Post by: CigarBanter on January 20, 2015, 10:56:53 PM
I know you shouldn't wish your days away but it was such a TUESDAY that I'm eager to get us to hump day, STAT!  Who knows?  Maybe there will be cigar deals on the various internet sites that are worth talking about? Join in this discussion and perhaps learn something along the way.  Be warned, post on this site and you will catch hell from members and trolls alike.  Therefore, don't proceed if you have thin skin.  If you can accept all that, light a cigar, pour a beverage and welcome aboard!

Ten years ago: A car bomb outside a Shiite mosque in Baghdad killed at least 14 people; a suicide bombing at a Shiite wedding south of the capital killed at least seven people. The body of Megan LeAnn Holden, a college student whose abduction was captured on a surveillance videotape as she was leaving her clerk's job at a Wal-Mart, was found in western Texas. Five years ago: A bitterly divided U.S. Supreme Court, in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, vastly increased the power of big business and labor unions to influence government decisions by freeing them to spend their millions directly to sway elections for president and Congress. Tax Man
-------------------------

At the end of the tax year, the Tax Office sent an inspector to audit the books of a synagogue. While he was checking the books he turned to the Rabbi and said:
"I notice you buy a lot of candles. What do you do with the candle drippings?"

"Good question", noted the Rabbi. "We save them up and send them back to the candle makers, and every now and then they send us a free box of candles."

"Oh", replied the auditor, somewhat disappointed that his unusual question had a practical answer. But on he went, in his obnoxious way: "What about all these biscuit purchases? What do you do with the crumbs?"

"Ah, yes", replied the Rabbi, realising that the inspector was trying to trap him with an unanswerable question. "We collect them and send them back to the manufacturers, and every now and then they send a free box of holy biscuits."

"I see!" replied the auditor, thinking hard about how he could fluster the know-it-all Rabbi. "Well, Rabbi", he went on, "What do you do with all the leftover foreskins from the circumcisions you perform?"

"Here, too, we do not waste", answered the Rabbi. "What we do is save up all the foreskins and send them to the Tax Office, and about once a year they send us a complete prick."

Ohh, I didn't realize all of us are running low on cigars.  I think most of us have a 2-10year supply on them - hence the reason for the comment.
I didn't buy them, but I seem to be finding better cigars for sub $4 on CBid right now(ex: JD Howards, LAdCs, etc)

I have at least a 5 year supply but watching them rest is half the fun to me with at leat 10% of my supply more than 5 years old.  Buy what you like, smoke what you like and rest what you like just so it is fun to you.  Oh yeah, I have never made a purchase from the Bid Sites, almost did recently because of Enabler Fish but try to avoid that trap.

That's not bad though - box for $200 at that price.  I just got a box of the Habanos for $163 on CBid, but anything under $200 is pretty good.  I would rank them  Habano>Sumatra>Maduro

Yeah it's these or the Habano for me, just depends how much spice and sweetness I want.  The Maduro is very mediocre in comparison.

Only some stouts and porters, not all, but they do mellow out and become more smooth with age.  Narwahl is a good example - lot of people rest Bourbon County, the higher IBU Stouts, etc.  Nice part is you don't age them in a fridge, so you can keep that space for the current drinking selection.

That reminds me, have a Narwahl tucked away....maybe I'll break it out tonight with a Monk Triple Belgian.
That's a damn good beer!

Hey Golfin' Dave....box o' Bueso's on the devil still at $19...closing today.
Thanks for the heads up. Got a full box of them already, but tried to bid anyways - not to rest them, I swear! - but still got outbid.
Yeah, fuck that resting noise!
Resting is just a byproduct of buying more than you can smoke
Yeah, only an idiot would rest cigars/beer/wine...damn guy who does that is probably a commie!

Agreed!

Or just build a bigger fridge without feet.
Thankfully those come with feet ;)
Yea, built by professionals.

