November 27 is............ Pins and Needles Day

Pins and Needles Day might not have its origins in what you think! Though when we say ‘pins and you think! Though when we say ‘pins and needles’ today, you’ll think of that tingly feeling you get when your leg goes to sleep, the original Pins and Needles Day started up in 1937 to commemorate the opening of the pro-Labor musical play of the same name on Broadway. The production would eventually have a massive 1108 performance run, but its namesake day has grown to mean something else entirely.

History of Pins and Needles Day

The Broadway Play was produced by the International Ladies Garment Workers’ Union, and told the story of a group of workers holding down a job during the American Labor movement. It first graced the stage from 1937 to 1940, but did appear again in 1978 and appeared on London stages as recently as 2010. The cast of the original production was made up of sewing machine workers, cutters and basters who simply wanted to do something a little creative in their free time – the play would end up to be so successful that the cast members, who up until then were only able to rehearse at weekends – were able to quit their day jobs and take part in a full 8-weekly show performance schedule.

Pins and Needles was written by Harold Rome, a true Renaissance man who played piano in local dance bands while writing music, studying architecture, and pursuing a law degree at the prestigious Yale University. He brought all of those skills together when he produced Pins and Needles, and created a legend that would live on through the ages while pursuing a form of social justice little heard of its time.

New Orleans (WWL TV) Ten shot, one killed on Bourbon Street

One of the ten people shot on Bourbon Street early Sunday morning has died.

According to NOPD, ten people were shot near the intersection of Iberville and Bourbon Streets. One of the victims, only identified as a male, has died. No other information is currently available.

Two arrests were made for illegal carrying of a firearm.

The rest of the story:

Thirty police officers were already in the same block as part of extra patrols following the earlier Bayou Classic college football game and were able to respond quickly.

The Bayou Classic is the annual college football game between the Grambling State University Tigers and the Southern University Jaguars.

Texas Hat Company Makes Commemorative President Trump Cowboy Hat…

TEXAS – It was through acquaintances that [American Hat Co.] was asked to make Trump an authentic cowboy hat. Mundee said Trump, during a campaign stop recently, had mentioned the quality of Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller’s cowboy hat. Treasure Maddox, daughter of American Hat Co. owners Keith and Susan Maddox, and her significant other, Andrew Graves, are acquaintances with Eric Trump, Donald Trump’s second oldest son.

It was after the night of the Nov. 8 election that Eric had asked if American Hat Co. could make a custom hat for his father. Soon after, the manufacturer was at work getting measurements ready as well as the materials befitting the president of the United States.

“It morphed into now we’re making hats for Eric, for Don Jr. and for Mike Pence as well,” Mundee said.

Mundee said the Trump family requested a light-colored hat versus black, so the manufacturer went with a silverish tone. The material is a mixture of beaver belly fur and mink, making the hat soft as silk. The crown, or top of the hat, is done in a cattleman’s style. He said this specific style of hat is widely known as the finest in the cowboy market.

And it’s not just the material that American Hat Co. uses that puts their stamp on the product. It’s also the gold foil stamp on the inside band that also illustrates its quality, as well as the Keith Maddox mark of “KM” on the brim of the hat. The hat retails for about $2,800.

College Students Demand Police Investigate "Suck It Up, Pussies" Post-It Note

Today we learn of yet another campus full of disaffected Hillary snowflakes who were triggered by a post-it note suggesting that they should stop whining about the election and just "suck it up, pussies."  This latest example comes to us from Edgewood College in the ultra-liberal bastion of Madison, Wisconsin via Campus Reform.

Apparently the simple post-it note was determined to be a "hate crime" by the college's "diversity offices" and students with knowledge of the incident were encouraged to contact campus police.  To our complete shock, a message from Edgewood's Vice President for Student Development pinned the blame for the "hate crime" on Trump, saying that it is part of a growing trend of "covert micro-aggressions and overt macro-aggressions" that have "taken on new fervor in higher education since our national election."

Today is Sunday, Nov. 27, the 332nd day of 2016. There are 34 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On Nov. 27, 1978, San Francisco Mayor George Moscone (mahs-KOH'-nee) and City Supervisor Harvey Milk, a gay-rights activist, were shot to death inside City Hall by former supervisor Dan White. (White served five years for manslaughter; he committed suicide in Oct. 1985.)

On this date:

In 1815, the constitution for the Congress Kingdom of Poland was signed by Russian Czar Alexander I, who was also king of Poland.

In 1901, the U.S. Army War College was established in Washington, D.C.

In 1910, New York's Pennsylvania Station officially opened.

In 1924, Macy's first Thanksgiving Day parade - billed as a "Christmas Parade" - took place in New York.

In 1939, the play "Key Largo," by Maxwell Anderson, opened at the Ethel Barrymore Theater in New York.

In 1942, during World War II, the Vichy French navy scuttled its ships and submarines in Toulon (too-LOHN') to keep them out of the hands of German troops.

In 1945, General George C. Marshall was named special U.S. envoy to China by President Harry S. Truman to try to end hostilities between the Nationalists and the Communists.

