What's up cigar enthusiasts?!  Join in this cigar talk with the rest of us and learn something along the way.  Be warned, you will catch hell if you post something everyone doesn't agree with.  And heaven forbid if you should make a grammatical error, you'll be berated with GFYs!  So don't have thin skin and welcome aboard!

Thinking about ordering Padron Family Res. 85 maduro. Never had a padron, but folks sing praises. Are these stogies really that good. I know taste is subjective, but wonder if Id be better off buying some v melanios or Liga 9s instead.

Padron's are very nice cigars, but also very pricy.  LP9s are also enjoyed by many but pricy as well.  Oliva V's are less than half the price of the others.  All are worth trying at one time or another, mostly a matter of if you have the extra cash to spend.  Generally speaking, there are a lot of great cigars in the price range of the V's or even lower.  You don't necessarily get a cigar that's 4x better for $20.

I think that every cigar smoker should smoke all Padron offerings. Do what I do, buy a box, smoke one and if you don't like them wait a year. Smoke another. If you still don't like them sent them to all of us. Everyone will think you are great!

"In the matter of reforming things, as distinct from deforming them, there is one plain and simple principle; a principle which will probably be called a paradox. There exists in such a case a certain institution or law; let us say, for the sake of simplicity, a fence or gate erected across a road. The more modern type of reformer goes gaily up to it and says, “I don’t see the use of this; let us clear it away." To which the more intelligent type of reformer will do well to answer: "If you don’t see the use of it, I certainly won’t let you clear it away. Go away and think. Then, when you can come back and tell me that you do see the use of it, I may allow you to destroy it." G. K. Chesterton

Five years ago: In a speech to a joint session of Congress, President Barack Obama summoned lawmakers to enact sweeping health care legislation, declaring the "time for bickering is over." (In an extraordinary breach of congressional decorum, Rep. British commandos in Afghanistan freed New York Times reporter Stephen Farrell from Taliban captors, but one commando and a Times translator were killed. Cheese Farm
-------------------------

As they stopped at a cheese farm, a young guide led them through the process of cheese making, explaining that goats milk was used.

She showed the group a lovely hillside where many goats were grazing.

"These", she explained, "are the older goats put out to pasture when they no longer produce."

She then asked, "What do you do in America with your old goats?"

A spry old gentleman answered, "They send us on bus tours."

Morning, gents. 5 1/2 hours of continuing education today. Kill me now.
Doughnuts and cookies won't even help with your day today.
No, afraid not....I was trying to think of words of encouragement, but I got nothin'
Maybe some biscuits and sausage gravy from the cafeteria will help. At least, it can't hurt.
Mmmmmm, that sounds awesome.  But I don't see that in my immediate future.
Why not? No room left on the plate?

Indeed!  This new schedule is ridiculous, but whatever.  Starting to enjoy the slow, deliberate pace of government work.  One thing at a time.  I come in to the agency this morning and have 10 totally different things on my desk to do in the next few hours.  Where are my mandatory breaks?!! My ergonomic chair?!

Something like that.  New beer recommendation:  Dale's Pale Ale by Oskar Blues out of Colorado. It was about $10 for a six pack.  6.5% ABV, lots of hops but also a bit sweet, so not totally over the top like a more traditional IPA.  Good stuff, I can definitely see it becoming a go to for me.  Had a bunch of them last night.  Also had some Dogfish Head Punkin Ale but didn't like it as much as the Warlock or Pumking.  Won't be repurchasing any of it this season.

I think the Sam Adams Pumpkin scores high.  A little less complex than the Pumpking, but smooth creamy natural flavor (as contrasted with the many that taste like flavors were added to regular beer)

Noted, I'll have to try that one.  Pumking was a little TOO much pumpkin.  Punkin not enough, tasted like the pumking flavor was an afterthought.  Really liked Warlock but can't get here, so not really an option.

Hi Joe.  Still staying away from the fall beers because despite football, I'm pretending it's still summer.

All the liquor stores here lower prices on beers as they go 'out of season', so I've been drinking more summer stuff than anything else 'cause it's cheaper. Not like we have seasons here, anyway.  Morning, Tony.

Morning, all.
Well, well. Have the "day off"?

Sure don't want to further fuck up the pussy pumpkin flavor with the taste of real beer.
Pussy flavored beer?  Pairs well with tuna?
Too much tuna for me, i'll leave that to youze guyz
worth trying once.
I'm not that desperate...yet...  ;)

+1 on Dale's Pale Ale damn good beer.
Try the Avery IPA, I prefer it slightly over the Dale's
The Stone RuinTen is the best IPA I've had recently

Also a favorite recent IPA of mine!  Almost grabbed a couple of those last night but went with the Dale's when I saw them instead.  Felt like trying something new (to me).
The Dale's is good but I think the Avery's is a bit smoother, worth a try. I can't get enough of the RuinTen lately

I tried the Stone Unapologetic IPA, a collaboration. Not great

Always find it hard to compare beers head to head. I'd take RuinTen over Sculpin, mostly because there are other citrusy ipa alternatives out here so I wouldn't "miss" Sculpin if it disappeared because I'd chosen RuinTen instead.

Or you could just try both yourself.

If you're serious the Sculpin is lighter and fruitier, the Dale's is a bit more "in your face" with hops and bitterness (in a good way). The Avery is somewhere between those 2 and the RuinTen is in another league. The bottle says "A stage dive into a mosh pit of hops" and it's true, powerful yet doesn't make you wince, just really good and strong

BTW Joe, I had the Chok and Mokah over the weekend and now prefer the Mokah
Wow, that's really saying something.  I know my local place has the Mokah and I will definitely pick some up soon.