"A 7-year-old treat from Partagas for about $3 apiece with free standard ground shipping to boot? Indeed, Joe's savings know no bounds. These Partagas Cifuentes cigars were rolled way back in 2006 - the original production of Cifuentes Seasonals Winter - and have been enjoying a cedar nap in the massive aging rooms of the Partagas factory ever since. Tatuaje Nicaragua Cojonu '12 - Toro Up - 5/$40   I have some I think they were 5/$35 when I bought them,  Good cigars but not $8  good IMHO.
That's not bad though - box for $200 at that price.  I just got a box of the Habanos for $163 on CBid, but anything under $200 is pretty good.  I would rank them  Habano>Sumatra>Maduro
You are such a Tat Whore! ::)

Generally, yes. But I've discovered that on a very hot day, with freshly-shucked oyster shooters and baby back ribs coming off the grill, a Budweiser can be quite tasty. Not Bud Light, the regular Budweiser.

Agreed!
Footless commie!
And why would you rest beer or white wine?
Only some stouts and porters, not all, but they do mellow out and become more smooth with age.  Narwahl is a good example - lot of people rest Bourbon County, the higher IBU Stouts, etc.  Nice part is you don't age them in a fridge, so you can keep that space for the current drinking selection.
Like you fuk'n know something about beer, you are barely old enough to even buy the shit. :)  Evem I don't rest beer - goes flat.
LALTS!
Yea.....Sam and others even put expiry dates or birth dates on the bottles.
And some aren't bottle conditioned to rest, so it's a factor of a couple of things.  No reason to rest an IPA, Budweiser style, or etc...really only the dark goodness.
Many of the better dark craft beers have lower carbonation and don't keep well at all.
It's like cigars - it's a crap shoot, but a lot of guys who what they can age and what they can't.

Who was it that was waiting on these Short Stories?  Raz?
No, I'm looking for Asylum toros. But I wouldn't kick short stories out of bed.

Morning, muchachos.
Haven't had an Asylum in a bit but always enjoyed the normal sized ones.
Normal sized ones?
That would be about 2" long in CG's mind.
That's like 1/3 the length of my pinky, not my winky   ;)

The only reason to rest Budweiser is in the hope you'll come to your senses before you drink it
It never fails, Budweiser and even Bud lite give me a headache... ugh..!  My doctor prescribes Stag for us old guys.. And he prescribed red wine for my daughter-in-law to help raise her good cholesterol.
Hate that stuff - it's rare that I don't get a headache 1 or 2 beers in

Generally, yes. But I've discovered that on a very hot day, with freshly-shucked oyster shooters and baby back ribs coming off the grill, a Budweiser can be quite tasty. Not Bud Light, the regular Budweiser.
FUk'N A that sounds mighty damn good right now on a cold day!

Thanks Uncle T.  I was "trying" to say - people who are aging beers know what they are doing, similar to cigar smokers.  Some won't age well while others will.  No reason to age an IPA when you are drinking it for the hops and probably overwhelming flavors - why rest it and mellow the flavors you are enjoying.  Same reason most people don't age mild cigars or say a spicy cigar falls flat and they prefer it OTT.

And some aren't bottle conditioned to rest, so it's a factor of a couple of things.  No reason to rest an IPA, Budweiser style, or etc...really only the dark goodness.
The only reason to rest Budweiser is in the hope you'll come to your senses before you drink it
Generally, yes. But I've discovered that on a very hot day, with freshly-shucked oyster shooters and baby back ribs coming off the grill, a Budweiser can be quite tasty. Not Bud Light, the regular Budweiser.
That's a pretty small bucket those Bud's are good for, just sayin'  :D
Well, yeah. But it's all about the pairing, y'know?

Hey Golfin' Dave....box o' Bueso's on the devil still at $19...closing today.
Thanks for the heads up. Got a full box of them already, but tried to bid anyways - not to rest them, I swear! - but still got outbid.
Yeah, fuck that resting noise!
Resting is just a byproduct of buying more than you can smoke
Yeah, only an idiot would rest cigars/beer/wine...damn guy who does that is probably a commie!

