Today is Friday, July 19, the 200th day of 2019. There are 165 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:
On July 19, 1969, Apollo 11 and its astronauts, Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Michael Collins, went into orbit around the moon.

On this date:
In 1553, King Henry VIII's daughter Mary was proclaimed Queen of England after Lady Jane Grey was deposed.
In 1812, during the War of 1812, the First Battle of Sackets Harbor in Lake Ontario resulted in an American victory as U.S. naval forces repelled a British attack.
In 1848, a pioneering women's rights convention convened in Seneca Falls, New York.
In 1944, the Democratic national convention convened in Chicago with the nomination of President Franklin D. Roosevelt considered a certainty.
In 1961, TWA became the first airline to begin showing regularly scheduled in-flight movies as it presented "By Love Possessed" to first-class passengers on a flight from New York to Los Angeles.
In 1979, the Nicaraguan capital of Managua fell to Sandinista guerrillas, two days after President Anastasio Somoza fled the country.
In 1980, the Moscow Summer Olympics began, minus dozens of nations that were boycotting the games because of the Soviet military intervention in Afghanistan.
In 1985, Christa McAuliffe of New Hampshire was chosen to be the first schoolteacher to ride aboard the space shuttle. (McAuliffe and six other crew members died when the Challenger exploded shortly after liftoff in January 1986.)
In 1989, 111 people were killed when United Air Lines Flight 232, a DC-10 which suffered the uncontained failure of its tail engine and the loss of hydraulic systems, crashed while making an emergency landing at Sioux City, Iowa; 185 other people survived.
In 1990, President George H.W. Bush joined former presidents Ronald Reagan, Gerald R. Ford and Richard M. Nixon at ceremonies dedicating the Nixon Library and Birthplace (since redesignated the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum) in Yorba Linda, California.
In 1993, President Bill Clinton announced a policy allowing homosexuals to serve in the military under a compromise dubbed "don't ask, don't tell, don't pursue."
In 2016, Republicans meeting in Cleveland nominated Donald Trump as their presidential standard-bearer; in brief videotaped remarks, Trump thanked the delegates, saying: "This is a movement, but we have to go all the way."

Ten years ago: A Russian-owned civilian helicopter crashed shortly after takeoff from southern Afghanistan's largest NATO base, killing 16 civilians. Israel rejected a U.S. demand to suspend a planned housing project in east Jerusalem. Stewart Cink won the British Open in a four-hole playoff with Tom Watson. Eighty-one-year-old Hershel McGriff became the oldest driver to take part in a national NASCAR series race, finishing 13th in a Camping World West Series event at Portland International Raceway. Author Frank McCourt, who'd won the Pulitzer Prize for his memoir "Angela's Ashes," died in New York at 78.

Five years ago: A New York City police officer (Daniel Pantaleo) involved in the arrest of Eric Garner, who died in custody two days earlier after being placed in an apparent chokehold, was stripped of his gun and badge and placed on desk duty. Actor James Garner, 86, died in Los Angeles.

One year ago: The White House said President Donald Trump had invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to the White House in the fall for a second get-together, just days after a Helsinki summit that brought Trump criticism from Democrats and Republicans alike. Putin said his summit with Trump had been a success, and he accused Trump's opponents in the U.S. of hampering any progress on the issues they discussed. A duck boat packed with tourists capsized and sank in high winds on a lake in the tourist town of Branson, Missouri, killing 17 people.

A Villager with an intoxicated female passenger was arrested after erratically driving a golf cart at town square.

Daniel Kerr, 60, who lives in the Village of Piedmont, had been driving the black Yamaha golf cart at about 3 a.m. July 13 at Spanish Springs Town Square, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. During a traffic stop, a police officer confirmed that Kerr was wanted on a Lake County warrant charging him with violating his probation on a drug charge.

Kerr was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail.

A 58-year-old Michigan woman who had been riding in the golf cart with Kerr was deemed to be too intoxicated to drive. The golf cart, which belongs to Kerr’s mother, was towed from the scene by Kling Towing.

