I got little done yesterday because I spent a bunch of time on the phone with my health insurance company. What a fiasco.

Tons of actual work to finish before the end of the year. I'll be scarce for the next few days.

Morning Mayor, seems like I saw a similar statement from General last week.

Edit:

It was Perdomo not General
PERDOMO INCREASING PRICES ON MOST LINES IN 2019

Effective Jan. 1, 2019 the price of most Perdomo cigars will increase.

Like many will eventually do, Perdomo has announced a price increase for 2019.

That BS Dallas Bowl Deal is about ridiculous, I see lawsuits over the horizon with that one.  They only “sold and gave away” about 14,600 tickets.  Then the City says the tickets are “non refundable “ well when you sell tickets to something then don’t perform the game that will get you sued every time.

it was the last rescue kitten at animal control. 12-14 weeks old and never been out of a cage. I decided to foster it to get it out of the cage and shelter and into a good home, not knowing how my cat would take to it. Christmas day I signed the adoption papers. the shelter said it was a female, it's not, but it's fixed. his name is Shei, meaning Gift of God.

Today in History

Today is Thursday, Dec. 27, the 361st day of 2018. There are four days left in the year.

Today’s Highlight in History:
On Dec. 27, 1979, Soviet forces seized control of Afghanistan. President Hafizullah Amin (hah-FEE’-zoo-lah ah-MEEN’), who was overthrown and executed, was replaced by Babrak Karmal.
On this date:
In 1831, naturalist Charles Darwin set out on a round-the-world voyage aboard the HMS Beagle.
In 1904, James Barrie’s play “Peter Pan: The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up” opened at the Duke of York’s Theater in London.
In 1945, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund were formally established.
In 1947, the original version of the puppet character Howdy Doody made his TV debut on NBC’s “Puppet Playhouse.”
In 1949, Queen Juliana of the Netherlands signed an act recognizing Indonesia’s sovereignty after more than three centuries of Dutch rule.
In 1968, Apollo 8 and its three astronauts made a safe, nighttime splashdown in the Pacific.
In 1970, the musical play “Hello, Dolly!” closed on Broadway after a run of 2,844 performances.
In 1981, composer and bandleader Hoagy Carmichael (“Stardust”) died in Rancho Mirage, Calif., at age 82.
In 1985, Palestinian guerrillas opened fire inside the Rome and Vienna airports; 19 victims were killed, plus four attackers who were slain by police and security personnel. American naturalist Dian Fossey, 53, who had studied gorillas in the wild in Rwanda, was found hacked to death.
In 1995, Israeli jeeps sped out of the West Bank town of Ramallah, capping a seven-week pullout giving Yasser Arafat control over 90 percent of the West Bank’s one million Palestinian residents and one-third of its land.
In 2001, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld announced that Taliban and al-Qaida prisoners would be held at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
In 2002, A defiant North Korea ordered U.N. nuclear inspectors to leave the country and said it would restart a laboratory capable of producing plutonium for nuclear weapons; the U.N. nuclear watchdog said its inspectors were “staying put” for the time being.

Ten years ago: Israel bombed security sites in Hamas-ruled Gaza in retaliation for rocket fire aimed at civilians in southern Israeli towns, opening one of the Mideast conflict’s bloodiest assaults in decades. Tens of thousands of people in Pakistan paid homage to Benazir Bhutto on the one-year anniversary of her assassination.

Five years ago: Connecticut police released thousands of pages from their investigation into the Newtown massacre, providing the most detailed and disturbing picture yet of the Dec. 14, 2012, shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that left 20 first-graders and six educators dead.

One year ago: Freezing temperatures and below-zero wind chills socked much of the northern United States. Houston Astros star second baseman Jose Altuve was named AP Male Athlete of the Year after leading the team to its first World Series title. A power outage struck parts of Disneyland in California, forcing some guests to be escorted from stalled rides.

Independent of the bowl, BC already has offered to refund tickets and offer a free ticket to a sporting event next year.  Non bowl game is going to be very expensive for them.

The current arrangement for most bowl games requires each team to purchase like 15 K tickets.  So for these third rate bowls, teams end up giving away tickets for local charities and such just to get some bodies in the seats.

The major question is are the teams getting the minimum payouts and if so who is going to pay it.  The City of Dallas paid (subsidized) ESPN $300,000 to have the bowl but that is not anywhere near the total minimum payouts.

