Morning Dean, got the bill from the outpatient surgery center yesterday (only for one eye and does not include the doctors bill), laughable as always with medical bills.
Procedure took 10 minutes and I was actually in the care facility for about 30 minutes.
Asking price was almost $10,000, total paid by insurance was a little under $3000 and my out of pocket was $100.
WTF sense is there in sending $10k bills knowing they are only eligible to collect $3k has always been a total mystery to me.

Morning Bean, I got a past due bill with a $15 late charge for a $1.43 toll charge on 183A. What a fuct up operation that toll operator is!
The toll charge was made on April 4, 2018 and the first bill I have gotten was the late charge bill yesterday.
OK, that is all nice except the car has not been driven in Texas since late September of 2017 and it has never been driven on 183A.
I am sure this Fuk-up will be a real pleasure to fix.

I am waiting to hear from the surgery center to ask for money up front because it's a private facility. I'll just tell them to bill me AFTER the results are in.

Yep, the level of fk'd up at the tolling authority here is legendary. I have to call them once a quarter to have BS charges like that removed from my acct. It is a fun way to spend 5 to 20 minutes on the phone, depending on how many other irate customers are in line in front of you.

Sounds like you've got some great insurance. I'm constantly paying out of pocket and my premiums are through the roof. I would need an incurable disease in order to make out on the deal. Lose/lose situation.

You're better off paying the $15.
Edit: Although if only 5-20 minutes on the phone, as Bean suggested, then I guess it's worth a shot. I've spent HOURS on the phone with EZPass and it just wasn't worth my time.

Yes but the problem is in their computer system and the morons operating it.
They incorrectly billed over $2 million in bogus toll charges and penalties last year.

Another toll story
AUSTIN (KXAN) - As thousands of customers with TxTag accounts try to understand what it means for their outstanding toll bills after the Texas Department of Transportation announced Wednesday it's dropping $1.3 billion in late fees, the agency's customer service is quickly answering people's questions.
Living in Round Rock, Thomas Hunt takes the SH 130 toll two or three times a week. In the summer of 2016 he says TxDOT didn't send him bills for two months, putting him behind. When bills finally came in August, they wanted more than $10,000 total.
"I went down to pay and they said, 'well, you knew you took the toll, you should have just paid the bill.' I said 'I didn't get a bill!' They said 'that's not our fault,'" Hunt said.
He hasn't paid the fees since.
"They said you have to pay it all... so I left," said Hunt.
Now, his late fees, like more than two million others, have been waived. For those who have outstanding fees, you won't get a separate notification from TxDOT.
"Fees will not appear on mailed statements, and the fee will be dismissed on our online system in the coming weeks," spokesperson for TxDOT Veronica Beyer, wrote KXAN. "Customers will receive a message at the top of their statement once the fees have been dismissed."

I pay $242/month and that covers almost everything for both of us when combined with “sort of free” Medicare part A. For what will approach $30k (asking price) for both eyes I will be total out of pocket right around $600 + $80 for premium eye drops that nobody covers.
Medicare part A covered -0- of this because I was not in the hospital.

Morning boys, late start at work today, but was out of the door a 7:15 after getting a call at 7:12am.
youngest daughter has my old lexus IS250, and she called from the road, car is dinging at her, and dahboard has enough warning lights lit, to make it look like an Xmas tree. she is in the should of route 20, up in Paterson, and she has to
get to the bus, that she is a chaperone for in Oakland, on it's way to girls scout camp. told her I would swap cars with her, and hung up. She calls back as i am getting into the car, how come you hung up. Told her getting dressed and out into the car seemed a better idea, than just talking to her on the phone. By 7:25 she was on her way again in my VW, and i took the Lexis, over to the place where I bought it. I got dropped off at home, by a service tech, and my wife starts yelling, when am I going to get that car fixed... Get to tell her it was already on it's way back to the service center. previous problem, low tire pressure warning lights.

Asking price was almost $10,000, total paid by insurance was a little under $3000 and my out of pocket was $100.
WTF sense is there in sending $10k bills knowing they are only eligible to collect $3k has always been a total mystery to me.
Sounds like you've got some great insurance. I'm constantly paying out of pocket and my premiums are through the roof. I would need an incurable disease in order to make out on the deal. Lose/lose situation.
Sounds like you got the CommieCare you voted for.
I wish. CommieCare wouldn't cost me $22K/year for not covering anything.
You need to upgrade to ComradeCare. Better package choices. I'll send you a pamphlet.
Do I get a further discount if I make hacking this website easier?
Yeah, Vlad will discount the amount of Thallium he sprinkles on your food.

You sure you want to give up cigars?
-
Morning Dean and Dave. Got to take a road trip this morning, so history and birthdays will be delayed until about noon.
Now where are you going?
Half an hour down the road to the current manufacturing facility.
Reviewing some sterilization records. Just got back.

good morning Dave.
at least post the Thought of the Day, not the Thought of the Afternoon.
Really, now I don't know what to think.
I am sure this Fuk-up will be a real pleasure to fix.
is it a camera system at those toll booths?
Yes but the problem is in their computer system and the morons operating it.
They incorrectly billed over $2 million in bogus toll charges and penalties last year.
And probably managed to collect about $1 million of it. Big bonus and promotion to the incompetent head of the department I'm sure.

