Bob-Fred, I found most of the night crew on the CI Joe Banter, and were giving review of the EH, so I stayed over there. I'm not sure if you saw, but I asked if you liked the EH? Not everyone does, so just was wondering!

So, Bret when are you opening your weed shop? You could sell premium cigars, and be classy about it. Will Washington be negative, like CO when out of staters move there, simply because weed is legal? Just wanna know...

Surprisingly, the weed shops are only getting a warm reception in the urban, college areas.  In the smaller towns, people are fighting them.  They're cash businesses, so the thinking is they'll attract crime.  We shall see.

It's a god-daughter of mine.  My mother-in-law is in town so has the guest room.  My god-daughter is in town from grad school for the funeral of a friend.  Her parents are up FredBob's way and she doesn't want to stay at their house alone.  So I let her have the trailer.

Colorado is having some backlash against the weed-heads who are moving from other states. I have friends there, and they said it's bad. I think Louisiana should legalize weed and welcome weed heads, en masse. It may elevate the collective IQ here.

You can always find pockets of people who are sensitive to interlopers. I dunno, maybe it's worse in Colorado.  Here I don't think most people care. If there's an uptick in the homeless population or panhandling, some will squawk. But we've got such a population of hippie drifters anyway I don't think it will be a huge issue.

Just wondering. I actually heard people here going to CO because weed is legal. I just thought it funny. That someone would move for that reason, and it is happening! I would rather move to Washington State when I retire, because I will miss the water if I moved to CO. Been around it all of my life. I am also used to rain too, and youse guys get a good bit of it!

It's a Steinberger guitar.  Phenolic body and graphite composite neck.  Very unique sound, very stable intonation.  I've owned a couple.  Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee used them with Rush in the 80's.

Well, thanks. I thought it a good story when you were explaining it to someone. I was not in the conversation, but my name in school was not something I talk about, and I had to get creative with the folks: my name was Grass. I guess it seemed cool at the time, and I did not like people calling me that but it fit due to the circumstances at the time. So, I always had good weed, and fellow students and teachers alike called me this. This was in the Valley(San Fernando), so you would have to know how it was there in the '70's. Moto-cross, skateboards, and puka-shells. And Surfboards, and bongs! And girls who fucked the cool guys.

Pretty much me in middle school, late 70's.  Skateboards, motocross, puka-shells, bongs.  No surfing in Texas.  So I played guitar.  It's how I got girls.

The name is over used. Supposedly there is no real Corojo! It is a seed, not where it's grown, so I don't know. A cigar has many leaves, and yes the wrapper is the most tasteful. I actually love Corojo. But, then I don't really know what the leaf is. I have to take the makers word. I would not be able to do a blind Corojo test. I could do blind for the cigars I smoke daily, but that would be it. I found this years ago, but doubt all of the accuracy. But, it seems well documented: http://www.smokemag.com/0304/feature.htm

Well, it's a strain of tobacco.  It's fallen out of favor, as the article suggests, because it's susceptible to disease.  It's peppery, and I like that, but it has a bitter edge to it that I don't care for.  This one is over a year old, maybe they just need more age.  But I'm shying away from buying it until I know more.

"barnyard, oak, Worcestershire sauce.  sunflower seeds, wet leather and saltiness.  creamy potatoes, followed by the meatiness, which is now like a roasted sausage and big acidic leather notes.  gigantic grapefruit and twang note.  crispy note—which I can best describe as chicken skin.meatiness is still there along with burnt butter, all dominated by the grapefruit note.  red pepper flake" I would throw up if my cigar did that!

husband's car pull in the driveway. She yelled at Ralph, "Hurry! grab your
clothes and jump out the window, my husband is home early!"

Ralph looked out the window and said, "I can't jump out the window! It's
raining like hell out there."

Mary cried, "If my husband catches us in here, he will kill both of us!"

So, Ralph grabbed his clothes and jumped out the window. When he landed
outside he found himself in the middle of a marathon race, so he started
running along side the others, only he was still in the nude, carrying his
clothes on his arm.