Both teams are refunding ticket purchases bought through their Athletic Departments.

The truth about raising cigars is real. The deadline for FDA payment is upon the manufacturers. The FDA did nothing but postpone their proposed bill. On top of this big hit. Many manufacturers had to hire lawyers to try and comply with the legalities of the "ingredients" the FDA has proposed. Manufacturers have spent tens of thousands of dollars. All for preparing for regulations them and us hope never go into effect. The fight is real and we need to do all we can as Americans to fight the FDA. Don't be upset at the manufacturers be upset at the FDA and do all you can. Follow Cigar Rights of America and write your Congressmen.

I'm all for CRA and have been a member for years. I've even written my congressman a bunch of times. The thing that gets me is that prices had been previously raised based on what the FDA was going to do. The decisions have been postponed for so long that now the manufacturers are looking to raise prices again. In the end, the consumer always gets the shaft.

It's not important. I was responding to a note you sent on December 5th that ended up in my SPAM folder. I assume all is good now?

In an effort to do some serious procrastinating, I finally gave SeriousCigars a call regarding my order from November 24th... They said they would overnight it and give me back 15% for dropping the ball and not responding to my email inquiries. Let's see what happens.

I’ll go with most of Tony’s version, the CRA is a B.S. Lobbying business that the cigar retailers and manufacturers want their customers to pay for rather than themselves paying for it.

Lots of rain last night but supposed to be a nice day today.  Brought my range bag to the office with hopes I can slip past the HR prick and go prepare for the coming zombie apocalypse.
I got pulled over the other night and couldn't remember if I took my pistol out of the side pocket of my golf bag. what a fiasco that was.
Just hit them with a nine iron, what golf shot requires a pistol?

i got a corn muffin here at the desk, but I had the Italian seafood salad(shrimp, scunguilli,
squid, celery, flat leaf parsley, dressed in Olive oil & lemon juice), from Christmas eve
for breakfast, while watching Good Morning America.  Never guess what
auto correct wanted to change scunguilli to!

as it was I couldn't remember if I took it out of my golf bag, so when the officer came to the window I told him that. side pocket in back of truck. rubber trigger plug, chamber empty, magazine not seated, plus spare in holster. so out of the truck, up against his front bumper and handcuffed for 'safety'. luckily the tonneau cover was locked. told him the key was with the ignition key. by the time he unlocked the tonneau cover there was back up. thank God the pocket was empty. I said I guess I put it in my night stand and he requested that when I got home to check and let the sheriff office know in case it was stolen. he then asked if I had any more weapons in the truck. yes, razor knife side door pocket front seat, machete under the carpet in back, various folding hunting knives in the glove box. by the time all was said and done I asked why he pulled me over. headlight out driver side. I walked to the front of the truck, hit the lens with my hand and it came on. I still have to fix that bulb. no tickets, just alot of wasted time because I can't remember shit.

Nice smoke!!!

I have a few Basins loose in the humi and one more full box left from the Famous blowout a couple of years ago.  They were like $70-80/box and I sure wish I had bought a couple more of them.

It's been roughly that long since I've purchased a V, and that's probably why.

I recall getting a lot of draw problems.  Inconsistent construction, and plenty of great sticks to be had at the price point.

Never noted many draw problems and the  newer ones frequently have moderate burn issues but the taste is not even similar to the originals.

This cigar needs to be buried in the humidor. It has a "stale" flavor. I'm guessing it has been months since it was properly cared for. Burn and draw is fine but the flavors are suffering.

It's definitely smokable. In fact, it has improved dramatically. With proper downtime this cigar will be excellent. I like the fact that I smoked one OTT so that I will more clearly notice the improvements.

Some very sad news to report regarding our BOTL.

Richard Overton, once America's oldest living WWII veteran, dies at 112

Lately, Overton had spent many of his days on the front porch of the home he built 70 years ago. His friends called it his "stage." It's on Richard Overton Avenue, as the town renamed the street for his 111th birthday. That's where Overton smoked his 12 daily cigars -- Tampa Sweet Perfectos -- and sometimes enjoyed his favorite drink, a whiskey and Coke.

Overton was born on May 11, 1906, the same year as the first wireless radio broadcast, and a year before Oklahoma became a state. He was 5 years old when the Titanic sank.

The Army veteran fought in World War II in a segregated unit. After returning from war, he spent the bulk of his career working at furniture stores, then at the Texas Department of Treasury.