LALTS!

Many of the better dark craft beers have lower carbonation and don't keep well at all.
It's like cigars - it's a crap shoot, but a lot of guys who know what they can age and what they can't.

Huh?
I read it 4 times too.  I think it should have been as I've edited above.  Still don't know what the fuck he's talking about though.
That's why he's still going to school.  Think he's saving English and composition for last.

No, I'm looking for Asylum toros. But I wouldn't kick short stories out of bed.

Morning, muchachos.
Haven't had an Asylum in a bit but always enjoyed the normal sized ones.
I can't speak for the other vitolas, but the toros really seem to age well.
Oh chit now you are going to get Travellin Dave all irritable again.

Or maybe the weather is different, the warden gave it up the night before, or you happen to have a little extra bourbon in you and the cigar just seems better than some dimly-remembered time months in the past.

All I know is, that Asylum tasted far better than I remembered the last one tasting, so I'm going to buy some more.  Fuck a bunch of objectivity anyway.

No.. I have to babysit in awhile until late tonight.  It's going to be a long day.

Good morning, Flip.
moning Tony, you are in the city today?  got a meeting tonight at the legion, might be a good time for a brick house cigar.
I need to join you there soon.  It's been a while.  Brick House is always a solid choice.
Monday and Tuesday pretty 30ish blonde bartender, Wednesday & Saturday cute crazy brunette, Thursday & Friday older woman, Sunday, my buddy Shadow.
I believe I've met the brunette and Shadow.  Gonna have to aim for a Monday or Tuesday.   ;)

Weather is really crapping out here started raining now which was not supposed to happen until evening.  Fuk'n weathermen that is what we should have been.
We're supposed to get 1-2" of snow this afternoon.  Weather people are trying hard to whip folks into a frenzy.
Saturday is supposed to be the more badderer storm.

Who was it that was waiting on these Short Stories?  Raz?
No, I'm looking for Asylum toros. But I wouldn't kick short stories out of bed.

Morning, muchachos.
Haven't had an Asylum in a bit but always enjoyed the normal sized ones.
I can't speak for the other vitolas, but the toros really seem to age well.
Oh chit now you are going to get Travellin Dave all irritable again.
Wha'd I say??
"resting cigars" - gives him irritable bowel syndrone.
Oh, I wasn't resting them. They were just waiting in the humidor for me to get back around to them.
Exactly right.  And sometimes when you get back around to them, the flavors may mellow, or blend more harmoniously or just go flat.

I like the Asylums as well.  Prefer them over the 13's.  Just picked up a 10 in a recent jam.  We'll have to see if they make another appearance today.
They've disappeared from the Famous Bid site

Taco in a Bag & Chicken Strips!
That is a half-ass menu presentation but if I remember right "taco in a bag" is really "frito chili pie" and that sounds real damn good as it is cold and raining here.  Bank tower (about 50+/- stories) across the street is in the clouds.

I've been wanting a Big Mac for years, so I got one yesterday.  I was wondering, "what the heck is this little brown thing in there."  It was one of the meat patties, approximately 1/8" thick and maybe 3" in diameter.  I'm not even sure it qualifies to be a hamburger patty...?  I think 94% of the sandwich was buns, lettuce, and secrete sauce.

Good morning, Flip.
moning Tony, you are in the city today?  got a meeting tonight at the legion, might be a good time for a brick house cigar.
Sorry, but this always comes to mind....

Lionel Richie is underrated.
Agreed.  Liked his release last year, Tuskegee with country duets.
Neil Sadaka or Barry Manalow got anything new?
You using Yellow Star's dictionary or what?
Yep
Pretty soon he's gonna be asking for David Cassidy or Peter Frampton...
Speaking of David Cassidy, he's playing in AC on Saturday, LA next month!

Then again, I may wait for May for Pat Benatar!

