It's Tuesday again! In between insults we'll occasionally discuss cigars.  Join in and perhaps learn something along the way. Warning: don't proceed if you have thin skin but don't be afraid to post either... And welcome aboard!

FWIW, got my shipping confirmation e-mail from the sis. Guess the deal of the day was truly a deal.
Me too.  Sure was an interesting one!
I was worried because I hadn't gotten mine. It just now arrived.

Today is Tuesday, April 11, the 101st day of 2017. There are 264 days left in the year.

Today's Highlights in History:

On April 11, 1947, Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers played in an exhibition against the New York Yankees at Ebbets Field, four days before his regular-season debut that broke baseball's color line. (The Dodgers won, 14-6.) "Monsieur Verdoux," Charlie Chaplin's dark comedy about a Bluebeard-like figure, received a hostile reception at its premiere in New York.

On this date:

In 1689, William III and Mary II were crowned as joint sovereigns of Britain.

In 1713, the Treaty of Utrecht was signed, ending the War of the Spanish Succession.

In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln spoke to a crowd outside the White House, saying, "We meet this evening, not in sorrow, but in gladness of heart." (It was the last public address Lincoln would deliver.)

In 1921, Iowa became the first state to impose a cigarette tax, at 2 cents a package.

In 1945, during World War II, American soldiers liberated the Nazi concentration camp Buchenwald in Germany.

In 1951, President Harry S. Truman relieved Gen. Douglas MacArthur of his commands in the Far East.

In 1965, dozens of tornadoes raked six Midwestern states on Palm Sunday, killing 271 people.

In 1970, Apollo 13, with astronauts James A. Lovell, Fred W. Haise and Jack Swigert, blasted off on its ill-fated mission to the moon.

In 1979, Idi Amin was deposed as president of Uganda as rebels and exiles backed by Tanzanian (tan-zuh-NEE'-uhn) forces seized control.

In 1980, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission issued regulations specifically prohibiting sexual harassment of workers by supervisors.

In 1981, President Ronald Reagan returned to the White House from the hospital, 12 days after he was wounded in an assassination attempt. Race-related rioting erupted in the Brixton district of south London.

In 1996, 7-year-old Jessica Dubroff, who'd hoped to become the youngest person to fly cross-country, was killed along with her father and flight instructor when her plane crashed after takeoff from Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Ten years ago: North Carolina's top prosecutor dropped all charges against three former Duke University lacrosse players accused of sexually assaulting a stripper at a party, saying the athletes were innocent victims of a "tragic rush to accuse." MSNBC announced it was dropping its simulcast of the "Imus in the Morning" radio program, responding to growing outrage over host Don Imus' on-air reference to the Rutgers women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos." (CBS Radio followed suit the next day.) Death claimed author Kurt Vonnegut in New York at age 84 and actor Roscoe Lee Browne in Los Angeles at age 84.

Five years ago: George Zimmerman, the Florida neighborhood watch volunteer who fatally shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. (He was acquitted at trial.) A California prison panel denied parole to mass murderer Charles Manson in his 12th bid for freedom. A University of California task force said that UC Davis police should not have used pepper-spray on student demonstrators in an incident that prompted national outrage. Algeria's first president, Ahmed Ben Bella, 95, died in Algiers.

One year ago: Secretary of State John Kerry visited the memorial to Hiroshima's atomic bombing, delivering a message of peace and hope for a nuclear-free world. Nationally syndicated radio host Doug Banks, a longtime fixture in Chicago radio and television, died at 57.

Just gifted them.  Have tried a number of other Kristoff's and none have rung any bells for me, so wasn't real curious.
Actually, let me change that, one that I thought was pretty good was the Kristania...which is supposed to be their bargain offering.

Had a Kristoff Cameroon recently that I enjoyed. That Pistoff is supposed to be the strongest one they've put out. Not sure it will be for me.

I have an offer on the table and still a couple of interviews/possibilities. Not sure I even want to bother with the other interviews because the offer is a good one. The only drawback is that it's a contractor/consulting position and I won't get any benefits.

@Fish and LTG: Are you all leaving CF on Saturday afternoon  or Sunday morning?
Saturday afternoon
Saturday at some point, unless something comes up and I have to leave Friday morning
LALTS. Doesn't look like we'll be meeting up then. When are y'all golfing?
We all arrive Thursday afternoon(ish) and plan to golf Friday morning
I really want to come up on Friday but doesn't look like the new job will allow that. Charlie wanted to go back up to Famous for a prime rib dinner on April 27th too and that's not looking good either. Friggin work.
You haven't even started there yet, surely it's not too early to ask for time off.  8)
Poor planning, should have set a 5/8 start date
Exactly, what were you thinking.  You did designate three weeks vacation for this year, right?
....and an outsourcing buyout clause.

No, I think they send you an actual live groundhog, which is madness,
but you have to sign a waiver, since it might consume the cigars in transit,

I did finally get my spot and paid for it for about 18 months. Just let it lapse 11 days ago. I think I'll commute via bus because it's closer to my destination. Plus if I decide to go back to the train, the new walmart allows commuter parking for free and that'll save me $40/month.

Okay, gots to step out the office for a while. My dad's giving the opening prayer for today's session of the state senate, so going to observe.
Is he going to tell them that they haven't got a prayer?
God is the last hope for them all.

We got the royal treatment. I did a little lobbying for the 2nd amendment. Offered a few bribes, but no takers.
Small potatoes.....not likely that change from your lunch purchase will get you something with these pro's.
Lunch money? Sheeeeeiiiit. I was offering 15-year-old scotch and Cuban cigars. You'd think that would at least buy one vote.

Paper with dead presidents on it (except for Hamilton & Franklin).

King County would like a border wall to eliminate the threat from the rest of the state to their liberal sanctuary kingdom. But they'd have to give up the 31st legislative district where I live. It was the only district in the state that went for Trump, but still...lotsa money in it.

Nothing, I suppose. Except that they aren't rubber, and haven't been in a long time.

Hmmm...were they ever? Didn't they go straight from animal membranes to latex?

The first rubber vulcanization process was invented by Charles Goodyear in 1839 and patented in 1844.  The first rubber condom was produced in 1855.  Mass production of rubbers started in the late 1850's.

So now it would be proper to call them Latex's I guess.

It's fine that you want to mow if so inclined, but shouldn't the PROPERTY OWNER buy equipment for upkeep of their property?

FWIW, got my shipping confirmation e-mail from the sis. Guess the deal of the day was truly a deal.
Me too.  Sure was an interesting one!
I was worried because I hadn't gotten mine. It just now arrived.
Package arrived. $14.49 for two lighters and 20 cigars? Not too shabby at all. Granted, they're still Alec Bradleys but 20 smokes, none the less.
