It's Tuesday again! In between insults we'll occasionally discuss cigars.  Join in and perhaps learn something along the way. Warning: don't proceed if you have thin skin but don't be afraid to post either... And welcome aboard!

Today is Tuesday, June 5, the 156th day of 2018. There are 209 days left in the year.

Today’s Highlight in History:

On June 5, 1968, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy was shot and mortally wounded after claiming victory in California’s Democratic presidential primary at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles; assassin Sirhan Bishara Sirhan was arrested at the scene.

On this date:

In 1527, a month after Rome was conquered by troops of the Holy Roman Empire, Pope Clement VII surrendered.

In 1794, Congress passed the Neutrality Act, which prohibited Americans from taking part in any military action against a country that was at peace with the United States.

In 1884, Civil War hero Gen. William T. Sherman refused the Republican presidential nomination, saying, “I will not accept if nominated and will not serve if elected.”

In 1917, about 10 million American men between the ages of 21 and 31 began registering for the draft in World War I.

In 1933, the United States went off the gold standard.

In 1947, Secretary of State George C. Marshall gave a speech at Harvard University in which he outlined an aid program for Europe that came to be known as The Marshall Plan.

In 1950, the U.S. Supreme Court, in Henderson v. United States, struck down racially segregated railroad dining cars.

In 1967, war erupted in the Middle East as Israel, anticipating a possible attack by its Arab neighbors, launched a series of pre-emptive airfield strikes that destroyed nearly the entire Egyptian air force; Syria, Jordan and Iraq immediately entered the conflict.

In 1976, 14 people were killed when the Teton Dam in Idaho burst.

In 1986, a federal jury in Baltimore convicted Ronald W. Pelton of selling secrets to the Soviet Union. (Pelton was sentenced to three life prison terms plus ten years.)

In 1993, country star Conway Twitty died in Springfield, Missouri, at age 59.

In 2004, Ronald Wilson Reagan, the 40th president of the United States, died in Los Angeles at age 93 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Ten years ago: Defense Secretary Robert Gates ousted Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Michael Moseley and Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne, holding them to account in a historic Pentagon shake-up after embarrassing nuclear mix-ups. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton met privately at the Washington home of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (FYN’-styn), the first such get-together since Obama clinched the Democratic presidential nomination.

Five years ago: The British newspaper The Guardian reported the National Security Agency was collecting the telephone records of millions of American customers of Verizon under a top secret court order. President Barack Obama named Susan Rice his national security adviser, and nominated Samantha Power to replace Rice as United Nations ambassador. U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, accused of killing 16 Afghan civilians, many of them sleeping women and children, pleaded guilty to murder at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, to avoid the death penalty. Carrie Underwood won top honor video of the year at the CMT Music Awards for “Blown Away”; Miranda Lambert and Florida Georgia Line were the nights top winners with two awards
apiece.

One year ago: The White House said President Donald Trump would not assert executive privilege to block fired FBI Director James Comey from testifying on Capitol Hill. Bill Cosby went on trial in Norristown, Pennsylvania, on charges he drugged and sexually assaulted Andrea Constand, a former employee of Temple University’s basketball program, at his suburban Philadelphia mansion in 2004. (The jury deadlocked, resulting in a mistrial, but Cosby was convicted in a second trial.)

49ers legend Dwight Clark, 61, dies of ALS

Clark battled amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, since first experiencing symptoms in September 2015. Clark personally informed many friends and close associates of his diagnosis long before he made a public announcement of his condition on March 19, 2017.

Terrible way to go, had a good friend that died in his early 40’s from ALS and it was a terrible ordeal.

#RealNews  Fox news show a file clip of various Philadelphia Eagles praying  during a piece on Trumpf cancelling the Eagles visit to the White House over the National Anthem/kneeling controversy.  No Eagles player kneeled during last year's season.  He probably didn't want to be embarrassed with only 10 players showing up to his photo op.

Same reason he canceled on the Warriors earlier this year. His ego is more fragile than his tiny hands.

In 1976 pure bred Siamese were expensive. Still are. A quick search of reputable breeder ads is turning up prices in the $250-$500 range for single Siamese kittens in the US. A purebred pair of cats with papers and breeding rights can run into the thousands of dollars.

not sure whether the father or mother was siamese, the rest of the litter were not siamese.
So we'll call them Siameseish?

I've been looking for a blue point or lilac point but the seal point looks like the brother and sister we had in 1976.

We're very sorry that we were caught.

Speaking of then and now monies, and the RIP for Dwight Clark....his salary with the 49ers in his first year was 30K.
Billy Cannon died about 3 weeks ago and his his first overall draft pick story sounds more like now than then less a few commas and zeros.

In November 1959, Cannon signed a contract with Los Angeles Rams general manager Pete Rozelle, in which he agreed to play for the Rams in the National Football League. The contract was for three years for $30,000, plus a $10,000 signing bonus. Two months later, on the field after LSU's Sugar Bowl loss, Cannon signed another contract; this one was with the American Football League's Houston Oilers, whose owner Bud Adams offered Cannon $33,000 a year for three years with a $10,000 signing bonus.  At Cannon's request, Adams also promised him a Cadillac for his father.  When it became known that he had signed with two different teams, the Rams filed a suit that claimed Cannon was bound by their contract and could not sign with Houston.  Judge William Lindberg ruled against the Rams, stating the contracts were void and that Rozelle had taken advantage of Cannon's naivete. Lindberg described Cannon as "exceptionally naive ... a provincial lad untutored and unwise in the ways of the business world.  "The AFL's victory against the established NFL helped bring legitimacy to the fledgling league.  After the ruling, Cannon finalized his contract to play in the AFL for the Oilers. The contract made him the first $100,000 professional football player.

As one of the highest-paid players in professional football, he was heckled early on by opposing players.

And after all that he ended up broke and in prison.

That's tragic. I often wonder what drives a person to that? Depression is a horrible thing.

Fishing sounds like lots of fun. Although usually that just means smoking cigars on a boat. Nothing wrong with that.

Morning, all.
Good morning, LTG.
Morning, Tony. Got a Perdomo event later today, Nick will be there to hobnob with the lower classes.
I will be sure to pull out a Perdomo stick for my commute home cigar.
As promised. Albeit a lounge exclusive. Perdomo Yellow Jacket. Nice cigar.

Edit: Could use a touch up my lighter died.