One of the runners asked him, "Do you always run in the nude?"

Ralph answered, while gasping for air, "Oh yes, it feels so free having
the air blow over your skin while you are running."

Then another runner asked, "Do you always run carrying your clothes on
your arm?"

Ralph answered breathlessly, "Oh yes, that way I can get dressed at the
end of the run and get in my car to go home."

Then another runner asked, "Do you always wear a condom when you run?"

Ralph answered, "Only if it's raining."

A cowboy was taken prisoner by a bunch of angry Indians. They were all prepared to kill him but their Chief declared that since they were celebrating the Great Spirit, they would grant the cowboy three wishes before he killing him. The cowboy can do nothing, but obey them.

The Chief comes up to him and asks:
- What do you want for your first wish?
- I want talk to my horse, - replies the cowboy.

The Chief allows him to talk to the horse. The cowboy whispers in its ear. The horse neighs, rears back, and takes off at full speed. About an hour later, the horse comes back with a naked lady on its back. Well, the Indians are very impressed, so they let the cowboy use one of their teepees. A little while later, the cowboy stumbles out of the teepee, tucking in his shirt.

The Chief asks him once again:
- What do you want for your second wish?
- I want to talk to my horse, - once again replies the cowboy.

Again, the cowboy whispers in the horse’s ear. The horse neighs, rears back, and takes off at full speed. About an hour later, the horse comes back with another naked lady on its back. Well, the Indians are very impressed indeed. So, once again, they let the cowboy use one of their teepees. The cowboy stumbles out a little while later.

The chief comes up to the cowboy and asks:
- So, what do you want for your last third wish?
- I want to talk to my horse, - for the third time replies the cowboy.

He grabs the horse by the ears and yells at it:
- You stupid animal, I said POSSE, POSSE not PUSSY!!!

An American businessman is entertaining some overseas business guests on the golf course.

The first guest, who is from Italy, tees off and hits a good shot 200 yards down the fairway. As the American businessman knows a small amount of Italian he says: “Buon tiro”, which means “Good shot”. The Italian businessman replies: “Grazie”.

The second guest, who is from France, tees off and hits a fantastic shot that lands on the green thirty feet from the hole. As the American businessman knows a small amount of French he says: “Tir fantastique”, which means “Fantastic shot”. The French businessman replies: “Merci”.

The third guest, who is from Japan, tees off and amazingly the ball goes straight in the hole, a hole in one! The American businessman doesn’t know many Japanese words or phrases but when he dated a Japanese girl during his overseas business trips she used to moan when he made love to her and she would shout out “Ura-ana, ura-ana”, and which he repeats to his Japanese guest. The Japanese businessman replies: “What do you mean, wrong hole?”

One day Mr. Smith, the president of a large corporation, called his vice-president, Dave, into his office and said, “We’re making some cutbacks, so either Jack or Barbara will have to be laid off.”

Dave looked at Mr. Smith and said, “Barbara is my best worker, but Jack has a wife and three kids. I don’t know whom to fire.”

The next morning Dave waited for his employees to arrive.

Barbara was the first to come in, so Dave said, “Barbara, I’ve got a problem. You see, I’ve got to lay you or Jack off and I don’t know what to do?”

Barbara replied, “You’d better jack off. I’ve got a headache.”

As an airplane is about to crash, a female passenger jumps up frantically and announces, “If I’m going to die, I want to die feeling like a woman.”

She removes all her clothing and asks, “Is there someone on this plane who is man enough to make me feel like a woman?”

A man stands up, removes his shirt and says, “Here, iron this!”.

It was good, but for me there wasn't enough there for flavors or complexity wise...or at least the flavors I really want in a cigar.  There were some good chocolate and leathery notes when it started off, then almost a nutmeg or cinnamon flavor in the middle and then it got a little hot with dry leather(reminded me of the LP9) towards the end.
In the end, I am glad I have a couple more I can rest and still smoke, but I am not mad that I didn't purchase a box.

