Last week, I mentioned I received a mystery box from an old friend and neighbor of Dean (non cigar smoker). Finally got around to opening it. Not sure who blends these but Yanko Maceda is the Cuban-American founder of Tabanero Cigars. Even came with a stand. I'll let you know how it is when I smoke one. Hopefully sooner than later.

In preparation for St. Patrick's Day, a top 5 Irish Whiskey brand list...

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/top-5-irish-whiskey-brands-worldwide/ss-AAUzwnq?ocid=msedgntp

Tullamore Dew?  Really?  I used to work in Tullamore (although it is now distilled in Dublin).  Irish rotgut.
Looks like this list is just based on sales volume, although #1 Jamison is quality and quantity. (and Jamison has a lot of options)
Some of the Honorable mentions are nice however, Writer's Tears, Powers.

Lets see if I can find a list of Best Irish Whiskeys...

Today is Monday, March 7, the 66th day of 2022.
There are 299 days left in the year.

Today’s Highlight in History:

On March 7, 1965, a march by civil rights demonstrators was violently broken up at the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, by state troopers and a sheriff’s posse in what came to be known as “Bloody Sunday.”

On this date:

In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell received a U.S. patent for his telephone.

In 1911, President William Howard Taft ordered 20,000 troops to patrol the U.S.-Mexico border in response to the Mexican Revolution.

In 1916, Bavarian Motor Works (BMW) had its beginnings in Munich, Germany, as an airplane engine manufacturer.

In 1926, the first successful trans-Atlantic radio-telephone conversations took place between New York and London.

In 1936, Adolf Hitler ordered his troops to march into the Rhineland, thereby breaking the Treaty of Versailles (vehr-SY’) and the Locarno Pact.

In 1945, during World War II, U.S. forces crossed the Rhine at Remagen, Germany, using the damaged but still usable Ludendorff Bridge.

In 1975, the U.S. Senate revised its filibuster rule, allowing 60 senators to limit debate in most cases, instead of the previously required two-thirds of senators present.

In 1994, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled that a parody that pokes fun at an original work can be considered “fair use.” (The ruling concerned a parody of the Roy Orbison song “Oh, Pretty Woman” by the rap group 2 Live Crew.)

In 1999, movie director Stanley Kubrick, whose films included “Dr. Strangelove,” “A Clockwork Orange” and “2001: A Space Odyssey,” died in Hertfordshire, England, at age 70, having just finished editing “Eyes Wide Shut.”

In 2005, President George W. Bush nominated John Bolton to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, an appointment that ran into Democratic opposition, prompting Bush to make a recess appointment.

In 2016, Peyton Manning announced his retirement after 18 seasons in the National Football League.

In 2020, health officials in Florida said two people who had tested positive for the new coronavirus had died; the deaths were the first on the East Coast attributed to the outbreak.

Ten years ago: President Barack Obama, speaking at a Daimler truck plant in Mount Holly, North Carolina, made his most urgent appeal to date for the nation to wean itself from oil, calling it a “fuel of the past” and demanding that the United States broaden its approach to energy. The Indianapolis Colts released injured quarterback Peyton Manning, who went on to play for the Denver Broncos.

Five years ago: WikiLeaks published thousands of documents described as secret files about CIA hacking tools the government employed to break into users’ computers, mobile phones and even smart TVs from companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft and Samsung. The Commerce Department reported the U.S. trade deficit jumped in January 2017 by 9.6 percent to $48.5 billion, the highest level in nearly five years as a flood of mobile phones and other consumer products widened America’s trade gap with China. A freight train smashed into a charter bus at a rail crossing in Biloxi, Mississippi, leaving four people dead.

One year ago: In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, their first since they stepped aside from royal duties, Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, spoke of racism and mistreatment from within the royal family; Meghan, who is biracial, said the palace had failed to help her when she had suicidal thoughts, and that a member of the royal family had raised “concerns” about the color of her baby’s skin when she was pregnant with her son, Archie. Pope Francis wrapped up a historic whirlwind tour of Iraq that sought to bring hope to the country’s marginalized Christian minority. Team LeBron romped to a 170-150 win over Team Durant in the NBA’s 70th All-Star Game.

The Frontier League has a team near my parent's house, I'm guessing their attendance is going to get a big boost this year. They're probably hoping the lockout goes on indefinitely.

Tried to get a beer conversation going last night, Raz was the only one who participated.
For those who missed it, it was an alleged list of the best beers from each state. Some yahoos insisted that the best beer in Washington was some cinnamon mocha thing from Fremont. They must have only run the poll in Fremont. Fremont is a punchline amongst Washingtonians. In a metroplex full of fruits and nuts, Fremont is the nuttiest borough of all.

The best beer from Washington is Irish Death from the Iron Horse brewery in Ellensburg, and any remotely honest poll of Washingtonians is going to reflect that.

