Today is Friday, March 10, the 69th day of 2017. There are 296 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On March 10, 1848, the U.S. Senate ratified the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ended the Mexican-American War.

On this date:

In 1629, England's King Charles I dissolved Parliament; he did not call it back for 11 years.

In 1785, Thomas Jefferson was appointed America's minister to France, succeeding Benjamin Franklin.

In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell's assistant, Thomas Watson, heard Bell say over his experimental telephone: "Mr. Watson - come here - I want to see you" from the next room of Bell's Boston laboratory.

In 1927, the Sinclair Lewis novel "Elmer Gantry" was published by Harcourt, Brace & Co.

In 1933, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake centered off Long Beach, California, resulted in 120 deaths.

In 1949, Nazi wartime broadcaster Mildred E. Gillars, also known as "Axis Sally," was convicted in Washington, D.C., of treason. (She served 12 years in prison.)

In 1952, Fulgencio Batista once again became leader of Cuba in a bloodless coup that deposed President Carlos Piro Socarras.

In 1969, James Earl Ray pleaded guilty in Memphis, Tennessee, to assassinating civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. (Ray later repudiated that plea, maintaining his innocence until his death.)

In 1973, the Pink Floyd album "The Dark Side of the Moon" was first released in the U.S. by Capitol Records (the British release came nearly two weeks later).

In 1985, Konstantin U. Chernenko, who was the Soviet Union's leader for 13 months, died at age 73; he was succeeded by Mikhail Gorbachev.

In 1987, the Vatican issued a 40-page document on scientific techniques involving procreation, condemning such practices as surrogate motherhood, test-tube births and cloning.

In 1993, Dr. David Gunn was shot to death outside a Pensacola, Florida, abortion clinic. (Shooter Michael Griffin is serving a life sentence.)

Ten years ago: In their first direct talks since the Iraq war began, U.S. and Iranian envoys traded harsh words and blamed each other for Iraq's crisis at a one-day international conference in Baghdad. President George W. Bush, in Uruguay as part of his Latin America tour, asked Congress for $3.2 billion to pay for 8,200 more U.S. troops in Afghanistan and Iraq on top of the 21,500-troop buildup he had announced in Jan. 2007. Standup comedian Richard Jeni, 49, died at a Los Angeles hospital of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Five years ago: Rick Santorum won the Kansas caucuses in a rout and Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney countered in Wyoming. Israel pounded Gaza for a second day, trading airstrikes and rocket fire with Palestinian militants, killing 15 of them. F. Sherwood Rowland, 84, the Nobel prize-winning chemist who sounded the alarm on the thinning of the Earth's ozone layer, died in Corona del Mar, California.

One year ago: Donald Trump and his Republican rivals turned their presidential debate in Miami into a mostly respectful but still pointed discussion of Social Security, Islam, trade and more. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made an official visit to the White House. Sir Ken Adam, the British film production designer behind the sets for some of the James Bond movies and "Dr. Strangelove," died in London at age 95.

Probably a better suited TWSS... aren't you supposed to be studying.
He usually takes a while to settle in, has to go get a snack, another cup of coffee, then starts.

It's always the snacks. Too bad the test isn't on food. :P

Cincy trading away their team before the draft?
Trying to be more competitive with Cleveland or what?
Someone's gotta get those high draft picks!

Texans trade Brock Osweiler to Cleveland

Another brilliant move by Cleveland?
Sure get's Texas off the hook for what was one of the worst free agent deals ever.

Outside of the 12 million dollar signing bonus and the guaranteed 37 million that is probably still on their books as dead cap money... but other than that.

[edit] looks like 16 million is going to Cleveland with him.

Doesn't sound like he's gonna be here long enough to print the uniforms.

So, they own his "rights" now and hope to trade him... strange deal.

They got a draft pick to take Osweiler. The Browns have an excess of cap space. So they take the cap hit, trade or dump Osweiler, and they have a pick. It's Moneyball.

Oh, I understand they are basically buying a 2nd rounder, but we're talking about Cleveland draft picks... a big gamble in itself... Just ask Golf. The more probable idea would be for them to bundle this and maybe some others to trade up for a particular guy in the 1st.

For the oldest it did this year, yeah. The middle one has a guy, but the youngest has the cutie that the middle one had last year. So I get one more year of her. ;) In fact, I saw her in a pic on the schools FB page a few days ago, wonder it I can find it for you guys...

If you plant those possums at the bottom of your beds, you'll have great fertilizer for them for the season. (and save on medical supplies).

I'm sure. I told these wildlife ladies to make other arrandements. I am no longer picking them up and delivering them. it would take me all day and at least a tank of gas driving around in God's green earth.

Yes. Now I have two M4-style Carbines. I don't need any more of those. The next one will be something different. And I also have a motorcycle waiting for pickup with a $3K bill due. And I've now spent $2000 on firearms in 2017. So yes, dammit. I only bought one.

As I've said before, the conventional wisdom doesn't apply to my wife. Other than groceries and thrift stores, she doesn't shop...not for shoes, clothes, home decor, wine, cars, purses, whatever. If she gripes, I have to remind her that she makes 1/8 of the household income and works six hours a day. That doesn't always stop her griping at me, but it definitely mitigates it.

Rick's fault.
That could have you seriously hurt. Tell her I love you no matter how much you want to say otherwise and you won't die a slow painful death.
Marriage is a slow, painful death. ;-)

Nah, seriously she hasn't griped at me about a purchase since the misunderstanding about the new Harley. That was August.

That's good. Treat them well and good things will come in return is a good policy.

Anybody Home?
This ain't home.

Afternoon, Tex. Just got the call from my FFL that there's an AR556 waiting for me to pay the tax and transfer.
Sheesh, you only bought one?
Yes. Now I have two M4-style Carbines. I don't need any more of those. The next one will be something different. And I also have a motorcycle waiting for pickup with a $3K bill due. And I've now spent $2000 on firearms in 2017. So yes, dammit. I only bought one.
Wow, nice!!
Tex is right, though. If I hadn't already had a carbine, I'd have ordered two. That was a killer price.
Women don't understand. When something is good gotta get it because we know they do.
The words women and understand in the same sentence?  Surely you jest.

"misunderstanding about the Harley "Boat".  Haha, I know that of which you speak.
Now I know of which you speak, but a simple GFY and she clearly understood my position.