I'm trying, I really am. there have been 17 rejections due to my CR, 7 out of my price range, 1 because I enjoy an occasional cigar, waiting to hear back on 3 others. if worse comes to worse I stay put and 'room' with the wife until something opens up. talk about awkward.

Nah, enjoy the summer up here, then go down there. No reason to subject yourself to 900% humidity before you have to.

Morning, all.  Had an Oliva Connie Reserve lonsdale with about years down time last night and it was great, much better than any I'd had previously.  Not sure if it was the size or the age but if they all end up tasting like that over time, I'd put it about the EPC NWC, Griffins, and Camacho Connie.  IMO.

So, am I the only one here who - it would seem - doesn't like cigars with Corojo wrappers?

I general... not my favorite, but there are a few exceptions I enjoy.
I like the pepper and spiciness, but there's an bitter flavor I don't like.

So did you end up having that D#4 the other night, Steve?
No,  a thunder storm came in rain and lighting , not wanting to get hit by lighting so I decided not to . but will try again tonight  .

Finally! The motorcycle parts I've been waiting for for two weeks are out for delivery. Now you know what's going to happen? It's gonna fucking rain the rest of the summer.
LOL! Lord knows that's the truth!
Solid Wednesday whining for sure.
What's Thursday?  Titty Thursday?
Thong Thursday, so get your's washed and ready.
Now I know what I'm wearing to your house tomorrow
Now that you decided on what, the question will be where.
The answer is your couch
I'll have to break out the plastic sofa covers then it seems.

IMO.
Great size too...love lonsdales.  Morning Joe!

Meant to say 'two years' down time.  Morning, Shaun.  No boss the next three days, lookin' to head to the B&M later this morning for a bit.

Yeah, they've developed hybrids to address the genetic weaknesses of Corojo, and now there's the inevitable debate about hybrid vs. pure, discussions of yield, and so on.  Then there's the out-and-out lunacy, like the fact that the Punch Rare Corojo hasn't got any Corojo.

The Oliva Connie reserve really jumped out at me.  Nice, big flavors, relatively speaking.  Also enjoy the Perdomo Champagne.  My true favorite "connie" is the EPC Short Run 2012, with the NWC wrapper over the core maduro binder/filler.  Good stuff, kinda like a connie on steroids.  Jury is still out for me on the SL Oval Connecticut.  Enjoyed the larger size, but the coronas I've got have been a bit rough.

Mornin', Joe.  Been craving a connie lately but keep forgetting to pack one in my portable.  May go with a Heisenberg today after work.

Morning, Tony.  I like 'em quite a bit, just don't smoke them all that often because I tend to drink heavier beers when smoking.  Kinda drowns out the milder connie profiles.
I like connies with coffee as a morning smoke.  Really like the CLE connies, but I'm running low and having trouble finding a deal to stock up, so casting about for an alternative.

Usually a morning smoke for me means I'm driving myself to work, so don't want too large a cigar or I end up wasting it.  I'll have to try the Oliva.  Seems to me I've had them, but don't remember for certain.

So, am I the only one here who - it would seem - doesn't like cigars with Corojo wrappers?

I generally do not, with a few exceptions.
What are notorious smokes with Corojo wrappers?  I seem to be a Maddy and Habby guy myself
Camacho and CLE for starters
I wouldn't say notorious.  Those are some of the better examples.
True but they invented the leaf
Really? I thought Corojo went way back. Or did you mean they invented modern hybrids?
My understanding is that the name Corojo is the name of the Camacho family farm so they named the leaf after it
Did some quick reading, Corojo was invented in Cuba back in the day. It seems Camacho kind of bought it back to life in Honduras now others also use it
Pretty much it, but like most things with cigars, companies have blurred the lines and definitions, so it doesn't mean as much as it used to.   Just like cigar sizes.
Yeah, they've developed hybrids to address the genetic weaknesses of Corojo, and now there's the inevitable debate about hybrid vs. pure, discussions of yield, and so on.  Then there's the out-and-out lunacy, like the fact that the Punch Rare Corojo hasn't got any Corojo.
see that's how rare it is. no Corojo....  8)

Just getting back into the swing of things, over the holiday weekend, my 32 year old daughter, had a miscarriage, this was going to be her & SIL's 2nd child, they have a happy healthy 20 month old already. spent the 1st couple of hours of the 4th of July, at a Staten Island hospital with them.  kind of put a damper on the holiday festivities.

