Title: 1/8/2017
Post by: CigarBanter on January 08, 2017, 12:01:29 AM
No the site isn't closed. It's just that our regulars don't post all that much on the weekends. But don't be shy. If you know of any cigar deals on the various internet sites that are worth talking about, go ahead and post it. Even if it isn't about cigars, go ahead, you've got nothing to lose. In fact,  you practically will have the entire site all to yourself. But be warned that if you are somehow able to get our attention, we're a spirited lot.

Yesterday and today are our coldest temperatures in 6 years.  Sheesh!

@ tcarblu - excellent deal on those Laranjas @ $4.35 each delivered.  Cheapest I have ever seen them by a dollar/stick or more.

With OY's code they became a steal with only buying 10!   Good work OY.

good morning Dave.
31° wind chill 27°.
smoking indoors with the trailer clised up is against my grain but screw it, it's too cold to smoke outside. my little heaters have it 66° inside but it feels warmer. of all mornings NOT to have a warm body next to me.
CAO Gold robusto and coffee going.

Today is Sunday, Jan. 8, the eighth day of 2017. There are 357 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On Jan. 8, 1867, the U.S. House of Representatives joined the Senate in overriding President Andrew Johnson's veto of the District of Columbia Suffrage Bill, giving black men in the nation's capital the right to vote.

On this date:

In 1642, astronomer Galileo Galilei died in Arcetri, Italy.

In 1790, President George Washington delivered his first State of the Union address to Congress in New York.

In 1815, the last major engagement of the War of 1812 came to an end as U.S. forces defeated the British in the Battle of New Orleans, not having gotten word of the signing of a peace treaty.

In 1918, President Woodrow Wilson outlined his Fourteen Points for lasting peace after World War I. Mississippi became the first state to ratify the 18th Amendment to the Constitution, which established Prohibition.

In 1935, rock-and-roll legend Elvis Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi.

In 1959, Charles de Gaulle was inaugurated as president of France's Fifth Republic.

In 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson, in his State of the Union address, declared an "unconditional war on poverty in America."

In 1976, Chinese premier Zhou Enlai, 77, died in Beijing.

In 1982, American Telephone and Telegraph settled the Justice Department's antitrust lawsuit against it by agreeing to divest itself of the 22 Bell System companies.

In 1987, for the first time, the Dow Jones industrial average closed above 2,000, ending the day at 2,002.25.

In 1997, the state of Arkansas put three men to death in the second triple execution since capital punishment was reinstated in 1976. (The first also occurred in Arkansas, in 1994.)

In 2011, U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., was shot and critically wounded when a gunman opened fire as the congresswoman met with constituents in Tucson; six people were killed, 12 others also wounded. (Gunman Jared Lee Loughner (LAWF'-nur) was sentenced in Nov. 2012 to seven consecutive life sentences, plus 140 years.)

Ten years ago: A Moroccan (Mounir el-Motassadeq) convicted of aiding three of the four suicide pilots who had committed the Sept. 11 attacks was sentenced by a German court to the maximum of 15 years in prison for his role in the terror plot. The Florida Gators won college football's national championship by defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes 41-14. Actress Yvonne De Carlo died in Woodland Hills, California, at age 84.

Five years ago: Bells rang in Tucson, Arizona, as residents paused to remember the six people killed in the shooting rampage a year earlier that left Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords severely wounded; Giffords led a crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance during an evening vigil. Mitt Romney's Republican presidential rivals piled on the criticism during a morning debate, two days before the New Hampshire primary. The New York Giants ran all over Atlanta in a 24-2 rout of the Falcons in an NFC wild-card game. The Denver Broncos stunned the Pittsburgh Steelers 29-23 in overtime in the AFC wild-card game.

One year ago: Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, the world's most-wanted drug lord, was captured for a third time in a daring raid by Mexican marines, six months after walking through a tunnel to freedom from a maximum security prison in a made-for-Hollywood escape that deeply embarrassed the government and strained ties with the United States. Oakland Raiders defensive end and outside linebacker Khalil Mack made history, earning a selection at two positions on the 2015 Associated Press All-Pro Team, an NFL first. Hall of Fame rhythm and blues artist Otis Clay, 73, died in Chicago.

Yes sir, got in Friday about 3:30, so great shape.  Leaving shortly with friends for Tampa might be a bit more trouble.  With cold temps as you say, black ice on the roads is far worse than a little snow.

