Take Care of the Big Rocks First A philosophy professor stood before his class and had some items in front of him.
When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, rocks about 2" in diameter.
He then asked the students if the jar was full? They agreed that it was.
So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks.
He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.
He then asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous - yes.
The professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and proceeded to pour their entire contents into the jar - effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.
"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health, and your children - Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.
The pebbles are the other things that matter, like your job, your house, and your car.
The sand is everything else. The small stuff."
"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, give a dinner party and fix the disposal.
"Take care of the rocks first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the beer represented.
The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of beers."

As opposed to the other fuckstick who said they aren't causing her any pain and to deal with it. So she's scheduled to have a consult with the surgeon on the 9th, but she's hoping she can get in there earlier to get the ball rolling on getting them out, if he has a cancellation or something. Sounds like because of the size of one of the stones, they'll have to go through her back into her kidney to remove them. The codes are almost always the same, other than the updated Warehouse Clearance code, so you can go to any previous email from them to find them. I haven't gotten today's warehouse clearance email yet, though.

Hey there, Dave. I did order a Cuban Crafters "Perfect Cutter" the other day. Used one at the super store in Florida and really liked it. It's really like crossing a V cutter with a standard guillotine (in that you can't possibly cut "too much"), and it's not like I actually have trouble cutting a cigar, but I was surprised to see that it only cost $15. $13 on Amazon, haha. And it comes with a lifetime warranty, so there's that. Still need to send my Xikar XV in for sharpening...

I kept planning to, but then you or Dusty would point out this deal or that deal, or I'd lowball something on the Devil and it would win - and then there wasn't enough left in the budget to afford the box. The Partagas Shorts are ALWAYS "in stock" at my house, love those.
Tortuous logic indeed, especially when we get hung up on "just" $2. Adds up quick when you're talking per stick, over a full box of cigars, but for any one cigar it's a trivial amount of money. Like when we say something is good at $3 but not $3.50. Really? That 50¢ makes that much of a difference?
Just buy 'em all and go on a hiatus until the next great deal surfaces.

I'm sure this is partially true, with the difference being that there is ACTUAL grapefruit in it now as opposed to simply being grapefruit-esque. But if someone like my wife is picking up the beers, she'd definitely be more drawn to the grapefruit on the label.

Sweetwater just introduced the Whiplash, which is a white IPA. Pretty good, but not in the class of some of the ones already mentioned.

Right?! Gotta have more for when you run out. My boss does it with small stuff at the office. He'll buy two things of coffee so he'll have more when it's empty. Why not just buy another when it's getting low? Doesn't make sense to have back ups of things that aren't commodities. I've never walked in to a grocery store to find them out of ALL coffee.

I drew a new doctor who found numerous typos in my history. previous doctor apparently didn't think it was important to let me know I've had cataracts since 2006 and they've been slowly getting worse, oh and I'm at the point that I need to throw my readers away and get real corrective lenses.......next year.

Got the charcoal fired up for some right out of the water fish and asparagus. Supposed to be a near hurricane 200 miles away but not a cloud in the sky and barely a light breeze.I wanted to smoke a cigar , but we have thunder storms here in Houston ! .

I haven't had a bad Opus. Not all of them have had absolute perfect burns or anything like that, but they've all been very high quality cigars.
A few singles, at MSRP? Sure, why not. All the craziness that surrounds them and inflated prices and all that? Yeah, it can fuck off. And at that price point, you're basically dealing with any cigar you want. So Limited Editions Cubans or maybe Double Coronas for less per stick is the way I'd go if I really wanted to drop $10+ on each cigar.

As I recall, these had problems with the burn and draw for the bulb, but once they got passed that and were going, they had a strong ash and were fairly well rolled. For the rosado, at least. The Maduro never burned right.
And this one has the same lack of draw/smoke, though it is slowly burning.
And it opened up and is smoking very nicely now. Medium bodied, fairly strong core flavor. Syrupy/molasses type sweetness, a strong/focused cinnamon type spiciness, woody/nutty/light coffee? tobacco. No peppery notes, really. Despite the sweetness on the inhale, the end result is a more savory smoke due to the general spiciness.
Reminds me of the Partagas Spanish Rosado a bit.

I got 2 boxes of the Upmann Magnum 48 EL09s for $7/stick. At 5 years old--and there is no reason to think that they have already peaked--they're already better than any Opus I've had. Exactly what Opus X can you get for $7, even if you were to bulk buy them? So yeah, that pretty much settles that topic for me.
I'd grab a few singles to enjoy for the flavor profile or whatnot but never as a major source of spending. I'd sooner buy up some Don Carlos #3s or #4s., all things considered.

Greatful Dead LSD story. Dropped some liquid before a Dead concert and was tripping balls. I almost got to the edge, but told myself "if you make it past the drum solo, you will be ok". So do the Verdadero Organic, but it's non-spicy raisin. 8)As I recall, these had problems with the burn and draw for the bulb, but once they got passed that and were going, they had a strong ash and were fairly well rolled. For the rosado, at least. The Maduro never burned right.

