Appendicitis
-------------------------

A highway patrolman was rushed to the hospital with an inflamed appendix.
The doctors operated and advised him that all was well. However, the patrolman
kept feeling something pulling at the hairs in his crotch. Worried that it might be
a second surgery the doctors hadn't told him about, he finally got enough energy
to pull his hospital gown up enough so he could look at what was making him
so uncomfortable. Taped firmly across his pubic hair were three wide strips of
adhesive tape, the kind that takes everything with it when you pull it off.
Written in large red letters across the tape was the sentence: Get well
quick..... From the nurse you gave a ticket to last week."

Hard to watch that game, they waited all year to play their worst when they needed to play their best, who would have thought a pitcher couldn't throw to first base.

Yeah it was a pretty sad performance, especially for a team with 6 starting players drafted!

Given the likelihood of dangerous sewer gases coming up to the 8th floor, we are excusing everyone for the rest of the day.  For consistency, please enter the remaining work time for the day as administrative leave AND advise your supervisor.  Those that are teleworking, please continue to complete the rest of your day teleworking.

Was it leaking?
Yup.  I have a special leak insurance and the guy was just here trying to say there weren't any holes.  The guy digging it up begs to differ.  Fucking insurance companies, amiright?
And they can determine that while the tank is still in the ground....they are so smart!

Bruce's Twisted History
For Jun 15:

Top News of the Day:

In 1752 - Benjamin Franklin proves that lightning is electricity (traditional date,
the exact date is unknown). ~ It was a shocking experience for Ben.

In 1785 - Jean-Francois Pilatre de Rozier, co-pilot of the first-ever manned flight (1783),
and his companion, Pierre Romain, become the first-ever casualties of an air crash when
their hot air balloon explodes during their attempt to cross the English Channel.
~ The Brits had superior air defense even back in the 1700's.

In 1815 - The Duchess of Richmond's ball is held in Brussels, "the most famous ball
in history". ~ And you probably thought Pamela Anderson was involved. Nope.

In 1909 - Representatives from England, Australia and South Africa meet at Lord's
and form the Imperial Cricket Conference. ~ They all rubbed their legs together.

Good MOrning Taco.

I ordered something new yesterday.  Been evaluating pocket pistoli's for a while, normally not a problem for me just which Glock but in a pocket model I do want a real safety!  Yike, guy shot a hole in his britches and 4 people in the Waldorf Astoria in NY this weekend cause his pocket pistolli went off.

After much deliberation and a super special advertised yesterday ordered me an M&P Shield 9mm.   Never been an M&P fan but the shield is really nice and reliable while barely larger than an LC9 Ruger.  Came down to the LC9, Baretta Nano and the Sheld and I rated the Shield #1.  Shield also holds 8 in the magazine.   Trigger is not the best and too heavy but there is a nice Apex kit to resolve that issue.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend.  Sorry I don't have more to add in the cigar or beverage dept.  I didn't have either yesterday (except a McD's caramel frappe only cause I had an expiring coupon & it was hot out).  I did have a good Cohiba Nicaraguan Sat. afternoon. Later in the evening ... maybe my tastebuds were off, but I had an AB Black Market that just did not taste good ... I stuck with it quite aways, but half way through, it wasn't getting any better & had to chuck it.

I have to admire the heroism of those who don't carry weapons. And no, I'm not being sarcastic. To be willing to gamble that your wits and physical strength are sufficient to save your hide from someone willing to kill with any means necessary is truly brave.

I'm not that brave. I carry weapons.

Don't worry Sly I drank adequately for both of us.

Alright! Atsamaboy, atsamaboy. Sorry about LSU.  The game was on at the same time as the Nats ... once it got to a certain point, I focused on the Nats ... Max Scherzer had a perfect game going into the 7th when he gave up a bloop, broken bat single that the second baseman just couldn't quite reach. He walked someone in the 9th, but came away with a 1 hit complete game shutout (4-0) against the Brewers.  He seemed just as happy that we finally split a series after the recent slide. Good team player ... got a hit also, himself.

well the insurance can't say there wasn't a leak now...
Sure they can.  They only cover it if the tank is the issue not if a pipe or fitting caused it.
Tony, sorry to hear about your leakage problem, seriously. Hope it was not in those other parts, tanks be to God.

For those (and it might be everyone on here but me and maybe KC) that have never purchased from Cuenca Cigars in Hollywood, FL (Ft Lauderdale Area) I highly recommend giving them a try, fair prices and super service.  I ordered soem Las Calaveras from them on Thursday morning around 8:00,  paid for standard shipping and got the cigars via Priority Mail on Saturday.   Have bought from them occasionally over the past 4 or 5 yeas and their prices are very fair and service is spectacular.  Family operation with a fabulous Cigar Lounge (that is how I found them, someone told me about it when I was in the area several years ago)

Out of Corona's but Still In Stock with Toro 5 paks @ $56 + $7 Shipping  Sold out of boxes.

TR, propose something akin to a designated hitter rule. A secret schedule where certain licensed carriers will alternate carrying every week, a day at a time to where you have at least 3 on at any one time and they know who each other are ... That would be cool.