Beautiful the last 2 days, but that ship has sailed. Was awfully nice while it lasted.
Just a nice tease.
I'll take it. Gives us a nice reminder of what's in store coming soon.
We'll be crying for cooler weather soon enough.

I definitely won't be. Bring on the heat and humidity, I say. But my wife will be complaining about it loud enough for both of us. Hell, it got up to 73 yesterday and she was bitching about it. Lol

Better Irish Whiskey list...IMHO

https://luxe.digital/lifestyle/dining/best-irish-whiskey/#:~:text=The%2015%20best%20Irish%20whiskeys%20%20%20,%20Best%20tasting%20%2011%20more%20rows%20

I've had Knappogue Castle, Bushmills, Redbreast, Jamison (of course), Yellow Spot and Connemara which are all very nice.  Irish whiskey has been late to the craft resurgence, but I lot of nice ones emerging.  Even Tullamore Dew is coming out with special small batches that have gotten good review although I have not sampled.

Also like Sexton, Green Spot, Teeling, Glendalough and West Cork.

In preparation for St. Patrick's Day, a top 5 Irish Whiskey brand list...

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/top-5-irish-whiskey-brands-worldwide/ss-AAUzwnq?ocid=msedgntp

Tullamore Dew?  Really?  I used to work in Tullamore (although it is now distilled in Dublin).  Irish rotgut.
Looks like this list is just based on sales volume, although #1 Jamison is quality and quantity. (and Jamison has a lot of options)
Some of the Honorable mentions are nice however, Writer's Tears, Powers.

Lets see if I can find a list of Best Irish Whiskeys...
Tullamore Dew is drinkable, passably. Barely. Jameson is drinkable too, but any Irishman will tell you it's whiskey made for Americans.

My sister's ex-boyfriend Colin Geary, God rest his soul, managed the best Irish pub in Seattle - the Owl & Thistle, in Post Alley - which his family owned. He introduced me to the Paddy, and I've been a fan ever since.

My favorite Irish is the Green Spot, which was introduced to me by the congenial and eminently cool proprietor of a terrific Irish Pub in Las Vegas called McMullan's. I recommend the place, and the Green Spot.

I think any attempt to get terribly "boutique" with Irish whiskey is a put-on. It's triple-distilled and unpeated. By the time you've distilled anything three times you have pretty much reduced its complexity to fundamentals. So you are mostly tasting the barrel it's aged in. And unlike Scotch, aging Irish for more than about 7 years saps it of whatever complexity was left.

(For that matter, I agree with distilling demigod Jim McEwen that aging Scotch beyond about 20 years removes most of its magic.)

Driving range balls are like MLB players practicing with pool cues instead of actual bats. I don't pay any attention to distances at the range, just trying to get the swing grooved.

Honestly, my favorite Scotch is the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. It's a twelve-year-old, and Port-cask finished. After 12 years, you're paying an increasingly high price for smoothness.

A Brit I encountered in Atlanta years ago scoffed at my fancy for Glenmorangie. "Scotch for a LADY!" he insisted.

"You'll forgive me," I replied evenly, "for not taking seriously any culinary criticism from the land that considers Spotted Dick a dessert."

The bartender about pissed himself.

You can use the equivalent formula d = rt which means distance equals rate times time. To solve for speed or rate use the formula for speed, s = d/t which means speed equals distance divided by time. To solve for time use the formula for time, t = d/s which means time equals distance divided by speed.

He's probably around Dean's age. We used to work together. He has since moved to the Tampa area. So, yes.
that's like saying TravellinDave and RedfishDave are neighbors.
Is it really?
Sorry, I just can't drop this one.
have you ever driven from Crystal River to Tampa? trust me, it has nothing to do with distance.
I get it. It's still two hours away. I'm just busting your balls. I didn't put TexasDave in the correct spot either. But why are we going to let facts get in the way of quality banter?
You ought to save and expand on that map.  Good one.

#79: Latitude Zero & Oliva Serie 'V' Melanio - 10/44.99
CAO Flathead Steel Horse Apehanger - 5/24.99

There's a fact!
But are they really that Wicked? I say no. #reallyrealnews
But seriously, definitely a Diesel I was disappointed in. They're not bad, just not special, and certainly not the full-flavored bomb I was hoping for.
And pricy!  Heck, I got it as part of a well discounted sampler and still thought I overpaid.

Luckily Delirium and Esteli Puro came along to save the day... Pricing says AJ knows they are much better than the others.

I agree on all counts, the whole lot of them was underwhelming. Having had any of the newer ones, so hopefully those'll be some redemption for me.

Raining here but I'm in the Man cave
I wasted my day away working. I was hoping to get a cigar in while it was still nice out but it already got windy and brought the rains in. I suspect it will feel close to freezing by early tomorrow morning, when I am heading back into the office.

I kind of have one. I can smoke in the garage but I don't have the time at the moment. Still wrapping up work stuff and the wifi doesn't reach there.

Definitely sounds like an extender could help. We've got one in the kitchen for our signal to reach the man cave.