And it opened up and is smoking very nicely now. Medium bodied, fairly strong core flavor. Syrupy/molasses type sweetness, a strong/focused cinnamon type spiciness, woody/nutty/light coffee? tobacco. No peppery notes, really. Despite the sweetness on the inhale, the end result is a more savory smoke due to the general spiciness.

Most of them start out pretty concrete. "We were going to this Dead show and then...." After that point of the story, things tend to get hazy.

Real classic seegar flavor. Medium bodied, pretty full flavored if not palate battering like so many of the smokes we usually enjoy. Slightly sweet tobacco, nice amount of general spiciness, decent mix of traditional core notes. No overpowering pepper or anything at any point, the retro is just medium spiciness, maybe some cedar. Fairly rich and savory, long finish.
Just a very satisfying everyday type classic smoke. It would be perfect for all day BBQ or handicapping, etc. Shame it just doesn't have slightly better construction. I still have a few of each wrapper left, so maybe I'll have the maduro during tomorrow's thunderstorm.

Sly, you need to get the post on the outside of the quote tags. CB must've slipped that one in there. I think the full box price was over $200, because they had hand painted boxes and such.
It is an Eiroa smoke, formerly made in the Wynwood Art Gallery thing in Miami. They moved production to his new factory in Tampa? I think. The whole idea was to do factory fresh smokes--so they'd roll them and ship them. It was aged tobacco, 4 or 5 years old, but supposed to get to you within 2 weeks of being rolled, so you could really experience the whole age range and how it changed the flavor.

Jerry did not join us, but Phil Lesh, Bob Weir & others were there. I worked in the concert hall at my college where they played. (because of that I occasionally got invited to after parties.). They had enjoyed playing so much, had a break in the schedule and announced that would be back for the next couple days and would play for free, so they weren't in a hurry to break things down. I told them that there was a really cool lake behind the hall & would show them the way down there, if they were up for an adventure. I knew the pathways through the woods, had good night vision (full moon)(hence they named me the Pathfinder). I led them down the rabbit hole to the lakes edge and we sat down on the sandy edge & hung out. Some natural substances were burned, some conversation ensued. I pulled out my harmonica and played while the steam rose from moon shiny surface of the lake. We enjoyed some quiet, taking it all in user the overhanging trees. Then, I think they realized that they didn't know me from Adam & didn't know the way back. A solitary shaky voice spoke up and said. "Do you think we can go back now?" I think that smoky stuff had worn off. I walked them back, I think there was a sense of relief. There it is, no embellishment.Now that was a great story .

Probably was the same one he sent me, the Coneja. Very nice smoke. Crazy ridiculous MSRP, but an excellent deal when King was closing them out for $4/ea.
Sly, you need to get the post on the outside of the quote tags. CB must've slipped that one in there. I think the full box price was over $200, because they had hand painted boxes and such.
It is an Eiroa smoke, formerly made in the Wynwood Art Gallery thing in Miami. They moved production to his new factory in Tampa? I think. The whole idea was to do factory fresh smokes--so they'd roll them and ship them. It was aged tobacco, 4 or 5 years old, but supposed to get to you within 2 weeks of being rolled, so you could really experience the whole age range and how it changed the flavor.

They had enjoyed playing so much, had a break in the schedule and announced that would be back for the next couple days and would play for free, so they weren't in a hurry to break things down. I told them that there was a really cool lake behind the hall & would show them the way down there, if they were up for an adventure. I knew the pathways through the woods, had good night vision (full moon)(hence they named me the Pathfinder). I led them down the rabbit hole to the lakes edge and we sat down on the sandy edge & hung out. Some natural substances were burned, some conversation ensued. I pulled out my harmonica and played while the steam rose from moon shiny surface of the lake. We enjoyed some quiet, taking it all in user the overhanging trees. Then, I think they realized that they didn't know me from Adam & didn't know the way back. A solitary shaky voice spoke up and said. "Do you think we can go back now?" I think that smoky stuff had worn off. I walked them back, I think there was a sense of relief. There it is, no embellishment.Now that was a great story .

There are just too many superb cigars I can get for less than an Opus X, and the Opus X just wasn't so magical that I felt the price was justified.
For that price, a cigar would have to make me consider smoking it instead of having sex with the missus. Haven't found such a cigar yet. The Opus X wasn't it.

I've got a few of the Rosado and Maduros left. And some of those Wired coronas, too. Draw hasn't been an issue once passed the bub, but they tend not to burn straight. This one going out a bunch is a rarity from what I remember.

I remember hearing that the new ones were good so I got 5 to try.Has anyone tried the new Padilla 1932? Just got 5 of them a couple of weeks ago.Tom, KC has said, more than once that they are very good, and "as good as the originals". I remember him posting that. Now, I have to get some. Oliva makes them, I believe.

Yes Bob, I can't criticize was way worse back when I drank a lot. Had a chip on my shoulder--for real! And, I hope you never took offense to my Police rants. I have a lot of emotions about almost every encounter that I have had with the police. Maybe I look guilty, or something? Who knows, but I was Pro-LE when I was young, because I believe in having a well trained police force.
