Fishing
-------------------------

Saturday morning I got up early, put on my long johns, dressed
quietly, made my lunch, grabbed the dog, slipped quietly into
the garage to hook the boat up to the truck, and proceeded to
back out into a torrential downpour.

There was snow mixed with the rain, and the
wind was blowing 50 mph.

I pulled back into the garage, turned on the radio, and discovered
that the weather would be bad throughout the day.

I went back into the house, quietly undressed, and slipped back into
bed. There I cuddled up to my wife's back, now with a different
anticipation, and whispered, "The weather out there is terrible."

She sleepily replied, "Can you believe my stupid husband is out
fishing in that crap ?.."

The damn air travel is a lot of the issue.  Our connections and flights were about as good as you can get these days but the entire experience is just frustrating as hell and total chaos at the airports.  Planes are packed these days and the boarding is 45 minutes of hell.

I used to travel as much as Travellin Dave until about 4 years ago and it just keeps getting worse all the time.  Atlanta is bad but there are far worse: JFK, Memphis, Cincinnati, Newark, St Louis, LAX and Omaha to name a few.  The recently revitalized Love Field in Dallas is about the best one now.

No matter how long I live here I always seem to forget how damn hot it gets, worse this year with a mild May and June spoiling us.  But now it is hot as hell with 95-100 and 0% chance of rain for the next 5 days.

I got them off and on all day Tuesday but thus far none today myself.  Their site has been a mess for the past month or so on Jam Days.

Hahaha, you said "dooty"!
Daves fault I am sure.
But if he asks, we'll tell him we were referring to a different Dave.  Deal?
You could keep that story running in circles around here for the rest of the year.
We can always just blame things on the Dave that is out of town at the time, there is always one of you guys on the road or in the air. OyDave would be this weeks choice.
Yeah Travellin Dave and I are here this week but I am gone most of next week.  And what a fun trip I have ahead - down to the Rio Grande Valley better known as the Border.
I make out a bit better than you on travel next week for sure.

I've heard that about him.  Met him once before he got big.  Real down to earth guy (was, anyway, who knows now).  Always liked him.  I love country music.

Not really a vodka fan.  The whole 'no flavor' thing to me is weird.  I don't like those vitamin or flavored waters for the same reason - too mild.   Not that I need to be blown away with flavors but that mild stuff just seems like I forgot to rinse out my glass.

LOL, they were out here last year with some kinda 90s summer tour.  I didn't go because tickets were expensive and you also had to sit through Sugar Ray and Smash Mouth, and a couple others I never cared for.

Sometimes I like grapefruit, sometimes I don't.  Yes, I love Stone's Grapefruit Slam and BP's Grapefruit Sculpin, but sometimes grapefruit can be too bitter for me.  We actually have a gigantic grapefruit tree in our backyard.  I hated grapefruit when we bought the house but made myself like it by eating it every day.  Then I got tired of it because I ate so much of it.  I'm back to liking it again.  They're incredibly refreshing in the summer, though.

This stuff is different, loaded with flavor

I'll get some if I see it.  The wife is a vodka drinker so even if I don't like it, she'll finish it.
If you like grapefruit you'll love this stuff. Splash of cranberry goes well, my wife drinks it with cranberry and a splash of club

Just buy the fucking vodka if you see it, no bitterness just delicious goodness

I'm gonna see how non-committal and wishy-washy I can be today.
You're certainly on course

Got a fiver of the Odysseys coming, from CBid. Got it for $13.50 shipped, so I'm not jumping at these.

Have they shipped them yet?  Morning, Bret.

Morning, all.  Realized yesterday evening that we've got tickets to Brad Paisley tonight, along with two or three opening acts.  So I've got that to look forward to!  Mid day beer run - some for Scott, some for tonight - and call it a day.
Get some good stuff for that guy, would ya?

Sure thing.  I had a Breckenridge Chocolate Cream Stout last night, really good.  Rich, sweet.

Somehow I wouldn't have pegged you for a country fan.  Paisley rocks.  Amazing guitar player.
I'm surprised he's a country fan myself, not sure why. Maybe it's his punk attitude

Country and 90s "alternative", haha.  So Braid Paisley, Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker... and then Hootie and the Blowfish, Better Than Ezra, Sister Hazel, Gin Blossoms.
Gin Blossoms.  RIP Douglas Hopkins.

