It's Tuesday again! In between insults we'll occasionally discuss cigars.  Join in and perhaps learn something along the way. Warning: don't proceed if you have thin skin but don't be afraid to post either... And welcome aboard!

Morning, muchachos. Just going to bed. Was a good evening, over La Palinas and Padrons and a bunch of whiskey.  Life is good. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170919/8a9b216d5c4915f6f7deed7bf393f3f1.jpg)

Cat-5 Hurricane Maria seems to be edging North with the 5 day forecast reducing the likelihood of a Mainland U.S. but the East Coast is certainly not out of the words yet.  Meanwhile the Island of Dominica was flattened by Maria overnight.

Today is Tuesday, Sept. 19, the 262nd day of 2017. There are 103 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On September 19, 1777, the first Battle of Saratoga was fought during the Revolutionary War; although British forces succeeded in driving out the American troops, the Americans prevailed in a second battle the following month.

On this date:

In 1796, President George Washington's farewell address was published. In it, America's first chief executive advised, "Observe good faith and justice toward all nations. Cultivate peace and harmony with all."

In 1881, the 20th president of the United States, James A. Garfield, died 2½ months after being shot by Charles Guiteau; Chester Alan Arthur became president.

In 1915, vaudeville performer W.C. Fields made his movie debut as "Pool Sharks," a one-reel silent comedy, was released.

In 1934, Bruno Hauptmann was arrested in New York and charged with the kidnap-murder of Charles A. Lindbergh Jr.

In 1945, Nazi radio propagandist William Joyce, known as "Lord Haw-Haw," was convicted of treason and sentenced to death by a British court.

In 1957, the United States conducted its first contained underground nuclear test, code-named "Rainier," in the Nevada desert.

In 1959, Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, in Los Angeles as part of his U.S. tour, reacted angrily upon being told that, for security reasons, he wouldn't get to visit Disneyland.

In 1960, Cuban leader Fidel Castro, in New York to visit the United Nations, angrily checked out of the Shelburne Hotel in a dispute with the management; Castro ended up staying at the Hotel Theresa in Harlem.

In 1970, the "Mary Tyler Moore" show debuted on CBS-TV.

In 1982, the smiley emoticon was invented by Carnegie Mellon University professor Scott E. Fahlman, who suggested punctuating humorously intended computer messages with a colon followed by a hyphen and a parenthesis as a horizontal "smiley face." :-)

In 1985, the Mexico City area was struck by a devastating earthquake that killed at least 9,500 people.

In 1997, in his first public comments since the death of Princess Diana, Prince Charles told the British people he would always feel the loss of his former wife, and thanked them for their support. Six people were killed when an express passenger train and a freight train collided in west London. The crime drama "L.A. Confidential" was released by Warner Bros.

Ten years ago: The Senate blocked legislation that would have regulated the amount of time troops spent in combat, a blow for Democrats struggling to challenge President George W. Bush's Iraq policies. A powerful bomb killed anti-Syria lawmaker Antoine Ghanem and six others in Beirut, Lebanon.

Five years ago: Members of Congress presented the Congressional Gold Medal to Myanmar democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi (ahng sahn soo chee) in a ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda. The Justice Department's internal watchdog found fault with the agency's handling of a gun-trafficking probe in Arizona that resulted in hundreds of weapons turning up at crime scenes in the U.S. and Mexico; the inspector general's report referred more than a dozen people for possible disciplinary action for their roles in Operation Fast and Furious. The Windseeker ride at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, broke down, leaving about 20 riders dangling 300 feet over the amusement park for nearly four hours. Fred Couples was elected into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

One year ago: President Barack Obama and Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi (HY'-dahr ahl ah-BAH'-dee), meeting on the sidelines of a United Nations summit, put the Islamic State group on notice that they planned to recapture the city of Mosul within months. World leaders meeting at the United Nations approved a declaration aimed at providing a more coordinated and humane response to the refugee crisis that was straining resources and stoking divisions around the world. Angelina Jolie Pitt filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, citing irreconcilable differences.

The contractor for the condo is funny as hell to me, I swear he could double for Rodney Dangerfield in any performance.  When around him I think I am in a Caddy Shack movie.

But the boy, his FIL and BIL have all used him extensively and he does great work at reasonable prices just a little slow.  He will be doing everything except the granite countertops.

I think he likes sipping a little too much is why he is slow. ;)

I think he likes sipping a little too much is why he is slow. ;)
Construction maxim:  You can have it good, fast, or cheap.  Pick any two.
Indeed, if you can possibly even get 2 you are ahead of the game

For clarification, I was already on the call and waiting for everyone to join. 3 minutes after is when we actually got started. So GFY!

Actually there are far worse things than either a meeting or a conference call!  Sometime in the next few days I have to go to the paint store with the warden and an interior designer.
If it's anything like our house project you won't be on speaking terms for three days afterward.  Not sure if that's good or bad.
Not speaking to me is always a good thing.  I envy those husbands that just don't give a chit what things in the house look like.
You sometimes have to let the lady preside over a design decision here and there.  Not the man-cave,
no one want lace tablecloths under the cigar ashtrays.  But if you let them have the master bedroom, the way
they want it, sometimes you get what you want in that room.

I'm always allowed to smoke on my deck, if the warden is not on it.
She knows that the American Legion allows smoking and is two minutes away...
so she encourages me to go there.  Watching football, enjoying a cigar and a cold beer, with the other guys
is fun.  It's all how you approach the problem. Like going out to karaoke, I ask, "would you like to fool around,
or should I go to karaoke?"  she replies, take your sweater, it looks cold out....

GFY!

FYI, I told the decorator I do not want anything that even resembles a Chip & Joanna theme.  She laughed and said more people should think that way!
You're going to go with Haint Blue porch ceilings though, right?
No, not right.

celebratory cigar. I move in the 2nd.
Get to packing!   But when you get there wait 6 months to unpack so you don't have to do it all over again to move. ;)
Speaking of packing and unpacking.....all of your cigars are still in Texas....did you leave Bean a key to the locker?
Not quite all, I brought one tub with me which as a matter of fact I raided today to restock my desktop humi here at the temporary palace.  Bean and Key don't rhyme😂

Boy's warden is going to a hen party tomorrow night and we might go to bourbon and Burnz or he may come over here for cigars and libations.    Hope his mother does not have to drive him home  :o

Puerto Rico does not yet have water and electric service after Irma and now they are likely going to get a direct hit from Maria.  Guess the American taxpayers will be sending them a $billion or two more for the politicians to steal.

And about 2 miles down the road from me in the Market Commons development that would be quite appropriate but in my Mediterranean style condo it would be highly innapropriate.

Maria's minimum central pressure Tuesday evening is the lowest for any Atlantic hurricane since Dean in August 2007.
