When I applied, I received an automated email that stated I would be called for an interview as long as I met the qualifications. Never even got the interview. They're trying to achieve gender parity and so I'm guessing I didn't qualify. That IS rude. We tend to have the same problem here. They constantly tell us that referrals are great, that our referrals automatically get at least an interview, and if hired, we get a bonus. I don't know anyone here who has actually gotten a referral hired. Alvin is truly one of the most pleasant artists I've ever met. I met him in Tucson in the early 90s at the same show I first met Eric Bibb. Alvin had an aunt in Tucson. He was charming, accessible, polite...and his particular brand of blues utterly fascinated me. It was straight outta the 'hood, no other way to describe it. I've never heard an artist more honestly and successfully marry Blues tradition with hip-hop cultural idiom.