I really effed up my back good today. I don't think it was directly attributable to the shoveling. Lately, I twist the wrong way and my back goes out for a few hours. This is by far the worst time. I laid down on the floor for a bit and absolutely couldn't get up. Finally took a couple of Advil and made it to the couch. Sounds easier than it was.

Steelers football will help me feel better.

nope. lady's daughter is a nurse. all the poking she did with a surgical needle in about 15 different place only resulted in blood, no pus. of course she went on to her mom how worried she is that it may be something more serious and that it being on my spine and close to the base of my brain stem, now the lady is scared and worried that I'm going to die before Wednesday. sheesh.

Hey guys, good afternoon. Thanks, Tex. Glad some of the BOTL's were able to take advantage, especially with the Oycode. Didn't have it when I placed my order yesterday, but will get 10 more today with code.

Dean and Mayor, sorry to hear about the physical problems, hope you both mend soon.
Afternoon Blu

You made a very good buy even without the code.
True dat, however, worth doubling up at theses prices, don't know when we will see this again, unless we are going down that road that started with Atlantic and the Room 101 deals at what we thought were real good prices, only to have others discount even further, so like you Tex, I just started cost averaging down on every great deal that came along, and now have a stock pile of some great cigars.

Friggin Pittsburgh with all the damn turnovers. Good enough to beat Miami but let's see how it goes the rest of the way.
All playoff games this weekend have been pretty shitty.  Whole lot of mediocre teams made it in somehow.
Agree, but Pretty shitty is better than what we would otherwise have to watch.

Absolutely worth doubling up.  If I did not already have a load of them I would be buying a bunch more.

Enjoying an AJF Bellas Artes.  Very tasty.
I have one that needs smoking. Maybe this week. Gonna have to build up to it though. May start with Room 101- The Big Payback or E.P. Carrillo New Wave.

Well at least the Cowboys don't have to face the Giants again this year.

And I don't have to worry about unnecessary traffic.

Met with a BOTL at a B & M to puff, sip & watch NFL last night.
Since I had not tried the Laranja, I splurged and got one (BP toro Caixa)
for only $12+ (for one!), so now it's a shock to see them so much more affordable.

I need a lot of things. More guns. Money. Cigars. Sex. Whiskey. Motorcycles. Not necessarily in that order.

You can't compare. Buying beer and drinking it at home is a whole lot cheaper too. I don't mind spending $10-12 for a single stick when I visit a b&m. They have to pay rent too.

Howdy,  SLY.

woohoo. going to get my abcess lanced. bbl.
I hope you are going to a medical facility.

nope. lady's daughter is a nurse. all the poking she did with a surgical needle in about 15 different place only resulted in blood, no pus. of course she went on to her mom how worried she is that it may be something more serious and that it being on my spine and close to the base of my brain stem, now the lady is scared and worried that I'm going to die before Wednesday. sheesh.
Dean, please keep us posted ... good news or bad. Will pray for you ... remember the Gospel starts with, "Repent ... " then, "... and believe the Good News." This is coming from someone who's not perfect and is daily need of repentance & growth in faith/grace.  If we want something special especially healing, sometimes we need to remove obstacles that may obstruct the flow of God's healing, love and mercy.

No, of course you're right, Tony.  My car broke down on Thursday night. It's in the shop since Friday ($$$$ ... hoping it'll be ready tomorrow, then I can turn in my rental car (more out of pocket expense).  I put a lot of money into it this past year and was thinking it was about set for a couple years (;) Mechanic thinks it's the transmission ... probably over $1,000.  (That's a lot of cigars, Cigarfest, vacation etc.).  I was prepared to pay $10 last night, but in view of what I just wrote, it was a strain.  I just paid a large amount in Annual dues for my K of C club (we have a large old home & it ain't cheap to keep up, so our dues are commensurate.  There i can bring my own cigars & booze (that i've already bought) to our little upstairs cigar lounge w/TV.  But my buddy wanted to go to the B&M (where I used to be a regular customer).  It was nice last night, met a few new and interesting BOTLs.  PS, there was a lot of hunting, gun, & military talk (we're near DC).

Oh, I hear you on the expenses brother. That's why I hardly go to b&ms myself and make most of my cigar purchases online. Just saying I understand why their prices are higher and I feel they're justified. I'm sorry you're going through all that.
