I got good and fueled on 18-year-old Talisker last night.  Puts a spring in one's step...

Ya know, I rarely go with scotches over 15 years....aside from the price  , I find that the flavors tend to mellow out to the point of loosing some of the unique character of the 12-15 year old version.  May be my justification for being cheap (relatively), but I'm sticking with it.

When they get over 15 years, they mostly just get smoother.  The flavor doesn't change much.  Regardless, since I wasn't paying for it, that Talisker tasted mighty fine.

No disagreement there.  For me part of that smoothing is a mellowing of the flavors.  Maybe like with my cigars, I like getting hit over the head with it.

Yeah, but you're the type of guy who doesn't truck much with sublety.  I get the distinct impression you prefer living large, and expect your smokes and drinks to keep up.