Good mornin' folks. Just a drive-by for now. 7 hour power outage last night. Running a bit behind.

My condolences, flip.

Never made it to Naco (the real deal in 'dusty little border towns') yesterday. Got met in Bisbee to hand off the mining reagent they needed in Mexico.
Dusty! Sounds like all sorts of fun going on your way.
Dave! It's been a f'n blast!

I'm feeling pressure to find sticks you two haven't tried.  I may be late.
I told you don't worry about that.  You can get something for the 101st Communion party you invite us to.

Oh that's not nice, accurate maybe, but not nice! :P
Picked up some summer shandy, and Sam Adams summer ale, both were good on Sunday, but that was when I made grilled ribs & sirloins.  Wife had invited some coworkers over.

cigarbid.com, you were the winning bidder, someone else might have won, and wanted the items.  Also it doesn't mean they hadn't put most of your stuff in a box already, waiting for one more item they had misplaced, or had the wrong count on.

I'll have to check my email to see if I had the same customer service rep. I inquired as to why when I "won" boxes, I wasn't getting boxes but instead 5-pack equivalents. I even went as far as to say the box in most cases isn't even that important. It's the fact that they should be sending items in the original packaging when stated as such. She went on to say that sometimes the boxes are disguarded if they are damaged, blah, blah, blah. I said that is fine but just in my recent order history, I've never received a box. She said she could see if they had any available to send me. Anyway, last order of Cuarentas came in a box... seal broken, gouged like it was opened with the dull end of a butter knife, and loosly re-shrinkwrpped. Nice. It was a box. haha.

I understand the general discontent, but I also kinda understand their restocking fee.  You're cancelling an auction order, which is to say that had you not won they would've sold the cigars to someone else.  Now they have to list the item again.  For any one transaction this is obviously not a huge deal for them, but if this policy were not in place your bids would mean nothing.  You could just win every auction and pay only for deals you liked.  It'd be a mess.  I'd be pissed if a buyer on one of my ebay auctions backed out after committing.

Just playin' devils advocate.  Morning, FB.

OK, Friday was a national holiday, and they had big banners on the site, saying there would be no shipping on the 4th of July.  When you get a 3 day weekend, a lot of people take vacations around then, so they get the extra day.  It's kinda hard to ship items, if the guys that close the boxes, doesn't show up.  just my $0.02.

I've had all I can stand and I can't stands no more! This is my latest encounter with Cbid:

Order Confirmation # cb394xxx
If my order does not ship today, CANCEL IT! This lackadaisical shipping of orders is totally unacceptable!

Customer service comment by: Lori  Date: 7/8/14 06:23 PM

Robert, Thank you for contacting Cigar Bid. Your order will not be shipping today, so I will cancel your order as requested.Because this is a cancellation, typically a 15% restocking fee is assessed. However, as a one time courtesy, we will waive that restocking fee. If orders or bids are cancelled in the future, please note that the 15% restocking fee will be charged.I’m sorry that you are dissatisfied with our shipping times. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.Thank you, LoriCustomer Service

By "lackadaisical", do you mean "more than the 2-3 business days they advertise?"
I placed my order last Thursday and on Tuesday it still hasn't shipped, I'm sorry but that is not acceptable. How about not taking my money until the order ships. I'm sure things would move a lot faster!
So Thursday night is the night you mark as your end of the week, or whatever they call it?

EO #21 for lunch.
You really should smoke it rather than eat it.
well, you know what I meant.
2 swiss burgers on onion bagels, not too bad.
If there is a wrong way to take it, around here, we generally will purposely seem obtuse.  ???
Especially if doing so is semi-funny to us.

