That statement is less weird from you than if I said that I got in touch with an inner Dave.

I may even have thrown up a little just thinking about it.

Today is Wednesday, Aug. 17, the 230th day of 2016. There are 136 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On Aug. 17, 1807, Robert Fulton's North River Steamboat began heading up the Hudson River on its successful round trip between New York and Albany.

On this date:

In 1863, Federal batteries and ships began bombarding Fort Sumter in Charleston harbor during the Civil War, but the Confederates managed to hold on despite several days of pounding.

In 1915, a mob in Cobb County, Georgia, lynched Jewish businessman Leo Frank, 31, whose death sentence for the murder of 13-year-old Mary Phagan had been commuted to life imprisonment. (Frank, who'd maintained his innocence, was pardoned by the state of Georgia in 1986.)

In 1943, the Allied conquest of Sicily during World War II was completed as U.S. and British forces entered Messina.

In 1945, Indonesian nationalists declared their independence from the Netherlands. The George Orwell novel "Animal Farm," an allegorical satire of Soviet Communism, was first published in London by Martin Secker & Warburg.

In 1962, East German border guards shot and killed 18-year-old Peter Fechter, who had attempted to cross the Berlin Wall into the western sector.

In 1969, Hurricane Camille slammed into the Mississippi coast as a Category 5 storm that was blamed for 256 U.S. deaths, three in Cuba.

In 1978, the first successful trans-Atlantic balloon flight ended as Maxie Anderson, Ben Abruzzo and Larry Newman landed their Double Eagle II outside Paris.

In 1982, the first commercially produced compact discs, a recording of ABBA's "The Visitors," were pressed at a Philips factory near Hanover, West Germany.

In 1985, more than 1,400 meatpackers walked off the job at the Geo. A. Hormel and Co.'s main plant in Austin, Minnesota, in a bitter strike that lasted just over a year.

In 1987, Rudolf Hess, the last member of Adolf Hitler's inner circle, died at Spandau Prison at age 93, an apparent suicide.

In 1996, the Reform Party announced Ross Perot had been selected to be its first-ever presidential nominee, opting for the third-party's founder over challenger Richard Lamm.

In 1999, more than 17,000 people were killed when a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Turkey.

Ten years ago: In a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union, a federal judge in Detroit ruled that President George W. Bush's warrantless surveillance program was unconstitutional. (A divided federal appeals court threw out the lawsuit in July 2007, and the U.S. Supreme Court later let the appeals court decision stand.) President Bush signed new rules to prod companies into shoring up their pension plans. Jordan became the first Arab state to send a fully accredited ambassador to Iraq.

Five years ago: Vice President Joe Biden arrived in Beijing to meet with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.

One year ago: A bomb exploded within a central Bangkok shrine that was among the city's most popular tourist spots, killing at least 20 people and injuring more than 100. (Two men are facing trial for the bombing, but one has maintained he was tortured to obtain a confession.) The National Labor Relations Board dismissed a historic ruling that Northwestern University football players were school employees entitled to form the nation's first union of college athletes. Actress-dancer Yvonne Craig, 78, who played the sexy, crime-fighting Batgirl in the 1960s TV hit "Batman," died in Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The deal is done, and the Playboy Mansion has a new owner.

Daren Metropoulos, who lives next door, said Tuesday that escrow has closed on his $100 million purchase of Hugh Hefner's man cave.

But the 33-year-old principal in investment firm Metropoulos & Co. won't necessarily be moving in any time soon.

Under terms of the deal, Playboy's 90-year-old founder may stay there for the rest of his life.

Unless he's living in our storage container next to the building he still won't show up on rainy days.  Too much a pussy to work here, anyway.

Though, the oldest has broken her streak of having good looking teachers. She had a good run, K-4, which included 2 different teachers in K, so a total of 6.

I think it's because they put all the young, single, non tenured teachers on the lower grades. Then they get married, have a few kids and get scary looking and transition to middle school. My 5th grader just found out she's getting this teacher that looks like...

Might try the humidor but that could backfire if I buy one after she finds out how much they cost and has no interest.

This job is not as simple as you might think because she requires such lists be very specific including brand, model, size, etc..... along with some places where she can find things and max she should reasonably pay.  Gave me a nice spinning reel for anniversary yesterday, good start but my son picked that one out for her.

Ok, he was pardoned in 1986, but wasn't he still dead from the lynching, in 1915?  Was
this a Democrat trick so he could still vote in the upcoming Presidential elections?  :o
Good morning boys.

Photos.  We require a head shot and one from the whale tail angle.
Just looked through mine and the wife's pics from last year, nothing that she was in, unfortunately.
Nothing on the school's website? C'mon!!
Warden must have been the one taking pictures.
I have one pic of one of the kids getting their arm painted, and she's in that, but only from about the nose up. Not much to go on.
sound like one of those POV shots...

Same difference I just email and include links but sometimes those links no longer work, closeout fly tackle place that has been around a long time is not longer there.  Also stuff changes models with newer models.  Just a link is fine if going to be purchased in the future.

And - just do wtf the want when you are going to come out a winner in the deal.

Good Day Sir!
you know I have an acute grasp of the absurd....
speaking of fetching teachers, had a really cute long legged blonde woman teacher
in 12th grade, Miss H.  she once went off on a tangent, and started talking about her roomate.
I inquired about his name, to which she replied, "Albert my roomate is a woman!" I answered back
sorry my mistake... thinking, you shouldn't sit up on the teachers desk in a miniskirt, in front of hormone laden
boy students(OK there were girls in the class too....  8)

Yeah, we wouldn't like estimates on the sizes.
We would  also like more than 10% decent smokes at decent deals.

living dangerously today:
had a Hungry-Man Pub favorites beer battered chicken dinner,
instructions said to microwave for 4 minutes, remove brownie, set aside
stir mashed potatoes, and veggies, return to microwave for 3.5 minutes.
I cooked it for 5 minutes, and then added 3 minutes without doing anything.
brownie did not burst into flames, so it was a success(was a tad overdone), but
what the hell.

+1 hour meeting scheduled in 20 minutes. This one is going to be a doozie; they want to completely change the scope of the project and still deliver it on time in 30 days.

Can they fire me twice?

Only an hour?  Hell, it takes at least a half hour to go over attendance, introductions and ground rules.
Only 4 or 5 people so not quite so much b.s. to deal with.

Morning, muchachos.  Late checking in because I had to drive in.  Have to do some server config changes after hours, and there's an outside chance I might buy a new(er) Harley today.
After you recently spent all that money on the old one?
It's like a boat, but on land.
Still cheaper than my house and my kids.

#2 son put a dent in the bumper of a parked car last Friday night.  Waiting to find out what THAT's going to cost me.
Better than taking out a section of fence that some old guy expects you to repair immediately because his cows are getting out.  Oh, hi Razz.
Guess so. Morning, Mikey.
Oh, and the kid that put the car in the ditch and plowed through the fence is now Capt. Morton commanding D Troop and about to head to Afghanistan for the third time.  Oh, and if his kid ever did the same thing…

For any who had planned on attending:

Austin Gay Softball World Series cancels some games due to rain

The Gay Softball World Series is in Austin for the first time, but has been greeted by heavy rainfall impacting the games.
Guess they can practice their pitching and catching some more.

Giving an EPC Dusk a try.  Lots of chocolaty goodness, a bit of distracting sawdust in the middle, fairly light smoke production.

Had a bit of a rough afternoon. Had to follow it up with an after work margarita. Seem to be doing better now.

Yeah, me too. Subs and equip vendors fk'n up, and then warden calls with a dead battery.  A jump start and new battery later, time for a gin and tonic.
