Today is Friday, June 24, the 176th day of 2016. There are 190 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:

On June 24, 1946, Fred M. Vinson was sworn in as the 13th chief justice of the United States, succeeding the late Harlan F. Stone.

On this date:

In 1509, Henry VIII was crowned king of England; his wife, Catherine of Aragon, was crowned queen consort.

In 1793, the first republican constitution in France was adopted.

In 1880, "O Canada," the future Canadian national anthem, was first performed in Quebec City.

In 1908, Grover Cleveland, the 22nd and 24th president of the United States, died in Princeton, New Jersey, at age 71.

In 1939, the Southeast Asian country Siam changed its name to Thailand. (It went back to being Siam in 1945, then became Thailand once again in 1949.)

In 1940, France signed an armistice with Italy during World War II.

In 1948, Communist forces cut off all land and water routes between West Germany and West Berlin, prompting the western allies to organize the Berlin Airlift.

In 1964, AT&T inaugurated commercial "Picturephone" service between New York, Chicago and Washington, D.C. (the service, however, never caught on).

In 1968, "Resurrection City," a shantytown constructed as part of the Poor People's March on Washington, D.C., was closed down by authorities.

In 1975, 113 people were killed when Eastern Airlines Flight 66, a Boeing 727 carrying 124 people, crashed while attempting to land during a thunderstorm at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.

In 1983, the space shuttle Challenger - carrying America's first woman in space, Sally K. Ride - coasted to a safe landing at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

In 1990, Health and Human Services Secretary Louis Sullivan was virtually drowned out by jeering demonstrators as he addressed the Sixth International AIDS conference in San Francisco.

Ten years ago: Patsy Ramsey, who had been thrust into the spotlight by the unsolved slaying of her daughter JonBenet, died in Roswell, Georgia, at age 49.

Five years ago: A defiant U.S. House voted overwhelmingly to deny President Barack Obama the authority to wage war against Libya, but Republicans fell short in an effort to actually cut off funds for the operation. New York State legalized same-sex marriage. A truck-tractor hauling two side-dump trailers ran into a 12-car Amtrak passenger train at a crossing in the Nevada desert, killing six people, including the truck driver.

One year ago: A federal judge in Boston formally sentenced Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR' tsahr-NEYE'-ehv) to death for the 2013 terror attacks. Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley became the first southern governor to use his executive power to remove Confederate banners, as four flags with secessionist symbols were taken down from a large monument to rebel soldiers outside the state capitol in Montgomery. Pavin Smith homered and drove in three runs and Brandon Waddell turned in another strong College World Series pitching performance, leading Virginia over Vanderbilt 4-2 for the school's first baseball national championship.

that was always the next type of pipe I was going to get. but 35 some odd years ago, I told the ex-wife to be(before we were married), that i would stop smoking my pipes, if she quit smoking cigarettes.
She told me "of course!" - the bitch lied.   I think I had about a dozen pipes, some nice jarl pipes, and a meerschaum lined briars, even a couple of "the pipes" (pyrolytic grahite liners), you could smoke it all day, unlike a briar which needs a rest.   Good morning boys, i think I sent some of these to botl in trades)

DOW is -389 which is not really as bad as it sounds since the traders ran it up 220 points yesterday.
It's those damn Brits!  Not that I blame them one bit.  Texas is next.  We did it once, we can do it again.
Indeed!   For once the Brits did the smart thing.
Course, it's beating up on our stock market.

Morning, muchachos. Three hours and thirty minutes and I'm sayonara from the office. Gotta stop and pick up some ammo for my dad and some bolts for the motorcycle, and then I might be able to make it to the Consortium for a cigar.
And I was waiting for some stock I have to go up just $.15 more cents so I could sell it, and it reversed...  errrr...!!!

Morning Golf, how is your Dad doing?
Better. Went home yesterday, seemed to be in good enough spirits. Hope to head out there this evening. My sister came into town, so she's over there helping now. Thanks for asking.
I hope your father is doing ok too...!

Lol, no, though, it was only about an hour after the parade and rally ended. I told him that it would almost figure he's been waiting this long for a championship that he would die immediately after we celebrate one.

One of my system maintenance tasks last night was to support deployment of fee increases for certain credentials the state issues.  Four credentials had fee increases.  Two of those were for Animal Massage.  We issue licenses for small animal massage practitioners and large animal massage practitioners.  SMGH

And you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction?

Great deal at CI on MCII PCs
Weren't they $99+free scissor a couple weeks back??
Yes, now $89.99
Okay. I see the Summer Kickoff has that price. If you just search master collection and go that route, it shows $129... thus, my confusion. I think I'll go for the $89 instead. #F'knIT :o

That gondola idea was floated a couple years ago as an east-west mass transport system between Round Rock and Cedar Park.  If you look into it there are actually a lot of pros, especially considering the alternatives.  Too slow long distances, but I'd ride it to the airport. http://www.texaswatchdog.org/2013/02/gondolas-a-public-transportation-transit-alternative-round-rock-texas/1361304180.story (http://www.texaswatchdog.org/2013/02/gondolas-a-public-transportation-transit-alternative-round-rock-texas/1361304180.story)