Now I'm curious.  If you're charging a Visa or MasterCard, they aren't supposed to actually charge before they ship, though they can place a transaction pending lock.  You're saying they actually charged?
I'm thinking, Fred thought, we would all jump on the dogpile.  Instead we are looking at both sides.
how dare we... ::)

LOL, it's uncharted territory for us, for sure.

Well, if they say orders are shipped out 2-3 business days after your week closes, and this was yesterday, that's really only the 2nd business day after the auctions closed. I know we piss and moan about shipping from time to time (read: every day), but you can't get too upset about it if they're still within the timeframe they set forth.

I placed an order with Amazon on Saturday, it was packed and ready to ship on Sunday, I received my stuff yesterday. Is it wrong to consider Cbid/Ci/Sprint/Cigar.com the "Amazon" of the cigar business?
Yes.

Their CotM doesn't ship until the 21st of said month. And that's for auto-ship.
It really doesn't matter in the long run.....just weird.

On a separate but similar note I ordered a watch for my wife's birthday from Amazon, I'm a member of Prime which means you get free 2-day shipping. Placed the order on Tuesday, July 1 and received the watch on Saturday, July 5. They didn't ship the watch until the 3rd but still fulfilled the 2-day claim. I didn't cancel the order like a bitch or anything, just a lesson learned, I still wanted the watch after all

I understand the age of instant gratification we live in, but does anyone actually NEED a cigar order within 3-5 days? Aren't you gonna rest them a bit anyway?

I wonder how many people would actually choose FREE Next Day Delivery if offered, as opposed to a $10-15 OFF coupon.

yes, they charged my debit card and I'm waiting for them to put it back!
Debit card rules are different than credit card, but even so...technically they haven't actually charged you.  They've placed a hold.  Now, the net effect is you can't use that money, so it's obviously a rather semantical difference.  It's the same procedure done if you use your debit card to pay at the pump for gas.  You slide the card, they place a hold for a certain amount of money, you pump the gas, then they charge for the actual amount used.  It's just that the hold and the actual transaction happen in such proximity that you don't think about it or care.

But legally it's an important distinction.  So long as the money is in your account, you have a greater capacity to nullify the transaction - which is why Lori didn't fight you on the cancellation (she'd have lost, and her "lecture" is mostly blowing smoke).  At least, you have greater capacity to nullify in the US, where the law still says the customer is presumed to be right.  Everywhere else in the world, forget it.  You have to prove the merchant is wrong.

Too late to cancel the order? There will be tax benefits for us though when they presumably grow to adults and earn money. And buy things here. Not all bad with these sorts of things. Plus think about how good our national soccer team will a couple world cups from now!

Enjoying a Tat Havani VI at the B&M. Went with the Angeles since Scott was yapping so much about them the other day.
Yapping?

West coast term? Talking so much about. Aka one or two posts. Anyhow you're right, it shines in this size. My favorite of the four sizes I've now had.

$4.95 so cheap enough to buy locally whenever I go to a shop. Always nice to have a rotation of cigars I can buy here on the cheap. Their inventory is a bit lacking this time. I was hoping to try a La Antieguedad but they didn't have any.

And you didn't have to worry about shipping!

Speaking of shipping... what's gonna happen to the 40,000+ kids coming from central America. We just gonna make 'em citizens and absorb all the living and medical costs. I feel bad, but that's a lot of fucking kids!
Might as well, we're going to absorb the cost anyway, and if we're going to absorb the cost we're better off to make them citizens so we can tax them and recoup the investment.

