As always the dumbasses in the Austin area suckered for the School District Taxes voting for a $1 Billion bond issue for Austin ISD and a $1/4 billion in Lake Travis ISD (my old district).  INSANITY!

Travis County Voters never met a tax they did not like.

Today is Wednesday, Nov. 8, the 312th day of 2017. There are 53 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On Nov. 8, 2016, Republican Donald Trump was elected America's 45th president, defeating Democrat Hillary Clinton in an astonishing victory for a celebrity businessman and political novice. Republicans kept their majorities in the Senate and House.

On this date:

In 1793, the Louvre began admitting the public, even though the French museum had been officially open since August.

In 1889, Montana became the 41st state.

In 1892, former President Cleveland defeated incumbent Benjamin Harrison, becoming the first (and, to date, only) chief executive to win non-consecutive terms to the White House.

In 1923, Adolf Hitler launched his first attempt at seizing power in Germany with a failed coup in Munich that came to be known as the "Beer-Hall Putsch."

In 1932, New York Democratic Gov. Franklin D. Roosevelt defeated incumbent Republican Herbert Hoover for the presidency.

In 1942, Operation Torch, resulting in an Allied victory, began during World War II as U.S. and British forces landed in French North Africa.

In 1950, during the Korean War, the first jet-plane battle took place as U.S. Air Force Lt. Russell J. Brown shot down a North Korean MiG-15.

In 1960, Massachusetts Sen. John F. Kennedy defeated Vice President Richard M. Nixon for the presidency.

In 1974, a federal judge in Cleveland dismissed charges against eight Ohio National Guardsmen accused of violating the civil rights of students who were killed or wounded in the 1970 Kent State shootings.

In 1987, 11 people were killed when an Irish Republican Army bomb exploded as crowds gathered in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, for a ceremony honoring Britain's war dead.

In 1988, Vice President George H.W. Bush won the presidential election, defeating the Democratic nominee, Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis.

In 1994, midterm elections resulted in Republicans winning a majority in the Senate while at the same time gaining control of the House for the first time in 40 years.

Ten years ago: The Senate confirmed President George W. Bush's nomination of Michael Mukasey to be attorney general, 53-40. President Bush suffered the first veto override of his seven-year-old presidency as the Senate enacted, 79-14, a $23 billion water resources bill despite his protest that it was filled with unnecessary projects. Dominican singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra swept the Latin Grammy Awards, taking home five musical honors including album of the year, record of the year and song of the year.

Five years ago: Jared Lee Loughner was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the January 2011 shootings in Tucson, Arizona, that killed six people and wounded 13 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Longtime baseball executive and Hall of Famer Lee MacPhail, 95, died in Delray Beach, Florida.

One year ago: Democrat Zena Stephens of Jefferson County made history upon her election as the first black woman sheriff in Texas.

Earlier this year Cigars International, the world’s largest cigar retailer, upgraded its IT infrastructure including its enterprise resource planning (ERP) and warehouse management system. The implementation did not go well as customers were placing orders that the retailer was not seeing and as such not fulfilling.

The issues caused STG to downgrade its financial guidance in May.

Overall, the company’s revenue is down 2.6 percent year to date, while EBITDA is down 7.5 percent. The May announcement indicated the company expected EBITDA to show 4-8 percent negative growth for the year, compared to the company’s original expectation of 1-3 percent.

The company says the issues “have been stabilized, whereby the customer service is improving and the focus is now on customer acquisitions, win-back campaigns, inventory availability and increased productivity.”

However, STG says the new systems have not yet achieved their expected cost savings and the customer outreach efforts, including discounts and free shipping, are hurting its bottom line.

“The negative price/mix of 1.0 % for the category was driven by both General Cigar as well as Cigars International. Price increases in the branded business were not enough to compensate for mix changes, and special discounts and promotional activities in Cigars International continued to dilute the price/mix impact for the category, although to a smaller extent than in the previous quarters.”

