I think it slots in nicely at the ~$4 price point, give or take what deal is available.

Fairly large vitola (considering a lot of the high end cigars  that I smoke are corona gordas, coronas, etc., a toro is a pretty big step up), solid flavor, typical Drew construction.  I wouldn't stock up on boxes of them, but I plan on picking up another bundle once I'm about through this one.

Ten years ago: NATO leaders gathered in Turkey closed ranks on a pledge to take a bigger military role in Iraq; President George W. Bush declared that the alliance was poised to "meet the threats of the 21st century." Insurgents threatened to behead Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun (wah-SEF' ah-LEE' hah-SOON'), a U.S. Marine who'd vanished in Iraq, in a videotape that aired on Arab television. (However, Hassoun contacted American officials in his native Lebanon the following month; after being reunited with his family in Utah, Hassoun disappeared in December 2004. Suspected of desertion, he has not been heard from since.)

(The House has yet to act on any element of the legislation.) Kevin Rudd was sworn in as Australian prime minister a day after toppling rival Julia Gillard.

The New Suit
-------------------------

A young banker decided to get his first tailor-made suit. So he went to
the finest tailor in town and got measured for a suit. A week later he
went in for his first fitting. He put on the suit and he looked fabulous,
he felt that in this suit he can do business.

As he was preening himself in front of the mirror he reached down to put
his hands in the pockets and to his surprise he noticed that there were no
pockets. He mentioned this to the tailor who asked him, "Didn't you tell
me you were a banker?"

The young man answered, "Yes, I did."

To this the tailor said, "Whoever heard of a banker with his hands in his
own pockets?"

Morning, Chip.  Just got home from smoking cigars (RyJ Star Crossed, Partagas D4) and drinking 15-year-old Glenfiddich with dad.  Had to sign the marriage certificate and get the copy for my files.  Quick drive by, then off to bed.

The Glenfiddich 15 is a little light-in-the-loafers for my taste.  A touch of caramel, lots of fruit, complex, but not muscular enough.  The Star Crossed is on the lighter side of medium, tasted good, but didn't knock me out.  It was a bit generic.  I won't be looking to buy any.  The D4 was from Jan 2013 and was superb.

The company was terrific.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's necessarily right but that's the way it is and when you throw in somebody doing -20 MPH off the pace it creates a dangerous situation and it's something you don't see on normal days...GFYs!

Good morning guys, Happy Friday. Strange commute in this morning, the traffic is a bit lighter on Fridays in the summer but there was a contingent of old people on the road today, really screwing up traffic. The norm is 80MPH in the fast lane and you had people doing 60-65, so I started my Friday cursing at old people, can't be good
First Texas now old people you are insulting us all this week.  Are there any 80 MPH speed limits in Jersey, if not don't complain and blame it on old people because you can't violate the law.  Now 7 years behind here in TX we do have not only 80 MPH but also 85 in places.

Yeah! And that's coming from a guy in Ohio for Pete's sake!

Morning LSU, Golfing Dave, EA, Short Stack and 3d.  I think I got everyone since Travellin Dave is out over the Atlantic now but hello Travellin Dave if you have internet service and are awake.

Looks to be quiet today - no Jam, no deals, got the mash up, didn't see anything there that impressed. Any ideas?
I concur, gonna be a slow one.
Lot of slow ones lately, especially with the frequent low quality Jam offerings.

Threw some smokes on my watch list at cbid just to keep things a little interesting today - desperate times, desperate measures.
That's funny, I did the same thing though I'm pretty sure nothing will come of it

It seems to be a consensus that the FdlA Toro is the preferred vitola. I have one in the humidor, but have only ever smoked the robusto.

Still Cuban deals out there I'd like, but buying the NR yesterday cooled my ardor some. Not enough, but some.

I hear ya...I went a little wild in June, need to pump the brakes in July before the Tatuaje TAA 2014s and then pump the brakes again...NO MORE DEALS! ;)

I can see this is a bad place to be today. Every time I say I'm done buying cigars for the year, y'all be like "FdlAs on the mash, Nica Rusticas on the fed..."

Morning, Bret. Actually not a whole lot out there today. A couple decent offers, but for the most part... we're scrounging.

I actually prefer the FdLA in the toro, but wouldn't turn down a robusto.
It seems to be a consensus that the FdlA Toro is the preferred vitola. I have one in the humidor, but have only ever smoked the robusto.

Still Cuban deals out there I'd like, but buying the NR yesterday cooled my ardor some. Not enough, but some.

Well don't think about it too long cause YellowStar is on a buying spree... there may not be too much left for any of us. (http://forums.steelersfever.com/images/smilies/chuckle.gif)

Yeah. I had the Ninfas carted, but was waiting on the Early Bird shipping... it never happened. Not to be, I suppose.

Well hold up... I guess it's just the search window. The code still applies at checkout. wc307 anyway.

Did some googling... cause it's Friday and I don't want to do this other shit, and outside of Facebook this is what came up.