I knew him, Horatio.
Check out a contemporary of Hopkins....Roger Clyne. Started out in a little band called The Refreshments (remember 'Banditos'?). Now fronts RCPM.
Roger Clyne WAS The Refreshments.  I never met Clyne personally, but I like his work.  From what I know he was kinda the antithesis of Doug.  Clyne was very attuned to that whole cowbilly ithing that is very much rooted in southern Arizona, and Clyne was a very disciplined guy.  Doug was more conventionally pop, and ALL about the party.

Get some good stuff for that guy, would ya?

Sure thing.  I had a Breckenridge Chocolate Cream Stout last night, really good.  Rich, sweet.
Had some Deep Eddy Grapefruit Vodka, you can put that shit right on the rocks with a lime, tasty

Not really a vodka fan.  The whole 'no flavor' thing to me is weird.  I don't like those vitamin or flavored waters for the same reason - too mild.   Not that I need to be blown away with flavors but that mild stuff just seems like I forgot to rinse out my glass.

Just buy the fucking vodka if you see it, no bitterness just delicious goodness
And it's from Texas, so you know it's good.

Picked up some nifties myself yesterday. Now just have to find some more space to put them. Backup cooler already full. Guess I need to smoke more. heh.

OK, it's after 9:30.  The homeless people have down their shopping for the day so I'll have the liquor store to myself.  I'd post what I'm buying but I don't want the night crew to make fun of me.  It hurts my feelings.   :'(
LMAO! I don't understand the apparent disconnect between "day crew" and "night crew", I don't really even like acknowledging that there are 2 "crews". I always thought it was all one banter, whatever, whenever

Get 2 and use 'catsrule' Ken, solid deal...$5.53/cigar
Shaun, it's already in the cart, and ready for launch! $66.37, total. I was going to go and count how many my father cigars I have, and them mentally justify getting 12 more. Fuck-it! Why look. The more the merrier!

Good Afternoon "afternoon crew"!  Yesterday I was cutting hay, hit a rock and started a fire.  Called in the fire department, got it put out without too many acres burnt, went back to haying, half hour later, had to call the boys back for another one.  They thought it would be a good idea for me to call it a day.  I concurred.  A cigar is a much better option to smoke than a hay field.

Those are very cool inserts. I was actually thinking of the wineador fridge when I read your post. I already have a coleman setup. No drawers, just stacked boxes. Still have the original 150ct wooden humi in action also. Mostly the 'guest' options in there.

I'm back.  No homeless people in sight.  I'll get your package out today, Scott.  Two stouts that shall not be named, the Old Rasputin, Bell's Two Hearted, and I got ya a Coronado Brewing Blue Ridge Coffee Stout.  Little bit lighter than most comparable stouts but I enjoy it.  Under 6% ABV so it's a perfect morning beer, LOL.

Russ, I had to get them at Atlantic for $74.95 VIP. The cigarplace.biz sold out and had a close out deal for $69.00 I believe. Might look back there at the .biz site. Or, I can get them VIP, and ship to you?

OK, it's after 9:30.  The homeless people have down their shopping for the day so I'll have the liquor store to myself.  I'd post what I'm buying but I don't want the night crew to make fun of me.  It hurts my feelings.   :'(
LMAO! I don't understand the apparent disconnect between "day crew" and "night crew", I don't really even like acknowledging that there are 2 "crews". I always thought it was all one banter, whatever, whenever
One banter, UNITED! Yeah!
LMAO. BOTL shoulder to shoulder!
Green stars among Yellow stars, one stars among 5 stars...we are all stars!
It's making me see stars. Afternoon CG.

Dug out an old aged RyJ Habana Reserve Churchill.  About 5 years ago Altadis had a deal going to get 3 RyJ's for like $3.95 and I bought them every time they were offered and mostly buried them in the Humidor.  Not at all a bad milder smoke.   Anybody else participate in those deals?  Shiner Wild Hare for refreshment.

http://www.cigar.com/cigars/viewcigar.asp?brand=390&campsrc=true

Indeed.  I took a minute to look through the rest of their clearance deals, I'm surprised the EPC Short Run '13s are still in stock.  10/$30 is a heck of a price.
Damn all of you to hell.

I don't suppose any of you know a free ship code for the Sis?
Bret, thats what I say too! Joe scrolled almost to the bottom of the list, and found these jems. I don't think I'm going to find them this cheap anywhere else.