Nice!  how was your dinner last night?
great. 31 people, tons of food. one member cooked a HUGE brisket, dropped it off and left, he wasn't feeling well. that was the first to disappear. three pots of chili, mac and cheese, sausage and peppers, all kinds of pasta salads, and desserts. very little left over.
Wow!  sounds pretty damn good to me!

Cigarpage has quite the offering of non-PC T-shirts.  Can't say I would consider wearing most of them in public....or private.

But you can't hear the fat lady sing with that Jap Aviator Hat on.
Jap Aviator????   Nah, that's a Canadian everyday topper.
That is an aviator or bomber style hat as used in WWI and WWII, thus they are referred to them in  script as bombers not Canadian Toppers.   Back in the pre-PC days all the kids called them Jap Aviator Hats.

we had a city holiday yesterday (politicians want city employees to vote on Election day!), so I stopped
for a 2nd time at a new Asian fusion restaurant.  First time I went, I asked for iced green tea, they said they don't
have that.  I asked, do you serve hot green tea? they replied yes, Can you bring me a large glass filled w/ ice?
Again yes, told them, then yes bring me those two things, and I can make iced green tea.  Years ago, a sushi place
out in Parsippany, had the same answers.  They were amazed as well.  but the next time I went, they brought me
a large pitcher filled with ice, and the pot of hot tea, as well as a tall empty glass.  Short answer, i prefer my coffee,
either iced or tepid.  sometimes i will take ice cubes from a glass of water, and stir them into the hot coffee.  When a waitress
comes by and wants to know if she should top off my coffee cup to make it hot again, i usually ask that they please don't.
Got the girls at Tim Horton's to put a few ice cubes in my coffee cup, before they pour it.

comes by and wants to know if she should top off my coffee cup to make it hot again, i usually ask that they please don't.
Got the girls at Tim Horton's to put a few ice cubes in my coffee cup, before they pour it.
So adding ice to a hot drink makes it cold.  Got it.
But adding a hot drink to ice makes it warm, go figger ???
Actually the term is "tepid" per Professor VitaFlip, though the Tim Horton girls would like return an even blanker stare at that request.
Well Tim Hortons is Canadian so who cares anyway, also VERY overrated

Good morning Sam.  Good to have you drop in while the coffee is still fresh.
funny you would mention that, was out of my office for, evidently, longer than I thought, got back here and took a nice big swig of cold coffee... that's just plain nasty.  have NEVER seen the appeal of iced coffee.
+1 on that iced coffee concept!
I do enjoy me an iced Cafe Americano on a hot day.  My daughter always drinks her coffee iced.
I like my coffee, like my women. On ice, with no sugar - that's right, cold & bitter!
That may be what's been served, but do you actually like it that way?
we had a city holiday yesterday (politicians want city employees to vote on Election day!), so I stopped
for a 2nd time at a new Asian fusion restaurant.
Short answer, i prefer my coffee,

they(Tim Horton's) replaced the Dunkin Donuts in Penn Station, but one came back, at another area, plus
there is a Krispy Kreme donuts as well.  there are also two Zaro's bakeries in Penn station, at different ends of the
same floor.

That is pretty cool but just to be safe (both you and the old gun) I would have it checked over by a qualified gunsmith before firing it then get some fresh ammo to use.

Hmmm, seems like we were told that would be done by now, and someone here said it wouldn't happen, add two weeks.

You were never told that because we never had a date given until today, we just got a fabrication date last week.

We don't serve iced green tea!  Sure you do, some assembly required!
Charge triple for it.

No bur with the countertop folks we ended up going with, so far they have pretty much met expectations based on what they told us.  Unfortunately all of the decent granite fabricators here are backed up a month or more.

Bur is with the contractor doing paint, electrical and carpenter work, now he has caused huge delays even considering we knew at the beginning he was slow.  He has also been a huge pain in the ass!  He did one item yesterday morning and has one more to go which might take 15 minutes if he would just come do it, seems like he would be rushing to do that since I am holding back 25% of his money until he is finished.

Be sure to follow CarolinaDave's advice and get it checked/reconditioned by a reputable gunsmith before going full blazes.
