Amtrak cops jolt man with stun gun amid long NJ Transit delays

Pandemonium erupted at Penn Station Friday after Amtrak police used a stun gun on an unruly man — sending scared riders scrambling for safety.
The transit hub was unusually crowded at rush hour thanks to an NJ Transit train that stalled in a tunnel earlier, causing massive delays to kick off the holiday weekend.

Today is Saturday, April 15, the 105th day of 2017. There are 260 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson, baseball's first black major league player, made his official debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers on opening day at Ebbets Field. (The Dodgers defeated the Boston Braves, 5-3.)

On this date:

In 1817, America's oldest existing school for the deaf opened in Hartford, Connecticut.

In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln died nine hours after being shot the night before by John Wilkes Booth at Ford's Theater in Washington; Andrew Johnson became the nation's 17th president.

In 1892, General Electric Co., formed by the merger of the Edison Electric Light Co. and other firms, was incorporated in Schenectady, New York.

In 1912, the British luxury liner RMS Titanic foundered in the North Atlantic off Newfoundland more than 2 1/2 hours after hitting an iceberg; 1,514 people died, while less than half as many survived.

In 1920, a paymaster and a guard were shot and killed during a robbery at a shoe company in South Braintree, Massachusetts; Italian immigrants Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were accused of the crime, convicted and executed amid worldwide protests that they hadn't received a fair trial.

In 1945, during World War II, British and Canadian troops liberated the Nazi concentration camp Bergen-Belsen. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who had died on April 12, was buried at the Roosevelt family home in Hyde Park, New York.

In 1959, Cuban leader Fidel Castro arrived in Washington to begin a goodwill tour of the United States. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles resigned for health reasons (he was succeeded by Christian A. Herter).

In 1974, members of the Symbionese Liberation Army held up a branch of the Hibernia Bank in San Francisco; a member of the group was SLA kidnap victim Patricia Hearst, who by this time was going by the name "Tania" (Hearst later said she'd been forced to participate).

In 1989, 96 people died in a crush of soccer fans at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, England. Students in Beijing launched a series of pro-democracy protests; the demonstrations culminated in a government crackdown at Tiananmen Square.

In 1997, Jackie Robinson's number 42 was retired 50 years after he became the first black player in major league baseball.

In 2002, retired Supreme Court Justice Byron R. White died at age 84.

In 2013, two bombs exploded at the Boston Marathon finish line, killing two women and an 8-year-old boy and injuring more than 260. (Suspected bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev (TAM'-ehr-luhn tsahr-NEYE'-ehv) died in a shootout with police; his brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR' tsahr-NEYE'-ehv), was tried, convicted and sentenced to death.)

Ten years ago: Riot police beat and detained dozens of anti-Kremlin demonstrators in St. Petersburg, Russia, on a second day of protests against the government of President Vladimir Putin. Brant Parker, the original illustrator of "The Wizard of Id" comic strip, died in Lynchburg, Virginia, at age 86, just days after the passing of the strip's writer, Johnny Hart.

Five years ago: Six people were killed by a tornado in the Woodward, Oklahoma, area. North Korea's new leader, Kim Jong Un, gave his first public speech since taking power upon death of his father, Kim Jong Il, the previous December, portraying himself as a strong military chief unafraid of foreign powers. Passengers and crew of the cruise ship MS Balmoral said prayers at the spot in the North Atlantic where the Titanic sank 100 years earlier.

One year ago: House Republicans departed Washington, having missed a deadline to pass their long-stalled budget in an embarrassment for House Speaker Paul Ryan. A North Korea missile launch meant to celebrate the birthday of the country's founder, Kim Il Sung, apparently ended in failure.

a lot of crazy boaters out yesterday. wasn't bad in the morning but by early afternoon I think everyone and their mother was on the water. on the way back getting gas a girl was complaining that she got a ticket for something and her boyfriend was ticketed for speeding and arrested for DWI/BWI. they impounded his boat. she said he was 'just trying it out' and didn't know they had police on the water. it was Game and Wildlife that probably got them. I kept my mouth shut but chuckled at their stupidity.

That would definitely qualify as Class AAA stupidity.

we had just come onto the beach on the way back and a guy from Ohio wanted to put in from that little stretch of beach. I told him it was frowned upon and stays too shallow, but not being posted he tried. nobody moved out of his way and he finally got in where the water was above his SUV's wheelwells before he could launch his boat, but last I saw before I left was his SUV canted at about a 45° angle.

Morning CarolinaDave and Mr. Lacrosse.
Why is he CarolinaDave, he lives in Texas?
Just helping with the transition.
Like Tony's job, he ain't there til he's there.
True. Anything can happen between now and then.

Edit: By the way, my background check is in progress so it'll be any day now.

So I shouldn't post any anti-UN screeds here for a couple weeks?

Afternoon, all! Long time, no talk!

Mexico trip was fun. Enjoyed lots of cigars with my buddy from Canada. There were plenty of cigar shops shilling the fake Cubans for EXORBITANT prices. I poked into a couple shops merely to have a looky-loo. It's amazing how this guys try to hustle by selling crap at stupid prices. Of course, I politely declined their offers, having brought a hefty stash of my own. :)

Looks like the banter over at CI has now totally disappeared. Of course, that appears to have been a work in progress for some time, which was nearly complete with the advent of the FB plugin.

Has traffic over here picked up?

Hope all you guys have been well!  :D

Afternoon Shank, good to hear from you.  Thought maybe the cartels captured you in Mexico.

Great Cigar deals have pretty much crapped out, very little buying around here over the past 3 or 4 months.

Traffick has continued to decline most days and some of that is probably due to the lack of cigar deals.

I sold my house and plan on moving to SC July or August.

Welcome back Shank.  Good to hear you had a good trip.  Always good to bring your own supply, and avoid the fake crap.  Most of those remaining at CI banter couldn't quite bring themselves to move over here for a number of reasons that we don't need to get into.

Nonsense?

Windows consumers woke up on Saturday to some good news: Microsoft says it has already patched a series of potentially catastrophic hacks, published on Good Friday by the hacker group known as the Shadow Brokers.

The hacks amounted to vulnerabilities in Microsoft software that let intruders take over machines running Windows software. The vulnerabilities had been discovered and used by the NSA, but the Shadow Brokers (a group widely believed to be a front for the Russian government) stole the NSA files, and has been publishing them in a series of blog posts.

Got a good price but definitely not a bandit.  But, literally someone knocked on the door and bought the house, cash buyer from San Francisco area.

We are leasing the house back until the end of July.
