It's Tuesday again! In between insults we'll occasionally discuss cigars.  Join in and perhaps learn something along the way.  Warning: don't proceed if you have thin skin but don't be afraid to post either...  And welcome aboard!

Teaching Math
-------------------------

Teaching Math in 1950:
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5
of the price. What is his profit?

Teaching Math in 1960:
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5
of the price, or $80. What is his profit?

Teaching Math in 1970:
A logger exchanges a set "L" of lumber for a set "M" of money. The
cardinality of set "M" is 100. Each element is worth one dollar. Make 100 dots
representing the elements of the set "M". The set "C", the cost of
production contains 20 fewer points than set "M". Represent the set "C" as a subset
of set "M" and answer the following question: What is the cardinality of the
set "P" of profits?

Teaching Math in 1980:
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80
and his profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline the number 20.

Teaching Math in 1990:
By cutting down beautiful forest trees, the logger makes $20. What do you
think of this way of making a living? Topic for class participation after
answering the question? How did the forest birds and squirrels feel as the logger
cut down the trees? There are no wrong answers.

Teaching Math in 2000:
By laying off 402 of its loggers, a company improves its stock price from $80
to $100. How much capital gain per share does the CEO make by exercising
his stock options at $80. Assume capital gains are no longer taxed, because
this encourages investment.

Teaching Math in 2010:
A company outsources all of its loggers. They save on benefits and when
demand for their product is down the logging work force can easily be cut
back. The average logger employed by the company earned $50,000, had 3
weeks vacation, received a nice retirement plan and medical insurance. The
contracted logger charges $50 an hour. Was outsourcing a good move?

Teaching Math in 2013:
A logging company exports its wood-finishing jobs to its Indonesian
subsidiary and lays off the corresponding half of its US workers (the higher-paid
half). It clear-cuts 95% of the forest, leaving the rest for the spotted owl,
and lays off all its remaining US workers. It tells the workers that the spotted
owl is responsible for the absence of fellable trees and lobbies Congress for
exemption from the Endangered Species Act. Congress instead exempts
the company from all federal regulation. What is the return on investment of
the lobbying costs?

What's the good word, LTG?  Just read that my wife and daughter share a birthday with Pete Townshend, among others.  Trying to get to work early so that I can get home at a decent hour to spend some time with them (my family, not Pete).

Was up all night finalizing drawings and pricing for a deck and screen room for the trailer. Landlady will reimburse all funds after completion of project. It may take awhile as my funds are tight. She will get the needed permits for me.

Not sure how much I want to do here. Slab isn't great, may have to put a 2x deck on the slab just to be able to frame for the screen room. Looking at a few options, 20x30 completely enclosed with basic set of steps going into trailer. Building codes here are a lot different than NY.

I almost posted that but I didn't want to hear NJDave bitch that we're leaving him out, even though we always schedule around him being in town.
I seem to recall that I scheduled being in town around YOUR availability

Lots of love for the left coast this morning!  Morning, all.  Happy Tuesday.
Morning Joe, not sure what you're talking about. We're always like this

Had some VaS on tap this weekend, local place with 35 taps finally got it. Went on my way home Friday for one then after dinner with my wife on Saturday for 2 more

Nice!  That's about as good as beer gets on tap, IMO.

Haven't found it on tap yet.  But I need to get around to trying this, so I'm going to make a liquor store run at lunchtime to pick up a 6-pack and a couple 22-oz bottles for the Memorial Day gathering at my brother's lake place.

Might need a bit more than a 6-pak and 2-22oz's for Memorial Day on the Lake.  Especially if your BIL is like mine.

Well, it's my brother, and yes, he can down the beer.  But this will be just for the Saturday-night feast.  There will be plenty of lesser swill to pound.

But if it's as good as y'all say, maybe I'll double the order.  I could get a couple of growlers, but difficult to keep them cool on the 3-4 hour trip.  My travel trailer has a small fridge. Hmm...

Not like they'll be ruined if they warm up on the trip.  A one time fluctuation will be just fine.  I've asked a LOT of people about this and have plenty of first hand experience to back it up.  Got lots of beers stored away that were purchased cold, and they've always been perfectly fine after chilling and drinking them.

They gave me a choice too... They said we're out of cigars so you could GFY or pound salt?
I like the size of the GFY better, but prefer the wrapper on the pound salt. Would've been a hard decision for me, which way did you go?
I went with the GFY, of course.  Duh.

No difference to me she is going straight to work for a meeting at 1:00 and likely will be late for it now and either way she probably will get home around 6:30 after I have had a cigar and some beverages.

