The pup is going to the groomers today. My boys have their championship basketball game this afternoon. We're expecting a bunch of rain. That about does it for me.

Today is Saturday, March 9, the 69th day of 2024.
There are 297 days left in the year.

Today’s highlight in history:

On March 9, 1997, rapper The Notorious B.I.G. (Christopher Wallace) was killed in a still-unsolved drive-by shooting in Los Angeles at age 24.

On this date:

In 1796, the future emperor of the French, Napoleon Bonaparte, married Josephine de Beauharnais (boh-ahr-NAY’). (The couple later divorced.)

In 1841, the U.S. Supreme Court, in United States v. The Amistad, ruled 7-1 in favor of a group of illegally enslaved Africans who were captured off the U.S. coast after seizing control of a Spanish schooner, La Amistad; the justices ruled that the Africans should be set free.

In 1862, during the Civil War, the ironclads USS Monitor and CSS Virginia (formerly USS Merrimac) clashed for five hours to a draw at Hampton Roads, Virginia.

In 1916, more than 400 Mexican raiders led by Pancho Villa (VEE’-uh) attacked Columbus, New Mexico, killing 18 Americans. During the First World War, Germany declared war on Portugal.

In 1933, Congress, called into special session by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, began its “hundred days” of enacting New Deal legislation.

In 1945, during World War II, U.S. B-29 bombers began launching incendiary bomb attacks against Tokyo, resulting in an estimated 100,000 deaths.

In 1964, the U.S. Supreme Court, in New York Times Co. v. Sullivan, raised the standard for public officials to prove they’d been libeled in their official capacity by news organizations.

In 1976, a cable car in the Italian ski resort of Cavalese fell some 700 feet to the ground when a supporting line snapped, killing 43 people.

In 1987, Chrysler Corp. announced it had agreed to buy the financially ailing American Motors Corp.

In 1989, the Senate rejected President George H.W. Bush’s nomination of John Tower to be defense secretary by a vote of 53-47. (The next day, Bush tapped Wyoming Rep. Dick Cheney, who went on to win unanimous Senate approval.)

In 2000, John McCain suspended his presidential campaign, conceding the Republican nomination to George W. Bush. Bill Bradley ended his presidential bid, conceding the Democratic nomination to Vice President Al Gore.

In 2020, global stock markets and oil prices plunged, reflecting mounting alarm over the impact of the coronavirus. An alarmingly sharp slide at the opening bell on Wall Street triggered the first automatic halt in trading in more than two decades; the Dow industrials finished nearly 8% lower.

In 2018, Martin Shkreli, the former pharmaceutical CEO who’d been vilified for jacking up the price of a lifesaving drug, was sentenced in New York to seven years in prison for securities fraud.

In 2021, Buckingham Palace said allegations of racism made earlier in the week by Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, were “concerning” and would be addressed privately by the royal family.

In 2022, a Russian airstrike devastated a maternity hospital in the besieged Ukrainian port city of Mariupol and wounded at least 17 people.

Lots of Oliva on the Weekend Spotlight.

Oliva Serie 'O' & 'G'
30% OFF Boxes + UPGRADE
To the untrained eye, a quick glance at these blends will have you seeing double. But an apple ain't an orange, and the Serie 'O' and Serie 'G' are some of Oliva's finest, most time-tested blends. You'd be hard-pressed to find a finer one-two punch in all the industry. And this weekend, they fall victim to CI's sledge o' savings. All featured boxes get hit with a 30% discount, knocking prices as low as just $79.99 per box!

And if you want a taste of all of Oliva’s finest blends, I’ve got just what you need. For just $10 more, I’ll toss in an Oliva 10-Cigar Sampler worth $73 with each box purchased!

Serie 'O': 94-rated and highly impressive, this is the blend that put Oliva on most people's grid. A dark Habano wrapper encases rich Nicaraguan long-fillers for a creamy, rich, medium to full-bodied profile brimming with cedar, leather, toast, and coffee. In short: a classic.

Serie ‘O’ Maduro: 90-rated, a Dark Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper is applied to add a touch of sweetness to this smooth full-bodied blend.

Serie 'G': 91-rated. This rich, medium-bodied cigar boasts hints of coffee, nuts, spices, and cedar on the finish. Perfectly balanced, this Cameroon-wrapped classic continues to stand the test of time. Fantastic.

Serie ‘G’ Maduro: 93-rated. Another Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, this one dishes out medium-bodied, warm and toasty flavors that builds to a sweet finish.

Pile your plate high with 90+ rated Oliva Serie 'G' and 'O' Boxes for as little as $79.99, score an Oliva 10-Cigar Sampler for just $10 more, and walk away with tasty Nicaraguan cigars for as little as $3.23 apiece!

Should've known the weekend had too much relaxation involved. Started a load of laundry before I started Uber duties and discovered I have at least a partial blockage in the sewer line because the water wasn't draining down properly. Now waiting for the county to come out and snake out the main line. Sheesh.

Sewer line has been cleared. Guys said it was just paper and roots, which is what I suspected. Should keep us clear for several more years, based on our history. Lol
You don't have to flush papers down the toilet just because Trumpf does... ::)

What are everyone's big plans for this weekend?

The pup is going to the groomers today. My boys have their championship basketball game this afternoon. We're expecting a bunch of rain. That about does it for me.
Lola is looking sharp after her big spa day.

My boys won their championship basketball game 34-31. They were on a completely different team than last year but won back-to-back. Draw your own conclusions.

Clearly a couple of key pieces you've got there.

I love a Charter Oak.
Have you tried either of the new ones?

No I would be excited to try the connecticut fist. I read a review a little while back.

I have not,  but eager to try them. Especially since AJ has his hand in them. I've asked the last couple of lounges I visited and neither had 'em.
Available at Atlantic.  (I gotta earn my commission)

Yes she is. But like the rest of my kids, she's a pain in the ass too.
