It's Tuesday again! In between insults we'll occasionally discuss cigars.  Join in and perhaps learn something along the way. Warning: don't proceed if you have thin skin but don't be afraid to post either... And welcome aboard!

Tropics are getting busy with the remains of Fiona and now Tropical Storm Gaston.  Neither is expected to reach the U.S.    Also there is a tropical disturbance that could further develop this week and possibly effect the U.S.

Today is Tuesday, Aug. 23, the 236th day of 2016. There are 130 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On Aug. 23, 1926, legendary silent film star Rudolph Valentino died in New York at age 31.

On this date:

In 1305, Scottish rebel leader Sir William Wallace was executed by the English for treason.

In 1775, Britain's King George III proclaimed the American colonies to be in a state of "open and avowed rebellion."

In 1858, "Ten Nights in a Bar-room," a play by Timothy Shay Arthur about the perils of alcohol, opened in New York.

In 1913, Copenhagen's Little Mermaid statue, inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen story, was unveiled in the harbor of the Danish capital.

In 1914, Japan declared war against Germany in World War I.

In 1927, amid protests, Italian-born anarchists Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were executed in Boston for the murders of two men during a 1920 robbery.

In 1939, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union agreed to a non-aggression treaty, the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, in Moscow.

In 1944, Romanian Prime Minister Ion Antonescu was dismissed by King Michael, paving the way for Romania to abandon the Axis in favor of the Allies.

In 1960, Broadway librettist Oscar Hammerstein (HAM'-ur-STYN') II, 65, died in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

In 1973, a bank robbery-turned-hostage-taking began in Stockholm, Sweden; the four hostages ended up empathizing with their captors, a psychological condition now referred to as "Stockholm Syndrome."

In 1982, Lebanon's parliament elected Christian militia leader Bashir Gemayel president. (However, Gemayel was assassinated some three weeks later.)

In 1989, in a case that inflamed racial tensions in New York, Yusuf Hawkins, a 16-year-old black teen, was shot dead after he and his friends were confronted by a group of white youths in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn. (Gunman Joey Fama was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison; he will be eligible for parole in 2022.)

Ten years ago: A previously unknown militant group released the first video of two Fox News journalists who'd been kidnapped in Gaza. (Reporter Steve Centanni and cameraman Olaf Wiig were later freed.) The Citadel released the results of a survey in which almost 20 percent of female cadets reported being sexually assaulted since enrolling at the South Carolina military college. Jazz trumpeter Maynard Ferguson died in Ventura, California, at age 78.

Five years ago: A pair of judges in New York put an end to the sensational sexual assault case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn, setting him free after prosecutors questioned the credibility of the hotel housekeeper who'd accused the French diplomat. A magnitude 5.8 earthquake centered near Mineral, Virginia, the strongest on the East Coast since 1944, caused cracks in the Washington Monument and damaged Washington National Cathedral.

One year ago: Islamic State militants destroyed a temple at ancient ruins of Palmyra in Syria, realizing the worst fears of archaeologists had for the fate of the 2,000-year-old Roman-era city after the extremists seized it and beheaded a local scholar. The United Arab Emirates said its military had freed a British hostage, Robert Douglas Semple, who was kidnapped 18 months earlier ago by al-Qaida in Yemen. Ohio State became the first unanimous preseason No. 1 in The Associated Press college football poll. Roger Federer remained perfect in Cincinnati finals, winning an unprecedented seventh championship, 7-6 (1), 6-3, while denying Novak Djokovic the one title that had always eluded him.

Must be cutting into the weed sales!

Colorado Voters Could Increase Cigar Tax

Colorado’s already oppressive tobacco tax could get worse if a petition submitted to the Secretary of State’s office yesterday gets certified and approved by voters on the November ballot. A group known as Campaign for a Healthy Colorado submitted more than 165,000 signatures in support of getting Initiative #143 included as part of the fall election, which seeks to raise the tobacco tax by 22% of the manufacturer’s list price and the cigarette tax by $1.75 per pack of cigarettes. The Secretary of State’s office will now conduct a a 5 percent random sample of submitted signatures to determine whether the proposals meet the threshold to make the ballot, which is 98,492 valid voter signatures. The results of that sample must be announced by Sept. 7. Currently, cigar and other non-cigarette tobacco products are taxed at 40% of the manufacturer’s invoiced price. Should the initiative pass, that would jump to 62%. For a cigar with an MSRP of $9.50, the pre-sales tax price at the register would jump from $13.30 to $15.39 by halfwheel estimates.

So a $9.50 cigar that we would be willing to pay around $6-7 max for delivered would cost you around $16.75 in CO at the local shop, Fuk That!

Texas high school's budget-busting stadium to cost $70M

Voters in McKinney approved a $63.5 million stadium in May, but just three months later, planners have called an audible -- tacking on another $6.5 million to the cost of the 12,000-seat gridiron showcase. The stadium will top a $62.5 million, 12,000-seat facility under construction in Katy and a $60 million stadium that opened in Allen in 2014 to become the costliest ever to host prep pigskin.

Perhaps this will teach the pompous bastard a lesson!

Ryan Lochte is losing all his endorsements after he admitted to making up a story about being robbed at gunpoint while at the 2016 Olympics.

Speedo USA and Japanese mattress maker Airweave said Monday that they were ending their partnership with the embattled U.S. swimmer. Ralph Lauren also said it would not renew his contract.

Lochte had about $1 million in endorsements at the time of the incident, ESPN reported citing unnamed industry experts

I posted twice this morning and they both disappeared. This site sucks! Anyone else having similar issues? Likely a Tapatalk problem.
Tapatalk can be glitchy, though I would not discount a coding issue related to star colors and automatic flippage.
Does that explain the near 2-hour delay in the "automatic" flippage this morning? ;)
D'oh. Didn't think anyone caught that. Would you believe I moved my servers to Mountain Timezone?

Another reason to vote TRUMP, he is coming to Downtown Austin at 2:00 and I get to go home early to avoid the traffic confusion and protestors.
Has he told a whole city to GFY yet?
He is coming to have dinner and pick up some checks from the 3 non-commie billionaires in town.

They'll have to wear bags over their heads when entering and leaving.

He was in Akron last night, and talked about electing him so that they could stop walking down the street and getting shot all the time. So maybe?

Gonna be 82 here today, and not nearly so muggy, but it's gonna be miserable.  When I was living in Arizona, I was acclimatized to 105 degree temps.  Now? Not so much. And humidity makes it worse.  Feels like suffocating.