Quote from: Cigar Craig
Tuesday I went to my local shop, JM Cigars in Exton, PA to meet an old friend and enjoy a cigar or two without risking frostbite for a change. Jeff, the proprietor, when asked what was smoking well in the humidor, emphatically recommended a cigar called Dominican Big Leaguer. I had recently heard of this cigar in conversation in another shop, so I had to try it.  I smoked the Corona size and it was, indeed, darned tasty. These are reasonably priced in the $5-6 range and I’m told they fly off the shelves (along with the Asylum 13 in the 70 and 80 rings gauges, but that’s not a surprise) I picked up a robusto as well. It was a well behaved, good tasting smoke in the medium bodied range. It was a perfect first cigar of the day right after lunch.

In order to change up some of the rotation and better encourage Op: Smokedown, I came up with a new strategy for picking these random middle of the day smokes.  Partially because I have a ton of cigars I'll never smoke because they're too buried/other cigars are easier to get to and partially because I prefer those other cigars.  So using random.org's random number generator, I have it generate a line and column to match the spreadsheet and pick the smoke.

Obviously that can't be used all the time--picking a double corona when I only have an hour would be a waste.

Test results, to see how it would work, showed a 5x42 Unbanded corona (presumably bundle, it wasn't a mystery smoke sent my way), a JL Salazar Churchill, and an Oliva V.  So 1 out of 3 being something I wouldn't be likely to grab.  Seems good enough.

In practice for today?  First pick was an Upmann Millonario Churchill.  Second was a Legado de Pepin toro and third was a LGC Rabito.  Again, not too shabby for a random grab from the spreadsheet.

Think I'l follow its pick for #1.

Damn, I just wish I had a $1 for every cigar you have.. :)

You should use cigar geeks to keep your inventory, they have a 'pick a cigar for me' button.

Far too much work to add everything in there.  I have a functioning spreadsheet.  If it could import an excel file and parse it, sure, but I'm not clicking through a couple hundred entries.

I don't know that I've owned that many the entire time I've been smoking.

Anywho, Upmann Millonario churchill.  Tony's favorite cigar.   Real collector's item.  Very nice US Connie wrapper.

The Cameroon binder is noticeable from the pre-light aroma and cold draw.  Easy light and right off the bat, a mild but rich creamy smoke with an easy going white pepper, slightly sweet and woody.  Retro is sweet and nutty.  Very easy going and flavorful.

BD, how did it go the other day with your buddy?
He could only stay for a couple of hours.  We had a few Coor's Silver Bullets, and he was actually on his good behavior for once.  My wife came out later and asked where he was.  From the way she was dressed, I think I'll have to start watching her too..  ;)

Yes, clearly.  I "cost" myself no money more than I would prefer to.  And if I do, then I fucked up and it's my own fault.

In turn, I don't have shoes for every outfit.  I have work boots, dress shoes, and 10 year old sneakers.  I don't have diet of the month fad food here or an unused treadmill that doubles as a coat rack.

A more dramatic example: I have a buddy whose warden is a goddamn terrible driver.  The $1500 in deductibles over the last few years he's put into her car would have paid for a cabinet and some smokes.  I don't have the problem of having subsidizing someone else's inability to look before backing out of a spot and so I have a cabinet.  He has a banged up Grand Caravan.

Thus, having no kids/warden to pay for goes a long way towards having as many smokes as you can convince yourself to buy.

pussies, never make it as a nut bus driver.
Have I ever mentioned that I once drove nut busses?  When I was finishing college I drove school busses for Tucson Unified School district. When you're low man on the totem pole, you get a lot of special-needs runs.  Autistic kids, profoundly developmentally disabled, kids that have to be restrained and wear helmets, spitters, shit-flingers, tourettes, third-graders with bona-fide homicidal tendencies, cutters, runners, molesters...you name it, I drove it in a 40-foot bus.

Oh, guess I should include the high-school girl who was trading BJs for cocaine.  That was pretty nutty, too.

So...yeah, I've driven nut busses.  ;D

Evening, Bill.  You ever try out those Upmanns yet?

I smoked the Bijou you sent the other night.  Was a bastard for the first half and didn't want to burn straight, but it evened out for the second half.  I never have Le Bijous burn straight though; they just don't like me.  Lots of big dark oscuro Pepin flavors.  My 2nd favorite current production dark wrapped Pepin behind the Mi Amor.  Good stuff.

It's probably a good sign that you're not willing to turn every alcoholic drink into dessert. On the other hand, you are drinking a gin & tonic - it's not like it's straight gin.

Cubao Maduro Churchill.  Way back from the long, long ago.

I actually don't remember when I got these--it was before I marked when I got cigars--but, IIRC, the Cubao Maduro was released in 09 and these are early release ones.  Original EO markings, labels, cello is brown now, etc.  I do remember these were a big disappointment when I got them.  Tough to keep burning, damn bitter at times, blah blah blah.  Few years nap turned that around, though it's still a bit of an odd duck within the EO/Pepin portfolio, imo.

