Time to make the doughnuts.
Mmmm, donuts.
Where's the coffee?
Good morning, Rick. The coffee is always on. Just made it about a second ago.
Good morning Tony I will take a large with just almond milk please
Does this look like a diner? I made it but you can get it yourself. There should be a new almond or oat milk in the pantry.
Thanks Tony. It's facilities week here. Breakfast pizza is being served
Speaking of, boiler has been running pretty consistently this morning. 34 here right now. Brrrrr
Mid 40s here but too cold for shorts.
Supposed to be mid-40s at tee time tomorrow morning. I'll definitely be in pants.
Everyone will appreciate that.
Indeed.
Like looking in a mirror.

Morning, APNewsDave.

Connections kicked my ass today. I could tell what the groups were, but couldn't get everything lined up.

There's a bass player and songwriter in Nashville named Jim Photoglo, whom I was vaguely familiar with as Dan Fogelberg's bass player in the 90s. Back in 1987 he wrote a song for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band that became their biggest-selling hit. A little thing called "Fishin' in the Dark." Maybe you've heard it, or Garth Brooks' cover of it.

A few weeks ago my dad sent me a message telling me the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band was going to be in town, and the bass player is my stepmother's cousin, and he was offering to comp us tickets. Did I want to go?

So I looked up who was playing bass for NGDB these days, and it was Jim Photoglo. I responded, "Jim Photoglo is Athena's cousin??"

Yup. Well, hell yeah I wanted to go. So, on Friday, I picked up the tab for dinner for dad, Athena, my wife Carol, son Christian (who had coincidentally become a fan recently of NGDB) and Cousin Jim. Then we went to the show.

Fun times.

That's pretty cool. Even cooler if he'd played the guitar.

Well, he plays bass guitar, and not bass violin, so technically he is a guitarist.

But he had apparently not heard the oldest bass joke on the planet. So I got to tell it to him:

"Q: How many bass players does it take to screw in a light bulb?

A: Only one, but the lead guitarist has to show him how to do it."

He hadn't heard that wisecrack, somehow, but laughed and said, "You have no idea how true that is in this business."