Morning, all.
Well, well. Have the "day off"?

Something like that.  New beer recommendation:  Dale's Pale Ale by Oskar Blues out of Colorado. It was about $10 for a six pack.  6.5% ABV, lots of hops buunut also a bit sweet, so not totally over the top like a more traditional IPA.  Good stuff, I can definitely see it becoming a go to for me.  Had a bunch of them last night.  Also had some Dogfish Head Punkin Ale but didn't like it as much as the Warlock or Pumking.  Won't be repurchasing any of it this season.

Very interesting...have either of you had Heady Topper?...for comparisons sake

No. Don't get that one out here. I really enjoy California style IPAs and since they were the first I tried, I'm usually disappointed by other styles.
I haven't had much for the west coast stuff...really just green flash WC ipa and sculpin, plus a few random others.

When I went to Florida a few months ago everyone told me I HAD to try stuff by Cigar City brewing, especially Jai Alai IPA. It was a huge letdown and I wouldn't buy it again if it were ever to be available here. Same with the coffee beer of theirs I had. Just so much variety available locally. We're spoiled.

Some storm off of Mexico I think.  Or the polar vortex.  Either way, don't get many opportunities to complain about the weather here so may as well take advantage!  Just stepped outside, felt like I was at an indoor pool.  Humidity sucks, I don't miss it at all.  Feels kinda good outside at night, though, when smoking.  No bugs here to worry about.

I was actually talking to the wife about this the other day... for as connected as everyone got, I get the sense that people really are tiring of it.  It went too far.  I see it in the buying trends of our clients, they're starting to move away from "social media" - it isn't "cool" any more.  Read about the top "social media" apps and most are stuff I bet you've never heard of.  And then of course the pendulum will swing BACK to connectivity, and back again, and on and on.  Or it won't, who knows.  I'll try to keep up with it on Twitter.

CNS, I instant-messaged my wife about that yesterday then we text about it again while we were lying in bed

Why would I text you about anything other then cigars or beer? It's not like we know each other

Apple Watch up now!

In the past 6-12 months I've gotten very tired of being so connected all the time.  I don't give a shit about Facebook outside of a whiskey group and the cigar group.  I don't need emails and texts coming to my watch, too.  For that matter, don't even call me!  If you need me I'll be outside smoking.

"You" as in everyone/anyone.  Otherwise the text is getting ignored.  And if it's a text from Dan about cigars or beer, it's still getting ignored.

Always amazes me how passionate some people get about one side or the other.  1) Apple vs Non-Apple... they all do basically the same thing.  2)  Either of the sides are better than anything that was out even five years ago, if you're in to smart phones.

Feels good to get some bitching in.

Aftermarket cables are hit or miss and you have the most amazing apple battery on earth if you are using it much.  Been there had them and wife and son have them so not hear-say.  But I do like the nice metal case!
There are some really shitty ones...we have good luck from MonoPrice on their cables, but anything non certified holds a big risk.
My wife has an I pone and it tells her when an aftermarket cable is attached.  something like " unrecognizable cable attached"  it will charge it, but at a slower rate.
I still have a Razor Max.  battery still lasts a whole day and I can call people.

Fuck Apple in a couple more generations they will catch up with current Samsung and then still will not have decent battery life.
They were the pioneers, you have to give them that

Damn, that's crazy!  I've heard of that, just never experienced it myself.  Using the 2A versus 1.1A is nice, charges the phone in like 50min versus 4hours!

Hi Tony, I have to keep it brief, have to get some work done ... but France is beautiful, and if we hadn't rented a car and gotten out into the rural and mountainous areas, we really wouldn't have gotten the flavor we did.  People were friendly and helpful, it ain't cheap, and we had a few bumps in the road among ourselves, but we covered an incredible amount of ground in 12 days, the last two in Paris.  It's taken some adjustment to be back ... And thank you to those who gave helpful suggestions, NJDave, OyDave, etc.  See you later. Au Revois?

In my favorite San Antonio Bar The Palm with a cold Shiner Bock on draft.  Might damn good too.  If you could still smoke cigars here would tell the warden to just bury me here.  Fuckin City Governments .
Enjoy.  Sounds great.  They don't even have an outdoor space for you to smoke?
Tony are you at home?
I wasn't, but I am now.  Unfortunately, I have some work to still finish up too.

Good tell us how it is.  That is a CI house brand isn't it?
I believe it is a CI distribution.  Overall pleasant, solid construction and burn.  Started out with some subtle spices, not unlike CLE but that left and didn't return.  Light tobacco, nuts (cashew/almond) with pleasant cedar.  Nice creamy mouth feel with a residual cedar.  Pretty uniform.  Good morning cigar I would say.

Doing OK. Been back to work for about 3 weeks now, finished PT, still got more time to go. Bone grafts heal slow but I am 90%. Shooting in my first match of the year this weekend. We will see how the new neck holds out against a black powder match.

Stopped by my B&M Friday and he had a few boxes of AJ's New World blend. Gave one a try, good cigar. Not going to knock you socks off but for the price point, it was a very good deal. Solid    Nicaraguan flavors and and good burn. I will need to pick up a few and see how they are after a couple months of rest.

LMAO.  Does the Pope shit in the woods?  Wait.  I think I messed that up.  I meant to ask, are bears Catholic?
Can a Catholic bear become Pope?
Only if he takes a vow of property and is celibate.
Got to watch those property vows.
Poverty!  Auto correct got me again.
Got to give you a hard time about something CB.... then again, you can always go back and edit here.

I've heard similar comments.  I'm definitely intrigued.  Good to see you CF.