Free shipping code I used to have isn't working any more, it seems (www.Cigar.com/frsh29).  I would also recommend emailing one of the reps over there.  They all give the same deals, be it Andy, Tim, or whoever the couple other are.  Can't hurt to ask.

They came back.  Last couple of times I've checked they weren't there, and I figured they were gone.  But here they are, and I'm taking 3 of them.

Nevermind, I'll just have to spend $125.
Pair um up with 10 Ruination Coronas for $35 on the DD for FS.

19 minutes, per the tracker site, which I supppose is fairly quick.  Random gas station somewhere must've bought the whole lot.

+1 on the photo op.  Looks like he didn't want to hold up the "welcome" sign that Obama gave him.

Why in the fuck does Shaun have yellow stars??? Good question...
Only Tony knows for sure.....
Green stars mean founding members.  Shaun didn't sign up in the first week and Tony's being hardnosed about it.

Well here is what your president did today:

AUSTIN LOCKDOWN: OBAMA VISIT SHUTS DOWN MAJOR HIGHWAYS
Car-mageddon as president travels from fundraiser to fundraiser.

Making some Austinites spend hours in traffic, Obama’s visit has prompted several street closures and bus detours, crippling the flow of traffic in a town already listed by Forbes as fourth in the nation with the worst traffic delays.

As a result of President Obama visiting Central Texas to take part in numerous speeches and fundraisers, Austin residents were forced to endure crippling gridlock.

Line no problem for Obama at Franklin Barbecue
Arriving at Franklin Barbecue in East Austin after his speech, President Barack Obama cut ahead in the ever-present line, with apologies.

If it was left up to City of Austin Voters Windy Wendy Davis would be the next Governor here.  That is who he was fundraising for this morning @ $32,400 per couple.  Thank God we have several major cities besides Austin.

Haha! Jeff, I have smoked the 5V Relic. I actually bought a box some years ago. Back when I had a 5V Humidor! The box seemed cool, and buying cigars for the box is an unsophisticated decision. I was the epitome of unsophistication! They got smoked, and given. My tastes have changed somewhat.

That is because your file is too big. You can shrink it to under 750kb. If you are on a MS computer go to microsoft picture manager, and go to tools and picture, and resize. Start with 95% until it is under 750kb.

Yes, smoked my first today.  Picked up a couple at the B&M yesterday.  Really enjoyed it.  Tasted better than a cigar, to paraphrase CB.

I am trying to post a pic , it wont let me said the file is too big ? .
That is because your file is too big. You can shrink it to under 750kb. If you are on a MS computer go to microsoft picture manager, and go to tools and picture, and resize. Start with 95% until it is under 750kb.

Or upload it at imgur and then link the photo, like I do.  Because fuck resizing things.
Yeah, Will. I am going to try imgur. Looks cool!

Will, that little cigar lasts me a while for such a small cigar. I do smoke slow, though.

Ken, minutos tend to last me around 60-70 minutes without making a point to smoke slow or anything.  The draw on this one is about perfectly open (as opposed to the slight resistance I usually find), so it might be 5 minutes faster.

The 4x40 RG Perlas were both 55 minute reviews with extra cigar to smoke after the review, but just the real small nub that had to be smoked once every 3-4 minutes due to heat.

So yeah, I smoke pretty slowly.

From my limited experience with the SCs, they have all seemed to smoke fairly well fresh.  No burn issues here.  Flavor isn't as complex as I recall, so age could be the key.  Very creamy, sorta milky coffee, bread, light spices.  I'll smoke the other one next summer or whereabouts.

Getting a richer coffee and spice flavor for the "second half."  Still very creamy in presentation.  Leathery, too--forgot to mention that before, but the smoke is dry.  Not usually a cigar for this late during hte night, but it is my first of the day.  Great coffee smoke, imo.

Excellent short smoke, obviously quality tobacco and rollers.  I just tend to prefer the stronger Cuban blends.  This is an excellent change of pace from that, for sure, and much better suited to the morning than a Partagas Short or Bolivar CJ.

The Rafael Gonzalez Perla is an interesting alternative to the SC EP.  Not as thick and creamy of a smoke.  A little sweeter up front with a fuller and slightly more aggressive pepper/spice profile for the second half.  Both are clearly trying to do different things, though I think both would work very well as a morning coffee type cigar.
