Don't be a turkey!  Join in this discussion and perhaps learn something about cigars along the way.  Be warned, post on this site and you will catch hell from members and trolls alike.  Therefore, don't proceed if you have thin skin.  Especially on JWacky's birthday.  If you can accept all that, light a cigar, pour a beverage of your choice and welcome aboard!

Heaven and Hell
-------------------------

While walking down the street one day a corrupt Senator is tragically hit by a car and killed. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.
"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the Senator.

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from the higher ups. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

"Really?, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the Senator.

"I'm sorry, but we have our rules."
And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.
The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.
Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They played a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and the finest champagne.
Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who is having a good time dancing and telling jokes.
They are all having such a good time that, before the Senator realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises.
The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens in heaven, where St. Peter is waiting for him. "Now it's time to visit heaven for a day."
So, the Senator joins a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns
"Well then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."

The Senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.
Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above
The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulders.

"I don't understand," stammers the Senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"

The devil smiles at him and says,

"Yesterday we were campaigning to get your vote...Today, you voted."

Deer Camp
-------------------------

The guys were all at a deer camp. No one wanted to room with Bob, because he snored so badly.
They decided it wasn't fair to make one of them stay with him
the whole time, so they voted to take turns. The first guy slept with Bob and comes to breakfast the next
morning with his hair a mess and his eyes all bloodshot.
They said, 'Man, what happened to you?

He said, 'Bob snored so loudly, I just sat up and watched him
all night. '

The next night it was a different guy's turn. In the morning, same thing - hair all
standing up, eyes all bloodshot. They said, 'Man, what happened to you? You look awful!'

He said, 'Man, that Bob shakes the roof
with his snoring. I watched him all night .'

The third night was Pete's turn. Pete was a big burly
ex-Navy man; a man's man. The next morning he came to breakfast bright eyed and bushy
tailed. ' Good morning,' he said.

They couldn't believe it!
They said, 'Man, what happened?'

He said, 'Well, we got ready for bed. I went and tucked Bob
into bed, patted him on the butt, and kissed him good night.
Bob sat up and watched me all night.'

Rack price on regular gas has been down around 2.45 a gallon for the last couple of weeks, it started to inch up yesterday so by the end of next week we should be well over 3.00 a gallon again. It's just like that joke I posted, caviar and champagne today and garbage tomorrow after you have voted.

It happens every 2 years I am afraid, bD part is that few remember and we always get screwed every time there is an election. Our old Governor Edwin Edwards is even on the ballot this time, running for a office somewhere in the state and I am sure he will win again, he is pretty open and honest about what kind of man he is though, the old Silver Zipper returns.

Morning, all.  Guess I'm the second closest banterer to a beach this morning.  Fall weather creepin' in.  Lots of beer these past few days (visit to Green Flash brewery), lots of whiskey, lots of cigars.

Not sure of the whiskey delivery laws in your respective states but HiTimeWine.net is having a 10% off everything in store sale, online orders too.  I believe their shipping is somewhat reasonable out of state.  Just a heads up for anyone interested.

Cigar-wise, not sure.  Wife went to the shop and got me a My Father cedros (or whatever the cedar wrapped versions are called), so probably that.  Alcohol-wise, got a Victory at Sea in the fridge but might grab an Imperial Biscotti Break on the way home to treat myself instead.  We'll see.  Cigars and booze for sure, haha.

I picked up a Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey, Old Forester Signature 100 Proof, and Old Weller Antique 107 proof from the sale this morning.  The Stranahans is pretty interesting stuff, IMO.  I believe it's all malt/barley.  Tastes more like a scotch than a bourbon, even the wife likes it.  Usually $60+ when I see it around here but Hi Time's price is pretty low.

Yep, I've had Breckenridge.  Been a while so can't think of a direct comparison to Stranahans from a flavor profile standpoint, but I do remember that I liked the Stranahans a little more.

I think Stranahans has a more unique flavor profile, especially since it's not a bourbon. Sweeter, and a very slight peat-like smokiness.

Pobation, 80 hours community service and a $2,000 fine would be the only punishment facing Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson if a no-contest plea to misdemeanor reckless assault.

LOL, precedent I guess.  If they fined him his $2,000 equivalent, it'd be challenged and thrown out immediately.  If they just didn't bother fining him at all, it'd be just as bad the other way, you'd never be able to punish anyone for the same crime.