Anywho, thick wrapper, kinda coarse, solid roll.  Aroma is cocoa and cedar, maybe a hint of licorice at the foot.  Punch reveals a nice draw, slight resistance.  Noticeable red pepper (or hot/tingly) the lips/tip of the tongue with the cold draw still.  Easy light.

First puffs have that tip of the tongue "hot" pepper, along with a earthy/coffee/leathery medium-full body.  Toss in some cedar accents and some back of the throat pepper.  Finish is a bit chalky with lingering cocoa.  Only just slightly sweet, not too dry.

But its already changing up, not as much hot pepper and getting more of a creamy cocoa presentation, less pepper and a little sweeter, just a hint of cherry tobacco in there, too.  Meanwhile, the finish gets that heavy, smothering earthy/peppery broadleaf note.

I have a friend who is 93 years old. Every time he comes over I serve him gin on the rocks.  Has to be Beefeaters, though. Tanqueray is for pussies, or so he says.  I prefer the Tanqueray , so I bring out that bottle just to piss him off.

Happy Friday evening, gents.  Ice cream sounds good, but not sure it would pair well with this gin and tonic.

Never say never; http://www.scoopadventures.com/gin-tonic-ice-cream/
Holy crap, bet that's delicious.  But you gotta be one motivated mofo to do that recipe from start to finish.  I'm way too lazy.

It's probably a good sign that you're not willing to turn every alcoholic drink into dessert. On the other hand, you are drinking a gin & tonic - it's not like it's straight gin.

Indeed.  Can't trust people who drink straight up gin.  Eat gin and tonic ice cream though?  No problem.
I have a friend who is 93 years old. Every time he comes over I serve him gin on the rocks.  Has to be Beefeaters, though. Tanqueray is for pussies, or so he says.  I prefer the Tanqueray , so I bring out that bottle just to piss him off.

He's been drinking that way for years, so there you go.
I love an Iced cold(out of the freezer) Bombay Sapphire straight up with 3 large olives. Nothing like it, IMHO. And please, no Vermouth.
I have to try that ! , sounds great ! .

You know, you really do deserve it. So go ahead.
I don't know about that , but I am going try it anyway ! .

Has anyone had the Exodus cigars from Cuban Crafters? I bought a box a few years ago on a supposed closeout, Maduro Torpedo from them 25/$30. They were so good, I bought a box of the chuchhill's also. Everyone required a draw poker, but boy do they taste good. I see they still have some on closeout now at $60 but I saw them just recently there for $30. In any case, great cigar for the $.

Maybe the 93 year old guy drinks gin for arthritis.  I've often heard of older people making gin soaked raisin (white raisins soaked in gin), in which they would eat a few each day for arthritis.  I believe the gin has to contain the juniper berry.  I've also ran into allot of the old guys that swear by Beefeaters.

Still plenty of cigar left, actually.  I smoke slowly and it has a pretty decent burn rate, unlike the Cubao Churchills (every batch of that vitola I had was underfilled, so I stopped getting them).  Just a bit passed the middway point.

No touchups, moderate amount of smoke.  Overall sticking with the creamier presentation.  Earthy/coffee/cocoa, a little dry/leathery, mixing in some cedar accents and a small amount of pepper on the back of the throat.  At times it is semi-sweet, other times unsweetened/slightly bitter.

With 4-5 years of age on it, I like it.  Not my favorite.  I'd have to back to back it with a Jamie Garcia to see if I preferred one Pepin broadleaf over the other, I guess.  Mostly, I'd say that the two sticks are different and maybe in 3 years I'll think differently about a JG that has the same age on it.  For the $85 a box Famous has them going for, assuming they're the same quality construction/tobacco, sure, worth a gander.

I don't know when those boxes are from though.  My newer batches of 601 Blues (from 2012, so not really new), right after they switched to the blue and orange labels after the baby blue ones, are nowhere near the same quality as the original release 601 Blues.  Wrapper shade is all over the place, clearly a lower priming (some of them are pretty rough and are barely Colorado, much less the dark maduro of the original release) and burn/flavor left something to be desired.  So who knows other than CB's fault.

Hi TD....  I bought a box of Saison's when they first came out due to the good deals and the free 10 pack of Olivia sampler that came with it.  They're not bad.  I think my taste in cigars is allot different than most of the guys on here.  I had also bought some Olivia Infernos (which I felt most of the guys didn't care for) at the same time, and I like them better due to the pepper taste and they seem allot more relaxing to me.

They got home from shopping at 10:00 pm.  Packing and loading Yadi's new Accord now.  It's like a Laurel & Hardy/Marx Bros/3 Stooges episode all rolled into one, only in Spanish.  I fired up an Ave Maria Holy Grail.  They are still screwing around.  I'm guessing maybe midnight for a departure time, but that might be optimistic.