The problem with all the political bullshit over immigration policy is that neither side ever does any math.  It costs to keep them out of the country, it costs to ship them out of the country, and even if you keep them out or ship them out we pump billions in foreign aid into their country because that's how we grease the skids of business for US importers and exporters.  It's also how we go about preventing World Wars, but we'll stick to basics here.  Meanwhile, all the farmers on the east side of my state are employing the hell out of illegals so they can satisfy the public's demand for cheap produce, and the horse ranchers around my town are employing hell out illegals because high school students don't want to earn money mucking out stalls and corrals - and parents don't want their students working 20 hours a week anyway because that hurts their grades and chances for getting into college affordably.  But these same horse ranchers and farmers will pack political meetings demanding hard-line immigration policy because they really don't want the status quo changed.  If you decrease the supply of black-market labor, their labor costs go up and labor stability goes down.   They want the black market because it works for them AND it gives them the opportunity to bitch about liberals.  It's a win-win.

I'm conservative in political preference.  But the immigration debate is inflamed by math-illiterates on all sides.

On top of it all, the current workforce can't sustain the retirement of the Baby-Boomers.  We need an expanded labor pool.  Where's it going to come from?

On top of it all, the current workforce can't sustain the retirement of the Baby-Boomers.  We need an expanded labor pool.  Where's it going to come from?

being a BabyBoomer myself, and seeing the liberal approach to govt handouts and entitlements, I see more welfare recipients taking advantage of the benefits of not working. we need reforms from all sides.

Your V-cutter or the B&M's? Looks like a little snag there.

Shop's cutter. Cheapy. Got the job done, that was actually some loose tobacco from the cap that I removed, haha.
Good deal on some LT Ninfa's on CigarPlace.biz close out - $1.39 each.

Finally pulled the trigger on these. Was waiting for Early Bird, but the added 10% off more than made up for it. They started with 5 units this morning and are down to 2. Didn't figure they'd last much longer at that price.

I sure hope they ship on time. I want one NOW!  ;)

I haven't forgotten about you.  I was considering changing all the founding members to red white and blue.  Didn't get it done by July 4th.  Still wanna do it though.  Were you looking for just you to be a red star?  That will be trickier.

I don't care Tony, but me just having red stars would be nice. ha.

Raz,
On top of it all, the current workforce can't sustain the retirement of the Baby-Boomers.  We need an expanded labor pool.  Where's it going to come from?

being a BabyBoomer myself, and seeing the liberal approach to govt handouts and entitlements, I see more welfare recipients taking advantage of the benefits of not working. we need reforms from all sides.
Let me restate that I am a political and fiscal conservative by any rational definition.  I vote Republican and have since I cast my first presidential ballot for Reagan in 1984.

That said...welfare spending in this country has held steady at between 2.5% and 3% of GDP since the early 1970's when the '74 recession drove the rate to 2.5% of GDP.  Since then it has held approximately steady at 2.5%-3% of GDP with spikes corresponding to economic crises in '78, '81, '91-92, '01, and '07.  The '07 spike was the highest ever, to over 4.5% of GDP.  But it has dropped precipitiously and now sits below 3% of GDP.  That's still too high, for a conservative's preference, and needs to be dropped - if not back to 1963 (pre-Great Society) levels of 1.7% or so, then at least solidly back to late 1998-2001 levels (2.5%).  We can quibble all day over what the ideal level should be.  That's not the point here.

The point is this: the only reason "more people than ever" are consuming welfare benefits is that there ARE "more people than ever".  In 1965 the US populations was 195 million people, in 2010 it was 208 million.  Yet welfare spending has tended to hold steady between 2.5% and 3% of GDP since about 1970.  That means the percentage of the population that is receiving welfare hasn't really changed, and most of that population by far isn't receiving any welfare benefit.

Yes, there are more people receiving welfare, but there are more people producing in the economy too, and the rate of "welfare consumers" to "economic producers" hasn't really changed much.  In the grand scale of things, it hasn't really changed at all since 1970.

Smoking a My Father #1. Very, nice.
Enjoy that, my friend.  May smoke the lancero vitola tomorrow evening.
Very good cigar. I like all MF vitola's, but may smoke a MF Lancero tomorrow too.

Obviously, not much.  I'm actually working on automating the nightly flip.  Not gonna spend too much more time on it tonight.