I think the bigger joke is that he's able to plea bargain out of child abuse charges.  An average citizen would absolutely NOT have a similar case end like this.

I basically have to get "in the system" this way, first, to be eligible for full time positions that are only open to current county employees at the moment.  Kinda hoping it works out to be a short cut instead of waiting for the positions to open up to the public. It's government, so they have to go through a fairly extensive and "fair" interview process when opening things up to the public.  The department I'm in was willing to jump around those loopholes for the part time position since they were technically allowed to avoid the more lengthy hiring process by doing it this way.

I don't even know if that makes sense.  Government is confusing.

No, that makes total sense.  It's so much easier for them do commit to PT, even if it's a few weeks, for the fear that if it doesn't turn out it's a lot less energy on their part...and with gubment that's probably a lot of shit.
My sister just did a similar thing in WA for her nursing job-hired her on for 3mo as PT, work 40hr weeks, after 2mo then just brought her on full time once they all realized they liked her and realized she fit in well there.  Job was posted and everything, but way simpler since it was for internals only.

Man, this day is going to DRAG!

Don't have much left to do here, just putting in the hours.  Just got officially offered the paid position at the government site, though it's still only part time for now.  Next step, full time and leaving the advertising world behind, hopefully!
Congrats!  Will they do a 60day review or something similar with a full time offer?

Yeah, sounds almost exactly the same.  Before they fully commit, which is a fairly large commitment considering the fairly extensive government benefits package, they need to see that you can truly do the work.  I'm not even authorized to do certain things, as low level as they may be, since I haven't officially been on payroll there.

Yeah the Gubment benefits sound unreal...very tempting for when I have kids and won't want to work 50-55hr weeks, every week of the year.

Yeah, that's another "perk".  Goverment workers really are not paid that much (until you get to management levels, anyway) relative to what a similar job would pay in the private sector.  Long term benefits, though, are great, as is the 'quality of life'.  There will always be some added work hours but generally speaking, a 40 hour work week is the norm.  And when you're off work, you're OFF.

40 hours week and like 12 holidays a year...sign me up!  But like you said, mediocre pay until you hit the mgmt ranks.

It's not a normal occurrence.  I guess anything is possible.  You heading back up again?-----AFoC-----Going to Scranton again for Thanksgiving.  Last minute change.  We were going to stay home this year, but Papo and Mercy sounded so disappointed when we said we weren't coming, that we decided to go.  Taking Baby Valentina once again, too.  The crapload of relatives in NJ all want to see her.
Not sure what's in store for me that weekend because we may wind up going away too.  Keep me apprised and I'll do the same.

We did it last year only because you were coming to the area.  When Charlie and I hang out, it is generally in NY or NJ.

Oh boy, fun times....  My grandson only went through that for about 5 months.  Every time he acted up, mommy had a very nice talk with him and tried to get him to understand, and it seemed to have worked.  I'm glad he's over it, because if looks could kill, he sure did give me some...  I gave him a few time outs, and put him into the corner, but I tried to also make it fun.  Like picking a corner in the kitchen under a counter, while wearing daddy's shoes. He was more concerned that it wasn't his regular corner to stand in. So he knew he was getting a time out, but he couldn't figure out way it was kinda fun... I have to maintain my fun Pawpa status.. :)

They go away when they turn 30.-----AFoC-----No they don't.  I have living proof.  Yadi is 37, Cathy is 34, and Cynthia is 30.  They still haven't gotten past the "Terrible Two's".

That doesn't sound like a bad problem to have.  I need to do more damage to my stash.  Smoked two today which is not usual for me.  Perhaps you will get good deals on the upcoming jam so that you may replenish your supplies.

Yes.  Or at least a very plausible assumption.  :)

Howdy Sir.  Hows that weather in FL?  Been nice here (highs around 40's) but calling for cold temps next week.  Single digits.

Today was garbage day.  My wife went to the curb and brought the garbage container back to where we store it.  Later she said, "I didn't check the garbage container when I brought it back, and I think I brought it back before the garbage truck pick up the garbage...!"  She drove me so nuts over it, that I had to go out into the rain and look into the container to see if the garbage was gone or not...!!!  It was gone...  Errrrr..!!!!

I would have found the container in the street until I returned from work.  Which scenario is better?

Getting ready to call it a night too.  I was working out some CigarBanter.com infrastructure updates.  Happy with the progress I made.  We may have a very different site up and running, in short order.
