Hasn't been a fun week out here. In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, my brother Thad's wife Deanne took him to the ER, in severe abdominal pain and unable to keep food down. Partial bowel obstruction. They did a colonoscopy on Friday afternoon and pronounced it a cancerous tumor, biopsy to follow. Yesterday, because he was still in severe pain, they operated to insert an ileostomy appliance. The tumor was larger than anticipated and affecting surrounding tissues, so it needs to be shrunk with chemo before they can attempt to remove it.
My sister and I are keeping him company tonight so Deanne could go home, clean up, and sleep in a bed. We're still awaiting biopsy results and oncological consult, probably Tuesday.
Thad is 55 years old. Friday was his first colonoscopy. Ten years late. I've told him he was due over the years. Deanne has told him. She'd even finally scheduled one - for next week.
Fucking tough guy. Doesn't go to the doctor. Drinks more than he should.
Well, the clan is gearing up for war. We gotta get him through his one way or the other.