Had a second interview with the Tax Collector's office yesterday, went well enough that I just received an email that they're beginning my reference check ahead of a contingent offer (contingent on background check, etc.).  Woohoo!  If anyone signs up to ask about me, please point out that my post count is nowhere near the top of the leaderboard ;)
Congrats joe, you can count on us. Buy a box of SL Lanceros to celebrate

Just lit a San Lotano Habano Lancero courtesy of our Mayor, working from home today
I can go for one of those right about now.
Big SL fan and smoked a bunch and got a bunch but never saw a Lancero one.  Fish is just too cool!

I have a few, think I got them from Cigar.com?  Been a while since I made that purchase so I could be wrong.
Yep, in stock at Cigar.com...and I am cool
And not too bad a price haves to gits me some of dem when I find a FS Code or something on the DD.

You are the Man today Ogie!!  Thanks!
Don't buy them, they suck  ;D

If you'd like to pay more for them, maybe Tony can share where he purchased his rare box of them...
Brad hooked him up, $170 for the box special event pricing
Yah that is a Tony Deal for sure since they are $131 No Tax and FS (thanks to Ogie) at the Sister or 5/$33.50 FS
I'm seeing $130.99, even better

I got my hands on a rare box of 'em.  Not easy to come by.  I'll have to send you one with the shirt.   ;)  You still holding your breath?
Holding it till I die or my birthday or when Dean gets that screen porch built and gets his money back whichever comes whichever is first.  I think I have them in the correct order too.
You birthday will come before I even part with porch money, hope porch is done before you die, if I even do the porch.
LOL, I hope you can do it as you will sure get some good use out of it.
Right now my screen tent works fine and I have an outdoor dinette exposed to the weather, just need a rain barrier.

Would've bet a million dollars that that was his source.  And that's not a terrible price considering it was through a B&M.
Or just a terrible price as you can usually expect from a B&M would b more accurate.

the pool is clean and 1/2 full as we speak, bikerlady had to get a brand new pump, added a 1/2 gallon of bleach to the water for the interim of pool chemical kit tomorrow after golf.
Brioso toro? 6x60 fat fucker watching tstorm move in.
Lowes is usally about the best place to buy pool chemicals these days and the house brand stuff at Home Depot is junk, HDX I think they call it.  Not very pure has lots of residue.

Walmart has HTH brand at a decent price but Lowes has a better price on Clorox brand which seems to work as well or better than the HTH.

A little warm and humid up here for this area, too, but nothing like Austin this week.  Fog your glasses kind of weather.

Holy crap, just checked Round Rock. 91 deg/76 deg dewpoint.  Heat index 103. Forecast high here tomorrow is 71 deg/mid-40's dewpoint, which is damn near perfect.  And me without any cigars.  D'oh!

Saw over at Atlantic that there is a new Room 101 "Series Black Scale".  Doesn't say exclusive to Atlantic but I haven't found any discussion on it anywhere else.  Currently only in a 6 x 60 gordo....think I'll wait for intro of some additional vitolas.
Déjà Vu
Yea well, some people around this time, and I know Fishy likes Room 101 so he may have some interest.
I know.  I was only busting your balls because it's Tuesday.

If you can, cross Rt. 1 to downtown Princeton.  One main road; Nassau St. with University on one side and town on the other.  Lots of decent restaurants, a Brewpub "Triumph" which is nice for food and beers, and a little B&M with a small lounge called Little Taste of Cuba.

Second place that might even be a bit closer to you is right on Rt. 1 across from Quakerbridge Mall and next to Olive Garden.  There is also a Hooters around the corner and a good liquor store in the same mall.  Cigar B&M is called the Tobacco Leaf and the liquor store is Joe Canal's.  Lounge only has coffee, so you might want to stop off at Canal's first.

As for PA, there is one in Doylestown (that I haven't been to personally) that we discussed previously.  Also the same store I mentioned in Princeton A Little Taste of Cuba has a store in New Hope (just on the PA side of the river).  Plenty of restaurants and bars there as well...with a bit of an Austin flavor for icing.

There are two parking garages on the town side of Nassau.  Better than street meter parking.
Plenty of restaurants on Rt. 1 as well.  Cheescake Factory and some Italian chain  at Quakerbridge Mall (on Rt. 1 side), Across the street in the mall with the one tobacco shop is Olive Garden as I said, also Bonefish Grille and Outback, north of that in Princeton Market Fair (also right on Rt. 1) is PF Changs, Big Fish, Bobby's Burger Palace (Bobby Flay), Season 52 and TGI Fridays, to give you some choices.