In 1953, playwright Eugene O'Neill died in Boston at age 65.

In 1962, the first Boeing 727 was rolled out at the company's Renton Plant.

In 1973, the Senate voted 92-3 to confirm Gerald R. Ford as vice president, succeeding Spiro T. Agnew, who'd resigned.

In 1983, 181 people were killed when a Colombian Avianca Airlines Boeing 747 crashed near Madrid's Barajas airport.

In 1989, a bomb blamed on drug traffickers destroyed a Colombian Avianca Boeing 727, killing all 107 people on board and three people on the ground.

Ten years ago: President George W. Bush, stopping over in Estonia en route to a NATO summit in Latvia and meetings in Jordan, intensified diplomatic efforts to quell rising violence in Iraq and Afghanistan. An early morning fire burned down a group home for the elderly and mentally ill in Anderson, Missouri, killing 10 residents and a caretaker. (Faulty wiring was cited as the likely cause of the blaze.)

Five years ago: In an unprecedented move against an Arab nation, the Arab League approved economic sanctions against Syria to pressure Damascus to end its deadly suppression of an 8-month-old uprising against President Bashar Assad. British movie director Ken Russell, 84, died in Lymington, Hampshire, England.

One year ago: A gunman attacked a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado, killing three people and injuring nine. (Suspect Robert Dear has been undergoing treatment at a psychiatric hospital after being deemed incompetent for trial.) A subdued France paid homage to those killed in the Paris attacks two weeks earlier, honoring each of the 130 victims by name as President Francois Hollande (frahn-SWAH' oh-LAWND') pledged to "destroy the army of fanatics" who had claimed so many young lives.

Received my Warheads and Neanderthals yesterday. The Warheads are almost panatellas
Well all Lanceros are almost Panatela's and many Panatela's are almost Lanceros

The standard Cuban measurement for a lancero is 7 1/2 inches long by 38 ring gauge.

That happens to be the exact size of the Warhead III's as well as the  Tatuaje Especiale Lanceros,

Panatela's are generally similar to Coronas only they are usualy longer and thinner. They have the Parejo shape and are relatively unfashionable. Their typical sizes are 5.5 to 7 inches in length and have a ring gauge of 34 to 38.

Got them working for us that have been out 10+ years and the same pussified mentality as when they started.  One in particular, a big ole strong boy graduated from FL State with a degree in structural engineering 5 years ago and one of the biggest whiners in the office since 3 others quit.

He loved the pumpkin carving contest and the masquerade retreat - thinks we should do that sort of silly chit several times a year.

NOT Me! :(

A lottery ticket sold in Tennessee had the winning numbers for a $421 million Powerball jackpot, one of the biggest on record, officials said after Saturday's draw.

The winning numbers selected were 17, 19, 21, 37, 44, with the Powerball 16. No one as yet had stepped forward to claim the prize, which grew in size since Sept. 17, the last time anyone matched all six numbers.

The jackpot soared from $403 million to a reported $420.9 million on Saturday due to a spate of late ticket-buying.

The hat retails for about $2,800.
they better start working on a Hilary recount hat.

Evening all. Hope everyone isn't dreading the end of the holiday weekend too much.

Was wondering if anyone has any experience with this CI deal. The shills in marketing claim a 95 rating, but some reviews over there are less that laudatory. Can anyone attest to the 95ness of these cigars?

IMFO the greens are the top, followed by the La Bomba line, which has more than a few fans here.  The 601 Blue is decent, also. That's a helluva sampler price worth your while to try the line, especially if you can swing free shipping.

Yeah. Trying to work that out now. I think it's free shipping over there at 49 bucks. At 150 it's a $40 coupon... Trying to see if there is enough worth while to load up for that. Looks like the 601 is the best bargain of the lot so far.

I've purchased this one before at the same price. It's a good deal for $20. The LaBomba and the Green are the best ones. The Blue and Red are decent too. The Steel rod is the only questionable stick in the lineup.

Alright. I might pass on the Flores y Rodgriguez box. I thought it wasn't bad at $20. Might be worth a try. I'm working on putting together CI order, and a stockpile.

I DID put together what I think to be a pretty good setup at Famous using the $40 off $150+.
I have the following coming:
2x the 601 sampler mentioned above (20 sticks)
1x the AB Elite sampler (10 sticks)
1x Ultimate Wingman 10+10 #12 (10 La Gloria Cubana and 10 Oliva G)
1x Gran Habano top shelf sampler (20 sticks)

All in all, I've got some really solid cigars, some really decent cigars, some humidification, and a couple cheap cutters I am out for under $140. That's less than $2 a stick with the odds and ends to boot. Not bad!

...now to finish up my CI order. Hahaha  ;D

I have an empty humi. Not really been smoking the past few years except for the odd one here and there, hence the absence of posting. I've missed it though, both the smoking and the hobby. I was on the hunt for some value smokes and was gifted a couple for the holiday by a good BOTL. Since then I decided to load up!