Kerr had been placed on probation in April following his arrest in December with syringes and heroin in the Village of Pine Ridge. As part of his probation, he had been ordered to stay away from alcohol and illicit drugs. A warrant charging him with violating his parole had been issued June 27.

A Fruitland Park woman was arrested after she was caught behind the wheel of a car stolen from her mother three weeks earlier in Sumter County.

Carol Ann Rhom, 47, had been driving a red Chevy Impala at about 8 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and County Road 466A when she was spotted by law enforcement, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. A check of the license plate confirmed the car had been reported stolen.

Rhom pulled into the Murphy gas station at 1801 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd. in Leesburg, where she was filling up the car’s gas tank. That’s where a deputy made contact with her.

Rhom acknowledged the car belonged to her mother, but claimed she had permission to drive it. A deputy reminded Rhom that the vehicle had been reported stolen three weeks earlier. Rhom said she did not have access to a phone to call her mother and tell her she had the vehicle.

“The arrestee could not give a common sense answer for the fact that she did not return the vehicle back to her mother,” the deputy wrote in the arrest report.

Rhom was arrested on a charge of grand theft auto. She was booked on $3,000 bond at the Lake County Jail.

A Fruitland Park woman was jailed for the third time this year after causing a disturbance at her home.

Fruitland Park police were called at 5:38 p.m. Wednesday to the home of 57-year-old Elsie Mariotti, at 400 Pennsylvania Ave. She began creating a disturbance by “yelling and screaming profanity” at law enforcement officers, according to an arrest report.

“Elsie has a history of this type of behavior and law enforcement is called out to her residence often,” the arresting officer wrote in the report.

The Miami native was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct and booked at the Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $1,000.

Mariotti had been arrested in April after she tried to sic her pit bull on police officers.

She had also been arrested in January and spent nearly two months in jail when she was arrested on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and unlawful possession of a concealed handcuff key.

An 83-year-old bicyclist was transported by ambulance to Ocala Regional Medical Center after a collision with a golf cart near the entrance to the Village of Polo Ridge.

Villager Joseph Berthier had been riding a Via Montego bicycle at 6:01 a.m. Friday, traveling east on Southern Trace and attempting to make a left turn onto Oak Forest Drive, when he was struck by the driver’s side mirror of a 2015 Yamaha golf cart driven by 79-year-old Howard Edward Hall, of the Village of Calumet Grove, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The golf cart had been traveling southwest on Oak Forest Drive.

Berthier was ejected from the bicycle out onto the roadway. He was transported by Sumter EMS to the Ocala hospital. His bicycle had been equipped with a light, the report noted.

The FHP report indicated that Hall had been “inattentive” and had failed to yield the right of way.

Oh, I forget, this is just about everyone...
Maybe we need to let more Russian bots in.
I'll see what I can do. How about the North Koreans?

I can tell you what all the posts will say... "Are you suffering from erectile dysfunction?"
we get that now here on a daily basis.
Might even be better than our normal conversations. :D
I think the photos of the cigars is an improvement. You need to step up.

I have it on good authority that their leader is just a swell guy.
Of course. I'm sure his brother was a jerk and deserved to be killed along with the countless others.
You're talking about a guy who once shot 38-under par for a round of golf. I trust him implicitly.
When you're god, you can do such things.

Nice cigar, as far as Caldwell's go but needed a lot of attention. I was on the phone with an old friend and it went out on me twice. Each re-light introduced a bit more harshness to the flavor.

So 2-1/2 months ago we got together for Cfest. I had the brilliant idea to bid on some Illusione Haut 10s on Famous bid and pick up in store. Little did I know the cigars I won wouldn’t be ready during my 2 days in the area, with 2 visits to the store. I called on my way home today and the order was still there so I stopped in and picked up a few singles also. I got a 2019 Las Calaveras, Laranja Oscurio, Tabernacle Connecticut (awesome) and a Warhead V.
