I'm happy to hear it. I'm sure 20 years flew by in an instant. You must remember to enjoy each day because life is short.

I am, though I started an hour late so I could sleep in a bit. I've already spoken with the school 3 times today, and there's still some doubt about when the youngest can go back, since she's not vaccinated. I've already gotten 2 answers, now waiting on the third. Lol

They are wearing masks in school? And if I recall, she tested negative and is not showing any symptoms?

In the meantime, is she just out or can she participate virtually?

Everyone is in masks at school. The oldest is the only one we tested, since she was the only one showing symptoms. She can go back on the 23rd (10 days after the test). The middle one who has no symptoms and is vaxxed can still be there, so she'll be back tomorrow. It's the timing of the unvaxxed one they don't seem to have a grasp on quite yet.

FIL has also now tested positive. We suspected as much since he'd lost his sense of taste and smell, even though he first test said negative. But it's hitting him pretty hard. In his words, "feels like I laid in the street while a gang kicked the crap out of me."

That is how I felt in March of last year. It did not help that there was not even 5k that tested positive in the whole state when I was diagnosed. I was hospitalized on day 1 for the fever and confusion.  No one knew what it was. They even wanted to do a spinal tap which I refused. I got a call days later from my physician. It was hard because everything I was watching on tv was bad. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. Now I just try to leave everything in God's hands because fear is no way to live.  Yet fear is a common theme these days.

Fear is definitely no way to live. But having a healthy respect for something that has killed millions is not living in fear, it's living intelligently.

Today is Thursday, Sept. 16, the 259th day of 2021.
There are 106 days left in the year.

On Sept. 16, 1974, President Gerald R. Ford announced a conditional amnesty program for Vietnam war deserters and draft-evaders.

In 1630, the Massachusetts village of Shawmut changed its name to Boston.

In 1810, Mexico began its revolt against Spanish rule.

In 1908, General Motors was founded in Flint, Mich., by William C. Durant.

In 1940, Samuel T. Rayburn of Texas was elected Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

In 1982, the massacre of between 1,200 and 1,400 Palestinian men, women and children at the hands of Israeli-allied Christian Phalange militiamen began in west Beirut’s Sabra and Shatila refugee camps.

In 1987, two dozen countries signed the Montreal Protocol, a treaty designed to save the Earth’s ozone layer by calling on nations to reduce emissions of harmful chemicals by the year 2000.

In 2001, President George W. Bush, speaking on the South Lawn of the White House, said there was “no question” Osama bin Laden and his followers were the prime suspects in the Sept. 11 attacks; Bush pledged the government would “find them, get them running and hunt them down.”

In 2007, contractors for the U.S. security firm Blackwater USA guarding a U.S. State Department convoy in Baghdad opened fire on civilian vehicles, mistakenly believing they were under attack; 14 Iraqis died. O.J. Simpson was arrested in the alleged armed robbery of sports memorabilia collectors in Las Vegas. (Simpson was later convicted of kidnapping and armed robbery and sentenced to nine to 33 years in prison; he was released in 2017.)

In 2012, in appearances on Sunday news shows, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, said there was no evidence that the attack on the U.S. diplomatic outpost in Benghazi, Libya, was premeditated. But Libya’s interim president, Mohammed el-Megarif, told CBS he had no doubt attackers spent months planning the assault and purposely chose the date, September 11.

In 2013, Aaron Alexis, a former U.S. Navy reservist, went on a shooting rampage inside the Washington Navy Yard, killing 12 people before being shot dead by police.

In 2014, President Barack Obama declared that the Ebola epidemic in West Africa could threaten security around the world and ordered 3,000 U.S. troops to the region in emergency aid muscle.

Ten years ago: President Barack Obama signed into law a major overhaul of the nation’s patent system to ease the way for inventors to bring their products to market. A World War II-era fighter plane plunged into spectators during air races in Reno, Nevada, killing 74-year-old Florida stunt pilot Jimmy Leeward and 10 others. A Russian Soyuz capsule carrying three crew members, including NASA astronaut Ron Garan, from the International Space Station touched down safely in Kazakhstan, but not without rattling nerves after a breakdown in communications.

Five years ago: After five years of promoting a false conspiracy theory about Barack Obama’s birthplace, Republican Donald Trump abruptly reversed course, acknowledging that the president was born in America, but then claiming the “birther movement” was begun by his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton. (While the question of Obama’s birthplace was raised by some backers of Clinton’s primary campaign against Obama eight years earlier, Clinton had long denounced it as a “racist lie.”) Three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Edward Albee, 88, died in Montauk, New York.

One year ago: College football’s Big Ten conference reversed its plan to push fall sports to spring because of the pandemic, and said it would open its football season in late October; the about-face came after sharp pressure from coaches, players, parents and President Donald Trump. Hurricane Sally lumbered ashore near the Florida-Alabama line with 105 mph winds and rain measured in feet, swamping homes and forcing the rescue of hundreds of people as it pushed inland. Carrie Underwood and Thomas Rhett tied for entertainer of the year at the Academy of Country Music Awards, the first time the top prize had been split between two artists.

Morning, all. How is this week not over yet?
Are you working today?

Guess I missed it...so your oldest tested positive?

Don't know where some people's imaginations can take them....
Water Tower and graffiti art humidors?
- never would have occurred to me.

I think those look kinda cool. Almost makes me wish I liked ACIDs.

good morning guys. really rough day yesterday, and alone most of it. needed two hands just to drink a cup of coffee. today isn't much better but the widow just picked up my steroids, so it's hurry up and wait. hopefully a cigar is in my future.

@LTG - you have every right to be angry. too many people have gotten complacent over the virus. politics and science aside - people are FUCKING dying, no longer the elderly. hospitals are overloaded and caregivers are worn down and out. and yes, some people are afraid and have a right to. God? why is it when all of a sudden they need Him in times of strife? what's wrong with turning to God everyday, all day, good or bad?

I wore myself out building a pot of sauce for dinner tonight. sausage, burger, onions, mushrooms, peppers, diced tomatoes, and a jar of sauce. simmering until 5:30-6 depending.

Well, there's a time and a place for that.  That's my go-to meal when I'm working late - a jar of Prego, pasta, and frozen meatballs from a bag.  It's edible.  At 2am when you're on hour 19 of a workday, it's freaking delicious.

I remember those days, but I was left to stop at a 24 hour gas station for something to eat. leaving home at 10pm to be at work at midnight, in case I had to call plows out, work until noon and get the next 'boss' caught up, and home by 2pm makes for a long day.

That's like arguing that I shouldn't get the vaccine because I might get run over by a car one day. That vaccine is here, the vaccine works, get the goddamn vaccine. If enough people did, we wouldn't have to worry about additional strains. But a loud and uninformed group of dumbasses somehow made a global pandemic political, so here we are.