Today is Wednesday, July 11, the 192nd day of 2018. There are 173 days left in the year.
Today’s Highlight in History:
On July 11, 1804, Vice President Aaron Burr mortally wounded former Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton during a pistol duel in Weehawken, New Jersey. (Hamilton died the next day.)
On this date:
In 1767, John Quincy Adams, the sixth president of the United States, was born in Braintree, Massachusetts.
In 1798, the U.S. Marine Corps was formally re-established by a congressional act that also created the U.S. Marine Band.
In 1859, Big Ben, the great bell inside the famous London clock tower, chimed for the first time.
In 1937, American composer and pianist George Gershwin died at a Los Angeles hospital of a brain tumor; he was 38.
In 1952, the Republican National Convention, meeting in Chicago, nominated Dwight D. Eisenhower for president and Richard M. Nixon for vice president.
In 1955, the U.S. Air Force Academy swore in its first class of cadets at its temporary quarters at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado.
In 1960, the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee was first published by J.B. Lippincott and Co.
In 1972, the World Chess Championship opened as grandmasters Bobby Fischer of the United States and defending champion Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union began play in Reykjavik, Iceland. (Fischer won after 21 games.)
In 1977, the Presidential Medal of Freedom was presented to polio vaccine pioneer Dr. Jonas Salk and (posthumously) to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. by President Jimmy Carter.
In 1979, the abandoned U.S. space station Skylab made a spectacular return to Earth, burning up in the atmosphere and showering debris over the Indian Ocean and Australia.
In 1991, a Nigeria Airways DC-8 carrying Muslim pilgrims crashed at the Jiddah, Saudi Arabia, international airport, killing all 261 people on board.
In 1995, the U.N.-designated “safe haven” of Srebrenica (sreh-breh-NEET’-sah) in Bosnia-Herzegovina fell to Bosnian Serb forces, who then carried out the killings of more than 8,000 Muslim men and boys. The United States normalized relations with Vietnam.
-
Ten years ago: Oil prices reached a record high of $147.27 a barrel. IndyMac Bank’s assets were seized by federal regulators. A North Korean soldier fatally shot a South Korean tourist at a northern mountain resort, further straining relations between the two Koreas. Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, the cardiovascular surgeon who pioneered such procedures as bypass surgery, died in Houston, Texas, at age 99.
Five years ago: In a potential setback for George Zimmerman, the jury at the neighborhood watch captain’s second-degree murder trial in Sanford, Florida, was given the option of convicting him on the lesser charge of manslaughter in the shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. (Zimmerman ended up being acquitted of all charges.) Tens of thousands of workers across Brazil walked off their jobs in a mostly peaceful nationwide strike, demanding better working conditions and improved public services in Latin America’s largest nation.
One year ago: Emails released by Donald Trump Jr. revealed that he’d been told before meeting with a Russian attorney during the presidential campaign that the Russian government had information that could “incriminate” Hillary Clinton. MSNBC “Morning Joe” host and former Republican congressman Joe Scarborough announced that he was leaving the Republican party, partly because of its loyalty to President Donald Trump. Seattle’s Robinson Cano homered off Cubs closer Wade Davis leading off the 10th inning and the American League beat the National League 2-1 in the All-Star game.

Hell no, I didn't take it to lexus, brought it back to the used car dealer, I've dealt
with over the years. It wasn't a low tire pressure alert, but the system that measures it that went
south this time, which caused two more lights to come on,and the bells ringing. Plus the Check engine soon message.

On July 11, 1804, Vice President Aaron Burr mortally wounded former Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton during a pistol duel in Weehawken, New Jersey. (Hamilton died the next day.)
I think we should bring dueling back.
On this date:
In 1977, the Presidential Medal of Freedom was presented to polio vaccine pioneer Dr. Jonas Salk...
And no mention of Henrietta Lacks.
I'm going to lunch. Talk amongst yourselves.
I can think of 2 reasons why the black woman is rarely mentioned.
But to put things in context, tissue removed from most patients was regularly used in research (unless you asked to take it home in a doggie bag... ::) ) It just happened that her cells performed amazingly in vitro. There was never a consideration initially for commercial application.
All of which, while mostly true, is not the reason why she is not a household name.
I would say with the book and the Oprah movie, she IS pretty much a household name.
Not in my household
You don't know who Oprah is?
Yes but her name is not used in my household

Took my cue from BostonDave and sparked a DPG Blue in the work man cave.
Wish I had one with me. I'm sure I have something worth smoking. I'll keep you posted.
And with all that fine scenery that will just wonder who that worldly gentleman is who passed them smoking a cigar! :o
Way too damn hot to smoke here this afternoon but I did have one of those MOW Armada Coronas this morning. Very good smoke too.

Apparently they are still somewhat randomly made and not often found. Could kick my arse for not buying more at that deal.

2nd one of these I've smoked. I still like it much better than AJ's Monte, RyJ and H. Upmann. The prominent flavors are roasted nuts, and black pepper. It's also very woodsy.
