Mmmmm.
Very nice. Did you make the pie too?
no, found it at a farmer's market.
Sure did look good. I think I'm hungry.

Finally made it home. Time to see what's for dinner.
Wound up making a mushroom risotto.

So if you're good at risotto, you can make me squid ink risotto stuffed calamari for my birthday...
I would absolutely love that. Never tried making it but may have to give it a shot. But I think the lead was buried here... Should we be wishing you a happy birthday?!?

They don't allow smoking on the roof, which I thought was a little weak. You're out in the open air, what the hell is the difference? But what do I know?

Today is Friday, June 22, the 173rd day of 2018. There are 192 days left in the year.
Today's Highlight in History:
On June 22, 1918, a train carrying members of the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus and their families was rear-ended during an emergency stop by another train near Hammond, Indiana, killing at least 86 people aboard the circus train.
On this date:
In 1611, English explorer Henry Hudson, his son and several other people were set adrift in present-day Hudson Bay by mutineers aboard the Discovery.
In 1868, Arkansas, which had seceded in 1861, was re-admitted to the Union.
In 1911, Britain's King George V was crowned at Westminster Abbey.
In 1937, Joe Louis began his reign as world heavyweight boxing champion by knocking out Jim Braddock in the eighth round of their fight in Chicago. (A year later on this date, Louis knocked out Max Schmeling in the first round of their rematch at Yankee Stadium.)
In 1940, during World War II, Adolf Hitler gained a stunning victory as France was forced to sign an armistice eight days after German forces overran Paris.
In 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, more popularly known as the "GI Bill of Rights."
In 1945, the World War II battle for Okinawa ended with an Allied victory.
In 1969, singer-actress Judy Garland died in London at age 47.
In 1977, John N. Mitchell became the first former U.S. Attorney General to go to prison as he began serving a sentence for his role in the Watergate cover-up. (He was released 19 months later.)
In 1988, gay rights activist Leonard Matlovich, discharged from the U.S. Air Force because of his homosexuality, died at age 44. Singer Dennis Day, Jack Benny's sidekick, died at age 72.
In 1993, former first lady Pat Nixon died in Park Ridge, New Jersey, at age 81.
In 2012, ex-Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was convicted by a jury in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, on 45 counts of sexually assaulting 10 boys over 15 years. (Sandusky is appealing a 30- to 60-year state prison sentence.)

Ten years ago: Zimbabwe's opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai (SVAHNG'-ur-eye), withdrew from a presidential runoff against Robert Mugabe. Acerbic standup comedian and satirist George Carlin died in Santa, Monica, California, at age 71. Comedian Dody Goodman died in Englewood, New Jersey, at age 93.

Five years ago: Islamic militants disguised as policemen killed 10 foreign climbers and a Pakistani guide in a brazen overnight raid at the base camp of Nanga Parbat, saying it was to avenge the death of their deputy leader in a U.S. drone strike. A plane carrying a wing walker crashed at an air show near Dayton, Ohio, killing both the pilot, Charlie Schwenker, and the stunt performer, Jane Wicker.

One year ago: An online conspiracy theory dubbed "pizzagate" ended with real-world consequences as a North Carolina man was sentenced to four years in prison for firing an assault rifle inside Comet Ping Pong, a Washington, D.C. pizza restaurant. California officials denied parole for convicted killer Patricia Krenwinkel, a follower of cult leader Charles Manson, for the 1969 slayings of pregnant actress Sharon Tate and four other people. The Philadelphia 76ers selected guard Markelle Fultz with the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft.

I could, however, there's really nothing for me to do but cheer everyone on. So it's a matter of optics. As the new supervisor, it looks good if I'm so committed to the success of this data conversion that I drive in on a Saturday to "supervise" it.

Morning, muchachos.
Good morning, Bret. What's on the agenda for this weekend?
Supposed to be at a shooting match. But looks like I'm going to be at work half the day tomorrow.
Sorry to hear it. Can you work remotely, at least?
I could, however, there's really nothing for me to do but cheer everyone on. So it's a matter of optics. As the new supervisor, it looks good if I'm so committed to the success of this data conversion that I drive in on a Saturday to "supervise" it.

Go team.
Ahhhhh. Understood.
I think I'll bring donuts, just to piss in everyone's Wheaties. Everyone associated with this, including my technical lead who's doing the conversion work, are health nuts.
Everyone needs comfort food when working weekends.

Something new lit up, TAA Edition FdLA Sun Grown Lancero

Waiting on baseball to start at 3:00.
That sounds like a winner. Looking forward to a cigar in about 60 minutes. May go for the Montecristo New York Connoisseur Edition. I'm not a big Monte fan but I bought one of each, New York and Las Vegas.

A rare sensible court ruling, and one that kicks the commie city of Austin right in the nuts!

Backing businesses over environmentalists, the Texas Supreme Court on Friday said cities like Austin may not ban retailers from providing customers with disposable bags at the checkout counter.

In a unanimous ruling, the state’s highest civil court said bag bans run afoul of a state law that prohibits cities from trying to reduce waste by banning “containers” and “packages.” Although the terms are not defined in the law, their plain meaning must be read to include bags under the prohibition, the court ruled.

Here's the write-up on it...

Montecristo New York Connoisseur Edition was blended with New York in mind. The packaging is first-class, with individual slots, retaining the cigar’s sharp box-press shape. A clean and refined black box is highlighted with New York imagery. But the real star is the blend. Using an ultra-premium Ecuadoran Habano wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Dominican fillers, it is a blend that has won over locals for years. Now it can be a part of your collection, anywhere in the world!

We cook cheese ravioli with a light red sauce on a regular basis and it is very good.  Personally though, as a general rule I am not a big fan of white sauces over pastas other than an Alfredo sauce once in a while.

I take that back. It appears only the New York comes in 2 sizes. But because it's box pressed, I didn't realize it was a 6x60. Seems smaller.

Supposedly the one on the left is a 60RG and on the right is a 54RG. The New York feels like a 48RG to me. Didn't think a box press would change it that drastically.

Speaking of fubar, I'm feeling like this was a waste of money. Turns out the cigar is green. One dimensional and I'm getting ammonia notes. Something tells me down time will improve it but not enough to be worth it.

No, we purchased a small house a while back and are living there while the from scratch house is constructed.  It's a long story involving extenuating familial circumstances.
