to my chest the rest of the ride and said that was enough.
That's funny because if you saw Space Mountain in the daylight you'd be questioning what you were so scared about. Of course, I don't have that long ape-like arms like you do.
GFY, it's Tuesday!
I wouldn't call it scared, I'd call it a healthy respect for leaving a ride with the same number of hands and digits I started with.
On Space Mountain, I keep my appendages inside the ride at all times, just like the instructions tell me.
Not sure they tell you that on that ride, or I feel like I definitely would have.

People dying while trying to film content for internet likes is definitely not something young me thought would ever be a thing. Seems to be a growing trend.

Don't forget Undercrowns offered on the CI One Day Deal.
https://www.cigarsinternational.com/1-day-deal/?slot=1
Decent enough deal. I enjoy the UC, even though they don't get a lot of love here.
I like them. One of the few cigars I like much better in the corona (Viva) over the toro.
I like all the Undercrowns. They have grown on me over the years.

Keith Richards is Dorian Gray in reverse. Somewhere there's a portrait of him that keeps getting younger, and when it is exposed he will instantly be transformed into a cherubic child.

Fun anecdote for Charlie:
For all of his low-key skill behind the kit, Watts seemed well aware that he was an irreplaceable element of the Stones’ sound. As one famous story from the band’s heyday goes, Jagger once phoned Watts’ hotel room in the midst of an all-night party, asking, “Where’s my drummer?” Watts reportedly got up, shaved, dressed in a suit, put on a tie and freshly shined shoes, descended the stairs, and punched Jagger in the face, saying, “Don’t ever call me your drummer again. You’re my fucking singer!”

You could argue that since the car has no top to it, that's ambiguous at best. If you ride a roller coaster without putting your arms in the air, what is even the point?

When I saw the title, I absolutely expected a song filled with fart noises.
It was a bit before your time, but one I always enjoyed. The guitar, not the farts.
Now we've got to get Mr. Raz to record us a version of it.

No need for improvement. Enough of an effort just to get through it.
It's not that complicated a piece to play it as Williams wrote it. Williams can play, and compose, much more complicated stuff. But Mike Post, the great composer of immortal TV themes, such as "The Rockford Files," "Hill Street Blues," "Magnum PI," and a number of others, knew a hit when he heard it. Post booked the Wrecking Crew, who were at the height of their powers. The result was huge.
But it's really not that difficult a piece to play. Unless of course, Tommy Emmanuel has gotten hold of it.