Ohh sheesh Tex - it takes all of 2 minutes every 2-3 days.  Granted, you need to commit to buying 2+ to make the shipping work, but it's still a quick search and bid.  That's how I do all of the Tat stuff - browsing that site is dangerous - get in, search, bid, get out...ASAP!   :D

I really need to look into a gig like that. Sheesh!
Yeah me too.
So not only do they blow off work when it rains, but also when it threatens to rain.... I'm in the wrong business....

Just met with the boss. Raise of 3.6% this year, when the average budget amount for the group was 2.7%. I'll take it.
Congrats to you.  I got a good one too.  THEY'RE GONNA USE LUBE THIS YEAR!
Are you picturing me as the blond in CG's gif?
Not Hardly!

This Jam sucks, Cigar Monster sucks...any good deals out there?
Best Jam in a while, heck I bought something!
I still have PFs sitting in my cart from 2 jams ago.
LALTS!  Yeah, it's been ok I guess - just never cigars I am really looking for.  Rant done
had Tats 2 times WTF you expecting?   Posting from.phone computer shit-out again.
They did have the Coj at a good price, just too bad I already have a box.  I should have hit those though so I had some variety.
Oliva V samplers are nice too.
Fuck $28 tho, they can be had for $21 on CBid all day, or $18-19ish
If you got time and patience to fuk with bid sites all night and I don't AND ADD SHIPPING!
2 minutes every 2-3 days to fill the Melamine spunk jar?

Tony, how do you deal with smelling of smoke when you get there?  Or can everyone else at the office GFT's.

I could care less about the smell on me, although I kid myself that it isn't that bad.  I keep my window opened about 3" and the window behind me opened about 1".  The heat on the floor is on full blast.  My seats are leather and you can hardly smell it in the car the next day.  Plus I use a spray freshener.

Afternoon gents.  Nice coating of snow on trees, shrubs and grass making things beautiful and fresh ... but didn't stick much to the pavement because temps were just above freezing ... might be some slick roads and sidewalks, though when temps drop as it gets dark.  How's everyone?  Trying to catch up on the banter.
Quick questions ... I would like to hear  reviews of the Diesel Uncuts from those who have tried them.  Are they like the Unholy Cocktails or more like the Unlimiteds?  And how might they compare with the MoWs on the abcde deals?
Have had a sore throat for the last couple days ... still had one small one on Monday eve. (tasty RP Edge corojo petite torpedo).

I'm on my way out the door because I can't be late to pick up my little girl from dance class.  The Unlimiteds have previously been my favorites from all the MoW and Diesel offerings.  The Uncut is better than the Unlimited.  Lots of cocoa notes, and perhaps vanilla if you're retrohaling.  Sorry I can't elaborate more.  So long, fellas.

Giving a Smoking Monk Triple Belgian a try  with a Narwhal Imperial Stout.  Cigar is interesting.  Considerable sweetness, had to double check it wasn't a sweetened tip.  Very creamy mouth feel consistent through the cigar.  Significant floral and spice smoke.  Unusual flavors to say the least.  Initial reaction was that it was infused (which it's not).  Reminds me of a Natural I would say.  Overall not a heavy or overly strong smoke.  Great burn.  Not going to be a regular, but interesting.

I'd be tempted if not for a few too many plugged ones from the last batch.  F'n Oliva.  The only ones which are never a problem are the Melanio.
I still haven't had one of those.  I'll get around to it.  Been wanting to try the Saison too.

Did you try the connie yet?

I used to enjoy the Natural, only one from that line.  It did not have a sweetened tip.  Where does yours fall on the Moontrance scale ;)

Agreed, I had no interest in revisiting the Saison.  Indescript at best.

We keep nothing from the Mayor.  Bean will be in town (North Philly).  Figured it wouldn't be easy for you guys after just getting permission for last week.  As Bean said, he will be out a number of times, some of it in South Brunswick.  I was thinking to just take him to Princeton Tuesday or Wed.

I'd love to meet up in Princeton but probably can't get the permission slip signed so soon after the last herf.  I'd go out on a limb but since you'll be back again several times, I'll just wait until the next time.
