"God Bless the USA" - Singer Lee Greenwood born in Sacramento, CA  is 75

26th President of the United States - Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt born in New York, NY died in 1919 and would be 159 today

Morning Mayor T, sounded like you were having a nice evening despite the LaNox dud.  Never ran across one in the LaNox line yet but I have found an occasional dud in most of the premium lines I smoke regularly.  Every roller has a bad day I guess, probably "Monday Cigars" for them.

Got to get moving early today, time to take the dogs out then I have to be at the new place by 8:30 for the flooring folks to get started.

They fixed the subfloor problem under the removed tile yesterday afternoon at no extra charge.

My thoughts precisely. In theory, I could have said something to the store manager and have it replaced. I was more pissed at myself for not saving the Las Calaveras for last because that was a great stick.

I'm surprised that they don't find the issue sooner. Although I wonder if sales are so low during the night that they are alerted and don't bother with it until the next morning.

Today is Friday, Oct. 27, the 300th day of 2017. There are 65 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On Oct. 27, 1947, "You Bet Your Life," a comedy quiz show starring Groucho Marx, premiered on ABC Radio. (It later became a television show on NBC.)

On this date:

In 1787, the first of the Federalist Papers, a series of essays calling for ratification of the United States Constitution, was published.

In 1858, the 26th president of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, was born in New York City.

In 1880, Theodore Roosevelt married his first wife, Alice Lee.

In 1886 (New Style date), the musical fantasy "A Night on Bald Mountain," written by Modest Mussorgsky (MOH'-dest muh-SAWRG'-skee) and revised after his death by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, was performed in St. Petersburg, Russia.

In 1922, the first annual celebration of Navy Day took place.

In 1938, Du Pont announced a name for its new synthetic yarn: "nylon."

In 1954, U.S. Air Force Col. Benjamin O. Davis Jr. was promoted to brigadier general, the first black officer to achieve that rank in the USAF. Walt Disney's first television program, titled "Disneyland" after the yet-to-be completed theme park, premiered on ABC.

In 1962, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, a U-2 reconnaissance aircraft was shot down while flying over Cuba, killing the pilot, U.S. Air Force Maj. Rudolf Anderson Jr.

In 1978, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin (men-AH'-kem BAY'-gihn) were named winners of the Nobel Peace Prize for their progress toward achieving a Middle East accord.

In 1980, opera star Beverly Sills gave her last public performance during a farewell gala at New York's Lincoln Center.

In 1992, Petty Officer Allen Schindler, a gay U.S. Navy sailor, was beaten to death near Sasebo Naval Base in southwestern Japan by shipmate Terry Helvey, who pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison.

In 2004, the Boston Red Sox won their first World Series since 1918, sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4, 3-0.

Ten years ago: Despite significant dissent in the ranks, United Auto Workers members narrowly passed a four-year contract agreement with Chrysler LLC. The Boston Red Sox took a 3-0 World Series lead with a 10-5 win over the Colorado Rockies in Denver.

Five years ago: The eastern United States braced for high winds, torrential rains, power outages and even snow from Hurricane Sandy, which was headed north from the Caribbean toward a merger with two wintry weather systems. The San Francisco Giants, with a 2-0 victory, took a three-games-to-none lead in the World Series against the Detroit Tigers.

One year ago: A jury in Portland, Oregon, delivered an extraordinary blow to the government in a long-running battle over the use of public lands when it acquitted all seven defendants, including group leader Ammon Bundy, who were involved in the armed occupation of a national wildlife refuge in 2014. Law enforcement officers dressed in riot gear evicted protesters from private land in the path of the Dakota Access oil pipeline, dramatically escalating a monthslong dispute over Native American rights and the project's environmental impact. Twitter announced it was cutting about 9 percent of its employees worldwide.

Good morning Daves and Tony. Lady going in for surgery this morning. Just waiting for a call from the doctor about when, probably 8:30 or 9:30. She's having the Burst DR trial installed to ease pain. If it works during the 2 week trial period, one goes in permanently.

But the citizens have the right to know whether anyone else likes it or not, most of it should have been released long before now.  Not likely to be anything too startling anyway.

I like them a lot and yes there was but a while back was close to a year or more.  I am not like Bean and don't keep an excel diary of what I buy because I don't have to submit monthly cigar expense reports like he does  but it was like 10/$38-40ish for coronas I think, I bought quite a few.  I can't even remember where I got them.

WTF else you got to do on a conference call?
Good point, but call only lasted about 20 minutes.  Could have been 10 minutes if the douchebag could just get to the point.

Pfffft.  $250 and costs.  That doesn't even amount to his nightly stripper budget.

No.  El Diario Kill Bill and Black Label.  And I ordered two 10'ers, so $3.75 ea after coupon.  Haven't tried the Mr. Sam. We need ClemsonDave to advise us.

5'rs of pretty much everything they sell at the Page today,  might gut be a decent offer or two on something you need but takes a while to go through them.
That's just too long a list to scroll through looking for a deal.
Not only do we demand best prices and free shipping, it must be convenient as well!

Mr. Sam is probably the best of the La Palina line IMHO.  Great burn characteristics and solid flavors.  Not necessarily my personal preferred flavor profile, or I would smoke them more. I'v'e only had the robusto, which I think was the only size originally. KB is a potent little sucker.  Nice when you want to go full but don't have much time.  Goldie is the other that I enjoy a lot.  Haven't had the Black Label.

More recent La Palina offerings seem to be more for mass market or playing off of the rep of the ones mentioned above.  Construction is still good, but seem to be more of generic cigar taste that doesn't support the higher end pricing like Red Label and Nicaragua.

Two years ago I bought three 10'ers of various sizes from the sis at $5 ea and applied a $25 coupon, came to about $4 ea.  You and I were going to a split but never got together, and I ended up smoking through most of them.
But there were no Mr Sams included in those were there?
No.  El Diario Kill Bill and Black Label.  And I ordered two 10'ers, so $3.75 ea after coupon.  Haven't tried the Mr. Sam. We need ClemsonDave to advise us.
Somebody mention Sam?
how's it going all?
Wow. Hiya, Sam. How've you been?
Hey Tony!  Been ok thanks!  was a crazy busy summer.  how are you making out?  family ok?

Etoufee was great, just had a couple of beers before dinner since I had to drive home.  Passed a big wreck with one turned over in the road when we were coming home.

/that makes good sense. I do my best drinking at home anyway and where else can you smoke a cigar today. Thankfully I can smoke in my study at home and the back lanai and front porch. Works wonderfully.

If you don't know the history of the red bandana, it shouldn't be forgotten!

I can never watch this without a tissue or two...
