Today is Wednesday, March 1, the 60th day of 2017. There are 305 days left in the year. Today is Ash Wednesday.

Today's Highlight in History:

On March 1, 1867, Nebraska became the 37th state as President Andrew Johnson signed a proclamation.

On this date:

In 1565, the city of Rio de Janeiro was founded by Portuguese knight Estacio de Sa.

In 1792, Holy Roman Emperor Leopold II died; he was succeeded by his son, Francis II.

In 1815, Napoleon, having escaped exile in Elba, arrived in Cannes, France, and headed for Paris to begin his "Hundred Days" rule.

In 1932, Charles A. Lindbergh Jr., the 20-month-old son of Charles and Anne Lindbergh, was kidnapped from the family home near Hopewell, New Jersey. (Remains identified as those of the child were found the following May.)

In 1940, "Native Son" by Richard Wright was first published by Harper & Brothers.

In 1954, four Puerto Rican nationalists opened fire from the spectators' gallery of the U.S. House of Representatives, wounding five members of Congress. The United States detonated a dry-fuel hydrogen bomb, codenamed Castle Bravo, at Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands.

In 1957, "The Cat in the Hat" by Dr. Seuss was released to bookstores by Random House.

In 1961, President John F. Kennedy signed an executive order establishing the Peace Corps.

In 1967, U.S. Rep. Adam Clayton Powell, D-N.Y., accused of misconduct, was denied his seat in the 90th Congress. (The Supreme Court ruled in 1969 that Powell had to be seated.)

In 1971, a bomb went off inside a men's room at the U.S. Capitol; the radical group Weather Underground claimed responsibility for the pre-dawn blast.

In 1981, Irish Republican Army member Bobby Sands began a hunger strike at the Maze Prison in Northern Ireland; he died 65 days later.

In 1997, severe storms hit Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi, and spawned tornadoes in Arkansas blamed for two dozen deaths.

Ten years ago: Tornadoes killed 20 people in the Midwest and Southeast, including eight students at Enterprise High School in Alabama. Maj. Gen. George W. Weightman, who had been in charge of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, was relieved of command after disclosures about dilapidated buildings and inadequate treatment of wounded soldiers. An independent commission concluded the National Guard and Reserves weren't getting enough money or equipment.

Five years ago: Senate Democrats narrowly blocked, 51-48, an effort by Republicans to overturn President Barack Obama's order that most employers or their insurers cover the cost of contraceptives. Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley signed a measure legalizing same-sex marriage in his state, effective Jan. 2013. Online publisher and conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart died in Los Angeles at age 43.

One year ago: In the Super Tuesday primaries and caucuses, Republican Donald Trump won Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia; Ted Cruz won Alaska, Oklahoma and his home state of Texas; Marco Rubio won Minnesota. On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton won Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia while Bernie Sanders prevailed in Colorado, Minnesota, Oklahoma and his home state of Vermont.

In keeping with big corporate incompetence models (18,000+ employees worldwide) the Wardens Company last year moved about 100 from Houston to Austin which made no financial sense whatsoever.  Yesterday they let a small number go and moved an entire section back to Houston.  Tomorrow thy are bussing everyone in that Division to Houston for the day to celebrate the great idea.

It is widely believed that Most likely they will move all of them to Houston within a year or so but she should be fine.

Lets put a positive spin on that, you escaped NY in 2014, it was suggested you could do better than an RV park in 2015 and you've now had the chance to identify a more spacious and permanent abode in 2017.

Although I believe Atlantic's pricing on most of these cigars is better even without the free shipping.

Hello botl's, any deals out there? Trying to get a order together. TY.
You came to the right place, Rick. But your timing might be off. Don't know of any great deals at the moment.

Enablers? Anything for Rick?

Nope, he's too late for that one as well.  AB Prensado's up now.
Oliva Os now. Wow, this jam is moving along.

This house is sold!
Congrats! It was worth the new carpeting, in that case.
So did you have to promise a turn-over date to the prospective owners?
Close in 30-45 days then Sale-Leaseback through August.  All Cash Buyer
Cool.  Did you have to engage a realtor to get this done?  The warden is strategizing how to save some commission $$ on our future sale.

Does not necessarily mean there wasn't a realtor in the picture to some degree.   I'm not an investment property high roller like you so indulge me.

I don't know shit other than what he's posted. I believe he and his wife knew the couple that potentially wanted the house. So they had been getting it ready for their arrival this week. Sounds like they liked it and offered to buy it for cash.

Word of mouth, no realtor.  Told a few folks around the neighborhood we were going to be putting it on the market in the spring and one of them told these people about it.

Just need a real estate attorney to do the contract, probably $500 at most.

Very nice, especially the cash purchase part, no fk'n banks to deal with.  But someone will probably have to pay a title company and survey.  Small change compared to realtor fee, though.

G'evening afoc, TD, bean cubed. Hope dean's move went okay today. Have a question for youse guys (cb, you too, if you're lurking). Do you think the fda rules have finally taken effect with regards to pricing?? I've been following jambalaya and the 'page's scorcher and I think the vast majority of the "deals" are weak as water. And it's not just today, cuz I've noticed it for quite awhile (6-12 mos.?? Except for Xmas maybe) now.

I feel there is no doubt FDA scare has taken account and this is the cause and effect. What the total effect will come from the courts.

Companies are cutting away at their low selling brands and house blends are being liquidated by online retailers

Still ranting....Not fair that Cuban cigars can be bought and brought back with no intentions to tax or take the FDA hit.

FDA wants to know what's in every cigar or pipe blend post 2007. Some shops have house rollers and tobacco blender's which is a no no and no more free cigar events. Fvck the FDA

Events now cost money and this is how shops can still have them but do you want to pay 25 bucks to attend?

I think the retailers' FDA excuse is in full effect.

Went with a ruination torp and have to clip so much of the tip off to get a decent draw. I do like this blend. It has tested time but think I will remember not to buy the torpedo again.