I have to admire the heroism of those who don't carry weapons. And no, I'm not being sarcastic. To be willing to gamble that your wits and physical strength are sufficient to save your hide from someone willing to kill with any means necessary is truly brave.

I'm not that brave. I carry weapons.

This space for rent.
Guardian angels & trying to avoid people & places where problems are more likely to
occur, but we can't live in a bubble either ... got to trust in God and be alert/situationally aware ...
For some though, that may require carrying ... for me, I'd like to but I think my sense of personal responsibility would have me be constantly aware & vigilant to where I couldn't relax, just be myself & have fun.
Awareness and vigilance is indeed the price of carrying a weapon, though you'll find plenty of yahoos who think their only responsibility is to pay for the credit card that got them the gun.  Sometimes those people scare me more than criminals. "Owning a handgun doesn't make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician." -- Col. Jeff Cooper

As for relaxing, when I only had myself to worry about I could relax and even engage in risky behavior without wearing a weapon all the time.  When I became responsible for the well-being of other people, it got hard to be relaxed without having effective means of dealing with the unthinkable.  It's all a matter of perspective, and how you personally calculate your odds.  Some people can look at the remoteness of the chance that they'll ever be victimized and feel reassured.  For me, if there's one chance in 10,000 someone will try to harm me or mine, I'm carrying a weapon.

And yeah, I'm sure the talking heads would point to the fact that I had to fight a lot when I was a teenager and that informs my decision.  I've seen human savagery and brutality close-up, and I've seen my personal limitations and the limitations of law-enforcement.  Close-up.  From both sides of the law.  And there is nothing about adulthood or the state of society thirty years later that suggests anything has improved.

Speaking of cigar talk, I'm almost through my long sojourn through poverty after paying for work on the motorcycle. I have $56.99 in my fun-money account. Course, that has to get me through to July 1, but I'm getting close to being able to buy some cigars again.

Morning, muchachos.

This space for rent.

Good choice. My dad has an LC and I hate it. I probably need to look into a pocket gun of some sort.

Speaking of which, last week I had to sit through an hour long seminar on our agency's active-shooter response. Run, Hide, Fight if you have to.  We get our policies from Captain Obvious. Funny that they never mentioned personal carry. Not a word.

This space for rent.
... the greatest deterrent to an active shooter ...
A Webinar?
... Ha, TR ... "personal carry" ... I don't, but would be happy if there were plenty of well trained people around me, who were ... in an active shooter situation.
I do BUT I can't carry on the property at work so I have to stick my finger in my ass and run squealing with everybody else here,  at Probably the most dangerous place I go on any regular basis.
Especially with the sewer gas...
Pop a Cap and BOOOOM!

So I carry.

Sorry, guess I'm ranting.
To paraphrase,

....and how well do many do with that responsibility.....at an astronomically increased frequency.

Revise your instructions to prevent further disaster.  You can't hit China digging from Jersey.  You'll hit the Indian Ocean southeast of Australia.  Tell him to stop if the soil gets damp or he finds part of a Malaysian airliner.

No, this is just what happens when private equity firms buy a company, saddle it with debt, and suck out whatever cash they can.  Even this is just a tactical move to buy a little time to suck out more cash. When there's no way left to extract anything worthwhile from it, they'll sell the name to a Chinese firm who will make cheap weapons and import them to the US, where they'll be sold for inflated prices.  The wreckage of the actual company will be quietly disposed of.

Read it and weep: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-06-15/behind-colt-s-bankruptcy-financial-engineering-that-backfired

Of course, this is capitalism, so it's bound to happen once there is no one with the means and the desire to maintain an icon.  Yes, the patents on the Model 1911 all expired, and now dozens of companies are making them, but by the time that happened, Colt hadn't just quit innovating in firearms, they were cutting product lines altogether.  There was no one at the top of the company that gave a shit anymore, any employees who might have the will and wherewithal to band together and save the company Harley-Davidson-style or Fender-musical-instrument style were gone, and since there were superior products to be purchased from other manufacturers, there were no consumers that gave a shit either.  So the private equity firms just kept raping the company nearly to death, which guaranteed there would be no white knights interested in riding to the rescue.

So, add Colt to the list of iconic dead American brands...along with Borders, Blockbuster, Circuit City, Polaroid, Howard Johnson's, Studebaker, GTE, and the list goes on and on.

Evening gents.  Looks like I'm just in time to see Tony's hole filled. I'm so happy for him.
Insurance may leave him with an empty hole.
I scrolled back a few pages and looked at the photos but didn't go back so far as to learn why.  But yeah, that's certainly a hole.
The tiger escaped from Tony's fuel-oil tank, creating an ecological disaster.
And he may have replaced the tank with the warden.
If Tony's to be believed, that would offset the ecological impact two or three times over.

Heating oil tank leak and removed tank and probably 40 or so yards of contaminated soil.   Supposed to have insurance coverage but u know how that goes.
Yeah, key words "supposed to".  To paraphrase Bobby Boucher's mama, "insurance companies are the DEVIL"

According to the news, Texas received approximately 38 trillion gallons of water in May.  That's enough to cover the state in 8" of water.
